My oh my, why do we have to do this?

Di & Ri never had a deep, profound love for Dora, but they enjoyed the show enough to single out a few Dora books at the used bookstore. And when they ask for a used book, I never have the heart to say no, of course, so here we are.

The girls are quite taken with anything medical-related for starters, so this little volume has been well, well read in our house. We had that for many years, back when I had Adi convinced that I could only read in French, so I am a bit of an expert in ad lib translation, and this one seemed extremely easy to translate. The stories here are harmless and simple enough, Dora goes to the dentist/doctor, every single person is smiling and appear extremely pleased with their life, oh, Dora, you got a cavity, so much fun! We did it!

By the way, there should be more Spanish in these books, one line every ten pages doesn't do much!

So one of the Dora books we own is Dora Goes to the Dentist. This version is an almost word-for-word rip-off of our book. Seriously - Mini-Me pulled it out and I was comparing the two books as I read.

The main difference is that the dentist is a woman in our book, and a man in this one. Maybe to give some gender balance, since the doctor in the flip side is a woman? On the other hand, I can't see a problem with having both medical professionals being female - it's not like there is a dearth of male medical role models out there.

Either way, good basic introductions to the experience of visiting the doctor or dentist.

My daughter loves this book. Even at 3 years old, she understands that because Dora is okay and comfortable with going to the doctor and dentist, there is nothing for her to be afraid of.

I would definitely recommend this book to parents of children who are uneasy with medical professionals.
