There is no such thing as coincidence - at least, not according to Skye. It wasn't a coincidence that her father died seven hours after she broke a mirror, and it isn't a coincidence that her imaginary friend is reappearing now that she meets Drew - the mysterious boy with a dark past, one that is somehow connected to her.

Lambs for Dinner is an enjoyable read in general. Despite some dialogues leaving me confused and certain links choppy, it was a pretty straightforward book that I didn't have to put too much thought into, especially after a long day at work.
The feelings between Drew and Skye escalated too quickly for my liking to believe that they'd do so much for each other. Other than that, I could relate to most of the characters - how their pasts and beliefs affected the way they saw themselves and managed t ...more

I think the characters could be fleshed out more and the relationship development paced a little better. The premise was quite interesting though I still can't wrap my head around the concept of Steppenwolf, especially because the first few Google Search results were of a Marvel super villain.

The idea first stemmed from Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse, which I read in my sophomore year in university. What started out as a quiet little story grew into an obsession, and I completed the first draft in under a month.
I had a blast writing this. And for that, I love this book for all the memories it gave me.
It's not perfect - I find more and more areas I can improve on with each reread - but it's my debut novel. And you never quite get over your first love.

It hooked me and compelled me to read on and on to see what's going on and what's going to happen next. The writer's done a great job getting under the skin of the characters to convey their conflict and insecurity. A good read.

Lambs for Dinner is a YA romance about Skye, your typical moody teenaged girl who is chronically superstitious, and Drew, the mysterious - I'm trying to find a nice way to talk about these characters, but you know what? Fuck that. I hate these characters. I hate this story. And most of all, I hate myself for putting myself through this.
Full disclosure: I know that I'm probably not the target audience for this book (then again, who is?!?! No self-respecting reader should put himself or herself th ...more

I gave this book 2 stars, but it's more of a 1.5 stars for me. This novel should probably have dwelled longer in the editing/development stage because it feels like it's not far from a first draft and hastily published. I'll give some reasons why: 1. This is a romance YA, but the main romance is really boring, as if it's only there because it's there. For the plot. Drew and Skye meet, he immediately gets into a fight, and he's either fighting or wanting to kill someone or saving someone 75% of t

Skye, an 18yo girl who’s recently lost her father, meets Drew, a troubled teen. This book explores themes of grief and loss, and touches on mental health issues.
Joyce’s writing shows immense potential - it’s smooth and the dialogue can be snappy - but the transitions and plot could have been improved on. Given that the author wrote this 7 years ago, and even won an award for it, I have high hopes for her next book.

I have to say I am totally baffled by this book, especially for a YA one.
If the plot hinges all on the concept of Steppenwolf, then it is extremely bad because the location is obviously some imaginary place and I wonder if that world even knows Steppenwolf?
The sense of place/point of references is disjointed.
The author's voice isn't consistent and the quality of the dialogue is stilted.
