Sadly out of print now, this is a social history of Britain in the 18th century, looking at politics, the economy and what made people tick. It's an account of the doers and thinkers of the period, and the inclusion of photographs and pictures helps to illustrate the points very well. My only complaint is that I'd already read Black's THE POLITICS OF BRITAIN 1688-1800 and more often than not he repeats the same points - sometimes verbatim! Still a good read, though, and invaluable.
