I use the same format for prayer that Gina Duke outlines in her book, Organizing Your Prayer Closet. The book is set up in steps toward effective prayer, and journaling about prayer needs and God's responses to prayer requests. It is practical, simple and makes perfect sense. By journaling prayer needs and writing down answers and blessings received through prayer you can see tangible changes occurring through this record. There is also a time for reflection.
I really enjoyed Gina's candor regarding her own pitfalls regarding her discussion of sin. We all carry sin around with us, and repeatedly fall into our own sin habits. Gina very openly expresses her own personal trials in eliminating a particularly difficult habit that brought out not only sin but shame in her life. This particularly difficult sin was only depicted by a frown face on her journal page whenever she encountered it, since she was embarrassed by it and didn't even know what to call it. I admire her candor regarding her own weakness. "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9
This is an excellent prayer tool to aid in setting up a personal prayer format that is practical, simple and easy to follow, and one that proves God does hear and answers our prayers. Documenting a prayer focus leaves a pictorial story and acknowledgment of how God works in your life. i really enjoyed this book. For years we have gotten into the habit of just kind of praying the same prayers over and over, day in and day out and we would just add any request for those having surgery or sick or had a need.
This book really changed the way I look at prayer. My wife already journals her prayers and then checked them off as she see fruits from those prayers.
The book part is short and then rest is a journaling system for your prayers.

This was a good book but the main feature is the built in prayer journal. Each week, you start a new page and track your prayer requests. It's a good tool for new and mature believers.

Organizing You Prayer Closet, is a unique update to a traditional idea. Many people use prayer journals to assist them in their prayer and devotional time but it is hard to find one specifically designed the way this one is. Organizing Your Prayer Closet, is a way to organize your prayers into several different categories. This book will help you organize your prayers similar to the way you would organize your closet.
I love the idea of a prayer journal. It is a written record of the prayers that you petition along with the blessings bestowed on those individuals as a result of your prayers. It is a good way to look back and to gain confidence by interceding for those individuals and it gives us hope in our God. The author supplies you with journaling pages as well as a prayer guide explaining the importance of intercessory prayer.
Spending time with the father in prayer and in His word are detrimental to our spiritual well being just as bread and water are beneficial to our physical bodies. We need God and should seek Him desperately and with fervor and this book is a way to do just that.

I was intrigued when I read the title of this book. I have kept a journal for many years; nothing fancy, mostly a spiral notebook where I drop my thoughts, prayers, problems and blessings. I’ve never really found a way to organize my thoughts, until now.
Ms. Duke has brought it all together for me in a clean, concise and organized manner. There are 10 sections that are covered in the book with each section/chapter building on the last, culminating in a wonderfully organized plan. As each section is defined and discussed, Ms. Duke offers suggestions and helpful advice to make the most out of your newly organized prayer closet and your one-on-one time with Jesus.
I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to take their precious alone time with Jesus to the next level; to really witness and understand His hand at work in their life and to see the real effects of their petitions and prayers.

The Prayer Closet is a place within you to find the inner peace of a closer relationship with God. There is a journal at the back of this book with steps for prayer, [raise, Thanksgiving, forgiveness, petitions, updates on prayer, faith and follow through are just a few things to help build a stronger prayer time. I keep a small notebook by my computer to add prayer requests from my friends online. I pray over each requests when I go on the computer. This journal will make it easier to keep up with each prayer requests, dates the prayers were answered. I met someone that said they did theirs with a spread sheet. Too much like my work (I worked in finance for years). Gina Duke shows each step with prayers, scriptures and how to accomplish each step. This book will help you to have a stronger prayer life, enable you t find hat special place for you and God to have a closer relationship. When you set up your own prayer closet I think you will be amazed at how much stronger and sweeter is your prayer life will be. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to spend time in prayer and worship with God.

"Organizing Your Prayer Closet" is a nicely organized guide to enriching ones prayer life. Gina Duke explains many different steps to prayer, adds scripture verses and real life experiences to create this unique book. Duke's main focus is on the many benefits of journaling our prayers. I agree with her, that journaling helps keep our thoughts orgainzed and reminds us what and when we have prayed for certain things. Taking the time to write our requests, thanksgiving, answers to prayers, missed and taken opportunities to share God's word, and our heart's desires helps keep our prayer life rich and well thought out.
I would recommend this book for any Christian that desires to improve their quiet times with God, although it is important to remember that God hears all prayer, and one should not be intimidated by this book. It is a tool to help you, not a book that tells you that you are praying all wrong! The first half of the book is to read and the second half contains well organized worksheets to get you started on your writing!

Gina Duke has given us so much information in this book on how to have a better prayer life, how to make our prayers more effective and draw us closer to God by organizing our prayer closet. I realized after reading this book that I need a specific place for a prayer closet.
I like that Gina included the weekly worksheets that will start us on a year long journey of keeping a prayer journal.
Gina does not shy away from including her own failings and sins. She has also included many scripture verses.
Before I read this book, I had already been thinking that I should write down the name of each person I need to pray for and the prayer requests for each one. I can see that writing down the answers to my prayers would help me to praise and thank God for All His answered Prayers and Blessings not just the ones I happen to remember.
I plan to start organizing my prayer closet and keep a journal of my prayers.

“Organizing Your Prayer Closet: A New and Life-Changing Way to Pray,” by Gina Duke is a guide for helping a person’s prayer life. Each chapter is aimed at a different part of a prayer life, from “Praise and Thanksgiving,” “At the Right Time,” “Faith and Follow-Through” plus seven more” Each chapter is followed by instruction and examples on how to fill out a prayer journal, plus there are sample prayer journal pages in the back. By using the journal each person is able to see how God works through their prayer petitions.
This is a wonderful book for those who are just beginning their prayer lives and as a reminder for those that may need to find a different manner of keeping a prayer journal.

Organizing Your Prayer Closet is a delightful book about taking prayer to a new level. Ms. Duke provides 10 titles targeting specific areas such as Freedom and Forgiveness, My Heart/My Passion, Ears to Hear, Faith and Follow Through. In the first part of the book, she discusses each of the target areas providing insight, direction and prayer. The last part of the book takes each of those titles and provides areas to journal. In the book Ms. Duke says, “When we write down our prayer petitions, we truly surrender our worries, our confusion, and our need to know how things will turn out. The strokes of the pen symbolize the release of our petitions into God’s hands.” It is a great tool to take prayer from whining and complaining to active, intentional battle. Prayer can be confusing at times. Some people keep journals, some people follow scripted prayers. But is there a correct way to pray? Is there a way to pray that truly connects us to God? The author has done an amazing job of simplifying the process of prayer journaling while showing the reader how to grow closer to God through prayer.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing is simplistic enough to be read by someone at any stage of life. But it has depths to it that were greatly appreciated. The actual book is only about 100 pages. The back of the book is filled with journal space in the format the author laid out. It is thoughtfully laid out and would be a benefit to anyone wanting to step up their prayer life.

Organizing Your Prayer Closet: A New and Life-Changing Way to Pray is a motivating and practical tool to revitalize your prayer life. I love the organizational tools found in this book.
The first hundred pages are dedicated to walking you through each step of organizing your prayer closet. Gina provides real-life examples to help you understand how to use this valuable resource.
The second hundred pages are fill-in the blank pages, categorized and ready for you to record your prayers on a weekly basis. I am excited to see how God answers my prayers, guides my steps and demonstrates His faithfulness through the pages of this helpful guide.
I wondered if the prayer organizer might feel like more work or burdensome, but after understanding the benefits, I realize that this tool will help me be more faithful in praying.

What a wonderful, enlightening book! I could so identify with Gina Duke in some of her examples in this book. One thing that stood out was how many times has someone asked me to pray for them and of course I tell them yes. But then a few days past and I realized I have never prayed for them. I just forgot! This book shows you how to organize your prayer life. You record what you pray for and what prayers are answered. I am a big time organizer so of course, I loved this book! I am definitely going to incorporate this into my prayer life and I think it is going to help! Gina Duke is a great writer. I will definitely read more books by her and I definitely recommend this book to everyone!

In Organizing Your Prayer Closet, Gina Duke presents a clear and simple, yet profound way to deepen one’s prayer journaling as well as a different way of approaching daily prayer time. She uses illustrations from her own experiences that everyone can identify and even chuckle for having the same thoughts and reactions. Although each of us is uniquely created, we all seem to have similar struggles that hinder our prayer life. Mrs. Duke addresses these in a down-to-earth manner and then presents the tools that can give freshness to our daily walk with God.

Thanks to Gina Duke not only for a terrific method to prayer for those of us who never regarded prayer as an organized activity but also for providing me with a New Year's Resolution… journaling and keeping track of my prayers. Love her worksheets at the end but I will alter them to suit my needs. I bet she doesn't mind a bit. Not only is the book a well written, quick read but motivational too. Loved how she incorporates Bible people and contemporaries as examples of those who succeeded and failed when talking to God. Loved it!

When I saw the title of this book I knew I had to have it. This book has helped me become more deliberate and organized in my prayer life. I have never had a prayer “closet”, and I have been hearing the phrase more and more and wanted to have one. I’m terrible at remembering a specific request people mention to me and this helps me to remember. I also love the idea that I can record answers to prayers. I’m looking forward to many answered prayers in 2014!

This prayer guide is really unlike any I have experienced before!
The author has brilliantly tackled the tough issues of prayer, everything from boredom to recognizing when God answers a prayer.
I especially love the way the book helps you record your prayers step by step.
I am a prayer journal-er at heart, but this book takes my journaling time to a whole new level!
I also love that the book encourages you to record when God answers prayer. We are quick to forget the goodness of God, and keeping record of past answers can encourage us for the future!!!

This book is excellent for the new or longtime believer. I think that Gina Duke really hits the head on the nail when she shares her convictions. We need to fully understand that when we pray we are talking to God.
I love how the first 109 pages are an explanation of how to organize your prayer closet. Then the rest of the book are actual journal pages to be used by the reader.
This book would make a great gift to give to yourself or someone you know.

Organizing Your Prayer Closet is a very instructive, easy to understand book on how to really pray—not just ask God for things. The author made it very easy to follow, with half the book showing how to organize your thoughts and prayers and the other half with pages for journaling.
