I am assuming you should be able to read it without having read the first. However, to get a better understanding of Sid, who makes many appearances in the first book, reading the first would be helpful. As far as it involving cheating, without spoiling the whole book, I don't think it would be considered cheating. Beth is a good girl with good morals. The book is good, and really conveys a good message about doing what makes you happy and not living to please others.

I do want you to know, if you chose to read this far, that in the end, nobody is hurt, physically or emotionally, by the choices made by the main characters!(less)

In the fair Outer Banks where its people give thanks,
For small Anchor Island, their home,
Lived a strapping, young lad who grew up and was glad
To leave behind the island and roam.

It's officially official...I stumbled across a favorite author purely by accident. This is my second Terri Osburn novel. Her debut, Meant to Be, blew me away. After reading this second installment in the Anchor Island series, my mind is made up. I'm in love with Terri Osburn. She writes what I want to read.

Anchor Island, (actually Ocracoke Island), which is the place Terri acknowledges as her inspiration:

Sid is a boat mechanic on Anchor Island. She's not an island lifer, but loves it like she's

”You turn on the charm and that man doesn’t stand a chance. Remember, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.” With a wicked grin she added, “You might as well be under him when he does.

I’ll start off by saying after reading this book, along with the equally strong Meant to Be, I’m ready to pack my bags and move to the Anchor Island. Hush, I know this particular Anchor Island is fictional, but a girl can dream! Boat mechanic and all around tomboy Sid Na

when this author managed to win me over with the first book storyline I knew I would like this one, especially as heroine is someone I would be friends with... this was a perfect opposite attract romance centered around a charming small town!! enjoyed it...

side note; our hero apparently doesn't remember anyone he went to school with..okay one or two person but almost everyone you vent to school with..& his prom date..come on!! and it hasn't been that long ago...Lucas boo are you having any brai

Everytime he saw her, she was either snarling at someone, or covered in grease and cursing a blue streak. She had to be the least ladylike chick he’d ever met.

Sid and Lucas are a case of opposite attracts. Lucas is back on Anchor Island to help out at the family bar and restaurant as his Dad suffered a heart attack. Lucas had always want to leave the island and never live there again. He was a Lawyer in Richmond and apart from the glitch where his fiancée left him for his brother, his life i

4,5 Romantically Mouthy Stars

Back to quaint and cosy Anchor Island with book 2 in the series, this time is Lucas Dempsey and Sid Navarro's turn to take central stage, the careerist lawyer and the gutsy boat mechanic, for a prime example of the "opposites attract" kind of romance.

It's an emergency bringing Lucas again to the place where he grew up in, the confining island of his teens he left right after finishing high-school to pursue his ambitions. Nothing could have dragged him there for m

4.5 Happy Stars!!

Up To The Challenge is the second installment in Terri Osburn’s Anchor Island series and I LOVED IT!!

I’ve been anxious for this book since meeting both Lucas and Sidney (Sid) in the first book, Meant to Be. As much as I enjoyed the first story, this is now my favorite. Once again, the author has produced a well written, engaging romance with many laugh-out- loud moments. My only quibble would be the ending was somewhat rushed, otherwise, this would be a full 5 star read.

Recommends it for: you...yep, I'm recommending it to you.
Sid Navarro is Anchor Island's smart-mouthed boat mechanic. She has been in love with Lucas Dempsey since high school, but Lucas always had his sights set on bigger and better things and as soon as he finished school he left the island.

After his father suffers a heart attack, Lucas returns to the island to look after the family business. He's thrown together with Sid and sparks immediately fly, but the women in his world are quiet, reserved...pastels, and Sid is anything but. She's brash and in

*****5 AMAZING STARS*****

This is the 2nd book in "The Anchor Island" series but I didn't read the 1st. I wish I had but it isn't necessary in order to understand .

Up to the Challengecan be read as a "stand-alone" or as the series. This book delves into the relationship between Lucas and Sid.

Lucas is a high profile lawyer in Richmond and is called home after his father suffers a heart-attack. He is just coming down off of a bad break-u

Terri Osburn was my discovery with her first book, she had a great voice and an author who can make me fall in love with a character who is engaged to one brother and falls for another is definitely one to watch out for.

This is the book about the jilted brother Lucas, the one who left the island and wants to become a partner in his law firm. Well six weeks after his fiancee chose his brother over him, he is back in town because his father is in the hospital and that means he has to stay back and

Better than the first, but then, Sidney has so much more personality than Beth ever did. Lucas, too, is light-years ahead of his brother, Joe.

With a better romance, better story, and the rest holding even, you'd think this would jump a star on its predecessor, but I just didn't feel it. I think it followed the standard romance script a little too closely. This is nowhere more evident than with Lucas. He pulled some really clueless blunders and remained way too committed to his crap mainland job

**** 4.5 GET-ME-A-PLANE-TICKET-NOW STARS!! ****

The second installment in the Anchor Island series proves once again that a new author can weave magic with the best of them. Up to the Challenge was beautiful. It was so well written and captured that atmosphere of living on such a tucked away piece of heaven that it's forerunner, Meant to Be--one of my all time favourites--did.

This time around we get Lucas and Sid's story. Lucas is still trying to come to terms with his ex-fiancee, Beth, leaving h

This review is posted on Way Too Hot Books.

I didn't read anything by Terry Osburn until this book, so I had no expectations when I started reading it. What dragged my attention at first was the pretty & romantic cover and the premise with a promise of a fun, easy and romantic story and I was in desperate need for one of those after a couple of heavy reads. I was already a few pages into the story when I realized that this book is a part

This book had me torn. I liked the story. Girl had crush on guy since high school but he never noticed until now when he comes home to help the family out during a crisis. What I didn't like was everyone seem to blame the guy for everything. No one else took responsibility for any of their wrong doings. From Lucas being a bit bitter that his fiance left him for his brother. To his ever having left the island for a life elsewhere to his relationship with Sid.

Lucas came home to help run the family

I can't find the words to describe how much I enjoyed this book.

Loved the characters, both Sid and Lucas won me over from the beginning actually, I loved Sid from the first book Meant to Be. She has this tough front going on and heaven help anyone think they can tell her she can't do something.

It took me a little longer to warm up to Lucas, if you've read Meant to Be you'll know what I'm talking about. He comes across as though he is better than most.

Such a great romance!! I am so lucky to have been given the opportunity to read and review this book. Once again I was taken completely away to Anchor Island. I am just so in love with the setting for this series. As I said in my review of Meant to Be I love Ocracoke and knowing that Terri Osburn is using that as her reference for Anchor just takes me away on my own mini vacation while reading. This was a great second install

It was amazing!!!

I can't even tell you how much I love the female character Sid. (Why does her name conjure up images of a hairy uncle? Don't worry she is far from it.)

She was just all of that and a bag of chips. Hilarious. Ridiculous. And a balls-out bad ass. Plus, it was an unrequited love story.

This is why I read through all the mediocre stuff. To get to the needle in the haystack.

Wow, so glad I decided to read this series. Up to the Challenge is even better than Meant to Be. I just love, love Sid!!!! What a fantastic character. Really enjoyed Lucas as well, and of course, revisiting the characters from the first book. I can't wait to read Home to Stay, the last book in this series. Ms. Osburn is truly a gifted author. We first met Lucas Dempsey in Meant to Be, the first book in the Anchor Island Series. Initially, in that book, Lucas seemed to be a selfish, money-hungry, power-driven guy. But Lucas is a man who sacrificed his own happiness for that of his brother Joe and former fiancée, Beth. He's lost and is always looking for something better because he doesn't think he's good enough for his family. After losing his edge in the courtroom, Lucas’ law firm force

Despite having the body of a centerfold, Sidney prefers to dress like a twelve-year-old boy. It’s deceptive not only for what she covers up – those curves! – but also because it implies that she’s childish or weak willed. Sid Navarro is anything but. She’s tough, almost to a fault. But she when she cares, she cares deeply.

So when the Dempsey patriarch and owner of Anchor Island’s finest family restaurant takes ill, Sid offers to help. Also offering is Lucas Dempsey, the erstwhile black sheep of

Every once in awhile, you get to read a book that starts out as simple enough. But then ends up tugging at your heartstrings, becoming one of your most memorable reads. Up to the Challenge was that for me. It was funny and charming, hilarious and heartwarming. The main leads, Sid and Lucas, made you laugh and cry, because these are characters that seem all too real with their problems, dreams and life choices. Sid tries to hide her inner and outer beauty from all by putting a -don't mess with me-attitude and potty mouth as a front. When in reality she's this great, loving, caring (don't tell her I said that, she might hit me!) heroine you'll discover as she takes the chance to get closer to her long time crush, Lucas. I loved the book!! Especially the characters!!

From the first chapter, I got hooked. With Lucas's vulnerability about losing his ex fiancé to his brother, to Sid's childhood crush with Lucas and her sass. I just loved them both from the start. So, what's a tomboy got to do to make the man of her dreams look at her?? 1. Ask her girlfriends how to deal with it 2. dress up and get him to notice you. It was such a cute and fun read.

Although, I have some issues,i just didn't like the ending. I felt it

4.5 stars. After yet another awesome read, Terri Osburn is now on my list of auto-buy authors. I wasn't sure I could warm up to Lucas after he was so aloof in Meant to Be, but Ms Osburn had me falling in love with his starchy personality in no time. Watching Lucas and Sidney reveal their "hidden" qualities to one another was both endearing and comical. I have to admit I felt bereft at the end of the book - I wanted more time with the happy and in love Lucas and Sid. But I have every faith that M ...more

Bestselling and award winning author Terri Osburn writes contemporary romance with heart, hope, and lots of humor.
