The Beginning is an absolutely fantastic book! It's incredibly well structured and well written and enthrals the reader from start to finish! You get caught up in the story line and the characters have real voice. You won't be able to put it down, it's a spellbinding read!

Recommends it for: everyone and anyone!
Sophie May Wilkinson is one of the most talented authors whom I have had the privilege to read books by, which is amazing considering this is her first book and she is only 17 years of age! The Beginning is one of the most riveting books I have read, constantly keeping my attention - I literally was unable to put it down!
I wasn't alive in 1942 England during the war, but Sophie May Wilkinson made me feel as if I was! The Beginning is set from the perspective of Dorothy Braithwaite, a 15 year old

'ello, i'm Sophie- May Wilkinson and I grow Cacti because you just CAN'T go wrong with Cacti. I'm a crazy cacti cuddler! I'd happily make the whole bio about how much I love cacti but i dont to bore anyone.
I love pigeons- I speak fluent 'coo.'
I also love tea- It fixes EVERYTHING.
I'm a bad speller.
I'm a veggie, i'd rather eat my cacti than an cow- might hurt tho.
I'm OBSESSED with bows, llamas,

“I’m sorry. Let me help you with those.” I stood up quickly
and began to pick up the books she was carrying; she just sat
there rubbing her head.
“Are you okay?” I asked worriedly. I really hoped I didn’t give
her a concussion; believe me, not the first time.”

“We walked over to the soldiers and tried to act natural. Well,
as natural as we can act after a ride like that.
“Hey, what’s up?” Fran shouted.
I looked at her in despair. The guys just looked at us

“What my friend meant was ‘Hello, how are you.’” They all
just gave me a weary look.
I had to think of a quick line. “She’s Scottish,” I whispered.”
