Star Trek: Day of Blood—Shaxs' Best Day

Rate this book
You’ve seen Captains Benjamin Sisko and Worf with their crews of the U.S.S. Theseus and Defiant stop the fascist, god-killing clone Kahless II from declaring war on non-followers across the galaxy in a brutal battle on Qo’noS. But you haven’t seen it from the eyes of the man, the myth, the legend, Lieutenant Junior Grade Shaxs! From the writer behind the best-selling Lower Decks comics series, Ryan North, with esteemed artist Derek Charm (Jughead and Marvel’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl), comes a 30-page standalone tie-in to the Star Day of Blood event (Star Trek FCBD 2023, Day of Blood #1, Star Trek #11 and 12, and Defiant #6 and 7) detailing the Bajoran’s beast-mode brawl and showcasing all the behind-the-scenes Klingon-zealot butt-kicking in full animated glory!

Hi, I'm Ryan! I was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1980 and since then have written several books. You can read my Wikipedia page for more, or check out my author site at RyanNorth.ca!

I'm the author of the webcomic Dinosaur Comics (that's the comic where the pictures don't change but the words do, it's better than it sounds and I've also done crazy things like turn Shakespeare into a choose-your-own-path adventure, write a comic for Marvel about a girl with all the powers of a squirrel, or mess up walking my dog so badly it made the news.

I'm working on more stuff as we speak, hopefully it's good

Star Trek: Day of Blood- Shaxs’ Best Day was ok, but not my favorite. I requested this one since I enjoyed Lower Decks vol. 1 and it was easy to get into without previously watching the show. I don’t know Shaxs’ character well and I feel like for this graphic novel I was missing something. The artwork was great and it was fun seeing characters I knew like Worf but I just couldn’t get into the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for the E-Arc.

Am I padding my book count with things that might not traditionally be considered a book to catch up on my annual reading goal? Yes.

Was this an excellent & very fun read? Also yes.

Ryan North's Lower Decks tie-ins continue to capture the exact spirit and tone of the TV show.

I received an advanced copy of this comic for review purposes. All opinions are my own. Thanks to IDW for the arc!

I always wished we got more Shaxs in Lower Decks, and this comic was entirely Shaxs comic relief. We get both his best and worst days, both of which involve fascists? It's nice to see that at least someone involved in writing Star Trek content hasn't completely lost the plot of Star Trek (glares at SNW). This was a lot of fun, def recommend to ST fans and fans who miss Lower Decks!

I didn't read the rest of the Day of Blood crossover event series because . . . it's just so hard to keep track of such things.

BUT! As I've previously established, I will read any ST:LD comic that Ryan North writes! This was great despite not really knowing what is going on. I wish we all hated fascism as much as Shaxs does.

Also, I loved to see the L.S.S. Chomsky.

RIP Chomsky.

Love Lower Decks

Great to see Shaxs kicking butt and taking names. Loved the asides from the authors. Art was great. You don't have read the other "Day of Blood" books.

Some light hearted violent bit of fun.
Violence level about of what you expect of a Wolverine comic.

Hilarious! Tonally, more aligned to the Lower Decks series than the Lower Decks comics. Some genuinely amusing moments. As a one shot, it’s a blindingly fast read.

This was a fun one-shot from the Star Trek Defiant series. I loved that they meshed in characters from Star Trek Lower Decks and kept the comedy that drives that animated series. Awesome Job!

2024 Eisner Award finalist - Best Single Issue/One-Shot

This lighthearted ultra-violent standalone one-shot tie-in to the Star Trek: Day of Blood mini-series is a lot of fun.
