The only thing worse than being a Hunter in the fae-ridden city of Harborsmouth, is hunting vamps in Bruges.

Being shipped off to Belgium sucks. The medieval city of Bruges is quaint, but the local Hunters' Guild is understaffed, the canals are choked with dead bodies, and there's no shortage of supernatural predators as likely suspects.

On second thought, maybe Bruges isn't

For those of you that read, the Ivy Granger Psychic Detective books, this could be your next must read book. This was my first book by this author, and as soon as I finished, I bought the first book in the Ivy Granger series, Shadow Sight. Why? Because I could not put this book down. I flat out loved it!

When a book(uncorrected copy) starts with the sentence “I’ve been seeing ghosts for as long as I can remember”, I am so in for the read. Jenna Lehane is an American Hunter for the supernatural Hu

If I could’ve had my way, I would’ve read this book from start to finish in one sitting. I was hooked the moment I started reading. It’s a fast paced story told from the point of view of Jenna Lehane, the main character. Jenna is a member of the Hunters’ Guild. The Guild is secret organization whose mission is to keep the supernatural world in check and coexisting as peacefully as possible with the human world. Jenna, a Hunter, has been sent to the Belgian chapter in Bruges to help figure out wh ...more

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock. Just finished Hunting in Bruges by E.J Stevens and author I honestly never heard before but after this I have to say that I will definitely be reading more from him. The book got me after the first sentence by saying she has seen ghost all her life; just by that I wanted to know what what's going on right away. We have Jenna Lehane a hunter that gets a new assignment and has to travel from America to Bruges B ...more

This was a great start to a new series.
It took a moment to get going for me, but then the adventure, danger and excitement took over. It didn't stop for the whole book either. Which I loved. Even at the very end, there are things that are closed and yet open for th enext book as well.
I really loved how this series connects with the Ivy Granger series. The familiarity helped me relax easier into the story.
The characters in this one were neat. Ash, I like him. I had no idea Ash's story until it wa

*Please note: I have read every book in the Ivy Granger series and my reviews can be found on Goodreads and Amazon.

Jenna Lehane became a hunter at the age of 13 after the Hunters' Guild recruited her from her foster home. She is able so see, hear, and communicate with ghosts of the departed. Originally part of the Guild in Harborsmouth and lending the occasional aid to Ivy Granger, Jenna finds herself transferred to Europe.

Ivy and Jenna's friend Jinx was abused by a Hunter in one of the previous

So, if you read the Ivy Granger series, which I fanatically love, you'll know who Jenna is, at least a little bit. And you'll know that in the last book, Jenna was missing from the action. Well, now we know where the hell she's been! I love that we have this spin off, because I love the world EJ created with Ivy's series, and now, we are just adding to the cool factors! So, Jenna is part of the Hunter's Guild. She hunts down the evil baddies of the world to keep the humans safe. She is also a se ...more

Hunting in Bruges is the story of a girl trying to prove herself in the midst of warding off the supernatural evils that plague the world. A supernatural mystery with unconventionally charming characters. The story is compelling, attracting readers in instantaneously, however world building and time spent bringing the city of Bruges to life creates cracks in the plot that stall the ease of the narrative making it difficult to stay focused at times.

Jenna Lehane is a part of the Hunger’s Guild, an

I’ve been a fan of this author’s Ivy Granger series, and finding a new urban fantasy with a new city was hard to pass up. From the wonderful world-building of Harborsmouth, Stevens takes time and care to introduce readers to the sights, sounds and feel of the ancient city of Bruges in Belgium. Old buildings, twisty streets and the overwhelming sense of years and memories that reside within, Hunting in Bruges presents the city in a near-visceral way that will feed your imagination as it has you c ...more

Despite owning all of E.Js books, I've never managed to read them. Well if Hunting in Bruges is anything to go by then I'm going to have to get reading the rest. I absolutely loved this book!!

Jenna is an awesome character. She kicks ass and takes no names. She has been in the Guild since she was 13 and loves her work but when she is sent on an assignment to Bruges, she thinks its as a punishment. She doesn't like leaving Harborsmouth because bad things seem to be happening there but she has no

I received Hunting in Bruges in return for an honest review from the author. Hunting in Bruges is a spin off series from Ivy Granger. Jenna has been sent from Harborsmouth to Bruges because of the influx of bodies found floating in the canals. Upon arriving in Bruges Jenna makes an unlikely friend in Ash but he’s hiding a secret that could change everything. When she arrives at the guild she learns that its short staffed with only a few who aren’t in peak hunting form like herself. The guild wit ...more

Witty and action-packed, Hunting In Bruges follows twenty-year-old Jenna Lehane as she hunts for whatever’s been killing tourists in the historic Belgian city of Bruges. Part of the Hunters’ Guild, it is Jenna’s sworn duty to protect humans from supernatural monsters – a duty she takes very seriously. Jenna is joined by a mysterious and flirty stranger with a garish sense of style and some rather unconventional guild mates – an addict witch, a blind archivist, and a one-armed demolition expert w ...more

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What do you get when a professional supernatural hunter, representing the Hunter's Guild, is thrown into a dainty old town that has tourists' corpses strewn across its canals? You get a pacy and gripping thriller, and that's exactly what Stevens has churned out with this one. Jenna is a hunter who is assigned the task of delving into the mystery of why tourists are being brutally murdered in Bruges. She finds an unl

Jenna is a member of the Hunters’ Guild. She hunts the evil supes. She’s on a personal mission to take out vampires because they killed her parents. Jenna is a confidant hunter that is sure of herself. I love that she’s a confidant woman and can take care of herself. I also love that she’s not willing to take anyone’s crap but is also compassionate to those around her. She tries to help others.

A creepy, oppressive atmosphere prevails throughout the entire book. This gothic malevolence was the perfect backdrop for Jenna’s exploits; traversing the city of Bruges attempting to find out who or what is carrying out an escalating killing spree. To make matters worse, the local Hunters’ Guild takes extraordinary measures to let Jenna know her presence is intrusive and unwelcome. With only the help of a single, oddly attired fellow who seems to make sudden appearances and disappearances, Jenn ...more

Overall, I liked Hunting in Bruges. It's well written and the historical detail and accuracy were a bonus in an urban fantasy. The description of Bruges was also excellent. The action scenes were laid out well, making me edgy waiting on what would happen, and cringe when it did. I just think I would have enjoyed it more had it not been predictable - I figured out the mysteries right off the bat - and had Jenna not been a Mary Sue. However, I liked her despite that and I liked the supporting cast ...more

I found this to be primarily about paranormal fighting action in an awesome location, Bruges. The different historical bits and descriptions of sights in town are what caught my interest the most.

Jenna is definitely one to add to my list of kick-ass fiction heroines.

If you like the Ivy Granger series, then you will like this one too as it takes you into another aspect and perspective of that paranormal world.

Upset that she has been transferred to Bruges, once she gets there, Jenna changes her mind. Fast. Trying to find the mystery of why the vampires are leaving bodies all over the city and keep herself safe.

This was a fun and interesting read. It's not long at all, under 200 pages. Jenna is a kickass heroine and Ash, her friend /possible boyfriend helps her find balance in this new place she finds herself in when she takes her transfer as a punishment. A great start to a new series!

First off the me start of by saying, "Do NOT judge this book by its cover!" I am not a fan of the cover, but I am completely a fan of this story! I’ve read a lot of books about female supernatural hunters. I am for books of this nature. This book is full of action, deaths, supernatural creatures, and is perfect for the adult urban fantasy fan, and I for one, can NOT wait for the next installment. The

Initially Jenna is bummed by the decision to send her away and she thinks that she has done something wrong to provoke this quick transfer. However, once she gets to Bruges, a city with a historic and morbid history, she realizes that bummed or not, if she doesn't figure out who this stranger is, why the ghosts are frightened, and why all the swan maidens skipped town there is a good chance that she may not be leaving Bruges in one piece.

DNF at 34%

I don't usually give a rating for DNF, but in this case it will serve as something of a warning label, I hope.

I'm also not usually intentionally harsh in reviews - but in this case I'm pretty sure there's no nice or tactful way to say any of it.
Writing: sloppy and juvenile
Characters: one dimensional, epically stupid, and immature
Premise: worthwhile but insufficient to carry the story
World-building: none (unless you count repeated and repetitive references to the protagonist's foster-

Well that was MEH
I suspect this spin off will meet in the middle with Ivy's story for the big war scene or maybe it'll be two halves of the same war. Ivy in the states & Jenna in Europe. For that reasonI'll follow the spinoff series into book 2 & make my final determination at that time. BTW I hate this cover. Over all Boring
I found the Ash situation a little Anna Dressed in Blood like, the plot was simplistic & the mystery was easily solved. I'm not a fan of any of the new character

I have to admit that I couldn't finish this book, I only got about 100 pages in before I couldn't take it anymore. It could have gotten better after that and ended as an ok book (though there is no way it ever got good). For me the main character was not only cliched but she was arrogant when she had no reason to be. The first real mission she went on she'd have been dead, so there would never have been this story. My other main objection was with the guild. Any big organization that was this dy ...more

Entertaining enough, although I didn't much like our protagonist; brash, bombastic and also a bit dim. I saw "the twist" a mile off. I'd read the next book in the series, but it's not out yet. Or at least, not on Kobo!
