Bill Richardson launched his campaign for the presidency to remind the American people--and their representatives in Washington--that we know how to get things done. We need to end our dependence on oil, and we need to do it yesterday.
This isn't something that's going to happen only in Washington, or Detroit, or even Hollywood or Tokyo. It's going to take all of us, a united United States. We have the opportunity, perhaps for only a few years, to make dramatic but beneficial changes in the way we run America.
As Leading by Example makes clear, if we succeed, with strong presidential leadership and the support of the American people, we will restore America's role in the world--a source of moral leadership, a source of astonishing technology, and a source of optimism to be admired.
William Blaine "Bill" Richardson III is an American politician who was 30th Governor of New Mexico, from 2003 to 2011. He was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Energy Secretary in the Clinton administration and has also served as a U.S. Congressman, chairman of the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.
Although I did not agree with everything in Bill Richardson’s book, he did have some good ideas for energy efficiency and decreasing our carbon emissions. He offered quite a few realistic plans that could have been presented to Congress in the form of a bill, which really showed me that he did have some substance (especially since he is a former Secretary of Energy). The majority of his ideas could ostensibly be passed with a majority vote from a Democratic congress, but not very likely in a Republican majority congress. Although it would cost the tax payers more in the short-run, but in the long-run we (and the environment) would benefit quite nicely.
