Boring as batshit. Also, I either hated or didn't care about any of the characters. Like CASTLE OF CRUSHED SHAMROCKS, this book offers an unusual gothic setting with an intriguing premise, but Karr's writing style sucks all life from the story. Literally everything that happened in the conclusion was predicable by chapter 3. Bonus: the heroine was such a holier-than-thou judgmental moron that I couldn't stand to read about her bullshit. On the lighter side of Gothic Zebra fare...the first half felt a bit like a cross between something YA and a cozy historical mystery...it really reminded me a lot of the Sunfire Historical Romance series from the late 1980s.
