★★☆ 2.5 Stars!

I'm not saying this was a bad read, but it just wasn't for me...

Insta-attraction/love/lust + soap opera storyline + overly dramatic heroine = not the best combination to make an excellent read.

To be honest, I really liked the story when it first started. The prologue was heart wrenching and I felt really bad for all the loss Brooke had to go through. I was interested to find out how she would pick up her life after such dramatic events and I could tell that there was much more dra

Tragedy doesn’t stop the world. Just my world.

How could your whole life change just like that??? Your future flushed down the drain, forcing you to leave the only home you ever imagined and seek refuge miles and miles away from home. Brooke, a gifted pianist, who was once a top contender at Julliard, seeks seclusion in Alaska, where she hopes to bury her past and start anew. But who would’ve ever though that you could find peace after so much loss??? Brooke is about to find out and

“I fight with myself, the contrary emotions warring with each other. I’m not at peace. Yet…I want joy. Even if it is dark, I yearn for it. The darkest joy is better than none at all. Imperfect, vital…it comes like a thief in the night and robs your heart of its energy to resist the love that has been offered.”

My thoughts: I have to be completely honest, I loved the book when it first started but as it progressed the plot and characters fell off the deep end. I mean, aside from the unrealisti

Brooke Starr is a piano prodigy. On her way home for Christmas break from her sophomore year at college, she gets a phone call from her mother...a phone call that will tragically change her life forever.

Chance Taylor is a halibut fisherman in need of a part time summer deck crew. He highers Brooke Starr sight unseen never knowing how much he is going to want to put a smile on her sad face.

In the blink of an eye, the cruel hand of a murderer has left piano prodigy Brook Starr utterly alone, her family dead and her will to live sorely tested. On impulse, twenty-year-old Brooke abandons her life and her music and flees to her late, Great-Aunt’s run-down cabin in a fishing village in Alaska, riddled with survivor’s guilt and vacillating between ending her own life and starting a new one, far removed from the memories and the future that will never be that haunts her. I received The Darkest Joy ARC in exchange for an honest review.
In my honest and humble opinion.... It was FREAKIN AWESOME!!!! Seriously, it was so dang good! So, my problem is: how to write a review and do the book the justice it deserves??!! So, I'll just write the way I always do, I'm sure you'll get the gist!

4- Gut wrenching stars! A lot happens in the first 30% of this book. The bottom literally drops out of Brooke's life. She loses everything and then gives herself a new life although temporary, in Alaska. I loved the Alaskan backdrop to this story as the it is almost character in the story. Brooke's tragedy becomes to much for her and she finds herself saved by Chance. (yes, play on words at the same time). There were several times throughout the story where there was a play on words with Chance' ...more

It was love at first sight when I first saw the pretty cover and read the intriguing title, but then, soon enough, with every next page everything fell apart.

My Review:
This is one of those books. It's started out so well and had such an amazing premise, but it just didn't quite live up to its promise. That didn't make it a bad book...although there were areas where it could have been improved so that it would have been spectacular. Overall, I definitely enjoyed reading it. But the promise for loving it was there.... and it made me sad that it just didn't quite pan out for me.

My Rant: The Darkest Joy was a suspenseful and emotional journey. From the beginning you are hit with the horrors of Brooke's life and as you watch her drown in her emotion of loss, you feel he need to see her troubles through. Brooke is broken and the pieces that fell from the puzzle cannot be replaced. Affected by her misery Brooke moves to a small town where the people that live in that town are friendly and full with life. This new found town should be a good thing for Brooke but the pain bu

I'm sad to say it, but either this book had a really rushed editing job, or the wrong file got uploaded to the printer. It's that awkward.

It wasn't even a proofreading issue. There were just whole sentences littered throughout the book that I had to read and re-read, often several times, because they simply didn't make sense. It happened just often enough that I began to think MAYBE this was just the author's writing style, but I just can't envision the editorial team at Simon&Schuster not l

I really wanted to like this one. It sounded so great—a Julliard candidate whose family is murdered runs off to Alaska to find herself again—only the killer won’t let her get away. It’s a great concept, and I love romantic suspense novels. However, this one was not done well. The writing s

A different take on the New Adult genre.

OMG I love Marata Eros this tale is delicious and fishy, Marata Eros tries to sway you from figuring out who the killer is while expertly giving you an awesome ride on the romance wheel.

Brooke is devastated and heart sore from the murder of her family and in return goes to Alaska to disappear, her emotions through the beginning to middle of the story are understandable and you go on the wavy rolling ride of despair, anger and grief. Marata Eros' depictions

This was a good combination of mystery/suspense and romance. Brooke is living a full, happy life. She is an extremely talented pianist, preparing for Juilliard with a loving family supporting her. Falling into darkness she runs away from what remains of her life and heads to Alaska to the property that her Great Aunt left her. Now all she has to do is take a Chance!

The Darkest Joy combines an edge of your seat thriller with an electrifying romance alongside outstanding character development.

I always say tragedy shapes you as a person more than anything else in your life. Brooke and Chance are the unfortunate definition of this. I am going to lay it out there for you right up front – this book is somewhat dark and it is loaded with intense feelings of despair and sadness. If you deeply feel for the characters in a book, be prepared for this one. Brooke is a broken woman and you follow her through her despair and her healing. This is a poignant book that leaves you feeling happy, sad and as shell-shocked as the main character does in parts of this story.
