Rebecca Roland is a master storyteller. She has quite a range from light hearted to sublime, from science fiction to contemporary fantasy to high fantasy and beyond. Her stories and novel, SHARDS OF HISTORY, have stayed with me long after reading them, playing like mental movies in my mind. Her stories are so original, so inventive, so emotionally moving, so intelligent, and so satisfying. She's definitely a writer's writer, yet her style is accessible and down to earth.

Sidenote: One of the short stories in this book is part of a longer novel -- Shards of History.

The King of Ashes and Bones is hands-down, one of the best collection of short stories I have ever read. I must admit, I already had a love-love relationship with Rebecca Roland after reading Shards of History, but this work just cements everything for me.

Eerie and enthralling. + Loved the chance to hear more of Rasmus's story -- he was a great secondary character in Shards of History and now some of his mystery has been unraveled!
