This Christmas Olivia Wishart is determined to throw off the shackles of her past and have fun. And nothing says fun like a glamorous Christmas party! So, wearing a brand-new red dress and some seriously high stilettos, nervously clutching a glass of champagne, she's finally ready to start living life to the max….
Olivia had thought that pre-party nerves would be the only thing to get her heart racing…until a view even more spectacular than the glow of Sydney Harbor catches her eye. The drop-dead-gorgeous man with the steely black eyes is everything Olivia has ever wanted—and this Christmas she's not going to wait meekly under the mistletoe!
was not a fan, the story was centered around a girl trying to carry on the legacy of her mom through fundraising on her yacht which is nice, but it didn't have the holiday spirit as the cover suggested.
There's something about lonely people at Christmas in romance novels that makes me smile. A lot. Mainly because they're pretty much guaranteed to be all cosy and loved up by the end of the novel.
Such is the story of Olivia and the utterly scrumptious Jett. Olivia's one of those heroines whose backstory really helps you to identify with her. She's raising money to set up a retreat for cancer survivors and their families to carry on the work of her mother, and the party where she meets Jett is a fundraising do that she'd really rather not be at.
Jett's at the party under much protest - he's only there cos his baby sister (whom he half blames for his father's decision to leave him to be fostered) wants him to be, and when he arrives at the party she's not even there!
It’s Christmas time and Olivia allows herself to have fun for the first time in a long time with a sexy stranger. Jeff, the playboy chef is tired of the rat race and finds the charity yacht race with Olivia and his sister what he needs.
While there is definitely a sexy element to the story, the sweet nature of Olivia’s relationship with Jeff is what drew me in. They slowly peel back the layers to reveal they are more than they and others think they are. They are two people who have been living in the moment for different reasons. Is a future even possible?
Disclaimer: While I personally know the author, this does not affect my star rating.
Olivia Wishart is juggling a lot of things during her holiday season. Most of them involve carrying out plans she’d made with her mother, who passed away earlier in the year. As head of the Pink Snowflake foundation, she needs to raise enough money to build a retreat for cancer survivors and their families. Read More
"Where do the two of us go from here? Are we friends or lovers?"
At first when I started this book I was not sure what direction the romance was going because right into chapter two the flirting resulted in a heavy lusterous kiss. It appeared this was going to be a flimsy relationship but eventually the flirting started to take deeper meaning. Basically, the story is about a one night stand that turned into a mature romance.
This contemporary romance gets full points for featuring a yacht ride from mainland Australia to Tasmania (I mean, c'mon, how many romances do you know contain a chapter dedicated to life on the high seas?!). However, unfortunately I didn't ~feel~ the connection between the main characters.
A female who can sail, stands up for what she believes in and has total respect for herself and her body - I loved Olivia and Jett's story that didn't stick to the usual romantic script. The writing kept me turning the pages and I admired Olivia's strength and determination.
"Oliver showcases her hero's vulnerabilities and her heroine's fears realistically. Humor and passion make for an engaging read." RT Book Reviews, rated 4 stars
