Bottomore's book surprised me for its didactics. It's a great book to be used in a Political Sociology course, both for undergrad and master students. It deals mostly with classic sociology, and I was a bit disappointed by this. I was looking for something a bit more applied, or even broader, that could cover some current research topics that fall under the political sociology umbrella. By its chapter, though, the books enterprise is clear: the focus is on central topics in political science (and it felt more so than a sociology book sometimes).
