The Monster of Hotel No. 7

Rate this book
LITTLE SUN

I am the princess of Writhe, a secret society slithering with evil. But I have everything I could ever want… except him. Sullen Rule disappeared two years ago from Ritual Drive, our shared, private street. After sending off dozens of unanswered letters in hopes they may one day reach him, I have nearly given up on ever seeing the boy of shadows again. But one night at Hotel No. 7, he appears in the dark. And he is no longer content to only watch me. I wake up in a green-glowing lab, his body over mine, and where we go from here… That’s anyone’s guess.

SULLEN RULE

My father is the former leader of Writhe. I am his experiment. She was the only sun in my life, but I have spent too long watching her with other boys while I have never had anyone of my own. Stitches, bruises, scars; I am covered in them. She will loathe me. I will disgust her. But I can no longer stay away. It’s time for Karia Ven to enter my lab, and what I do to her here will echo down in the lore of Writhe for centuries to come, even if neither of us survive it.

The Monster of Hotel No. 7 is unique to anything I've read before. As far as subgenre goes, it's dark romance with horror elements, and as promised, it has major Frakenstein vibes. It's not a retelling, but trust me, you will understand that description when you read it. I actually want to say a lot more on the subject, but I don't want to risk spoiling anything for anyone. Just know that this particular aspect of the story is my absolute favorite thing about it.

Sullen and Karia grew up together in the same secret society, Writhe, but their lives couldn't have been more different. Karia is spoiled with designer clothes, shoes, and whatever her heart desires while Sullen is kept in the dark and abused in the most horrific ways. Despite that, Karia has always been drawn to Sullen even though her friends view him as nothing more than a freak. Sullen reciprocates Karia's interest more than she knows, but his feelings are complicated and discouraged by his insane father.

My heart literally broke for Sullen the entire time I was reading this damn book. I don't know if I have ever felt worse for a member of the Unsainted world, and that's saying something. The things he was forced to endure his whole life are beyond cruel and just really fucking sad. He deserves a happy ending with the only person that's ever made him feel like something other than a monster.

K.V. Rose left us off on a cliffhanger with this one, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Above all else, I sincerely hope Sullen's dad gets his just deserts, and I hope Sullen is the one to give them to him. Fingers crossed, it's as brutal as what he dished out to the child he was supposed to love and care for.

Horror and dark romance readers and fans of all things strange and macabre, this one's for you!

Oh my god. This story blew me away. This is one of K.V. Rose’s best yet. Truly.
I say that respectfully because I’ve loved all her books but this one just had me griping my kindle the entire ride.

Karia and Sullen were born into the Writhe but played very different roles. The Writhe is a criminal organization full of dark secrets. Karia is the princess. Raised by good parents and spoiled. She likes the finer things in life…. At first glance.
Sullen was kept away. Isolated by his father. His father followed his own beliefs… and that included making Sullen’s life horrifically hellish. Possibly worse.

Karia was the only one that saw Sullen. Tried to befriend the outcast boy that lurked in the shadows. She, like everyone else, had no clue was his father was putting him through. Treating him like a test doll. Frankstein is is quite fitting for Sullen….

Sullen and Karia are an unlikely duo. She’s his Sun.
“In the darkness of Ritual Drive, she is the everlasting, unattainable sun.”

“Hurt me. Break my bones if you want. Peel my skin. Pull my hair. Push me so hard I throw up. I want you to, Sullen Rule. I always have.”

Do we call what these two have, love? I’d like to think so. Thoughts of her what kept him going. Kept him alive.
Thoughts of him is all she wants.
They crave eachother.
Own eachothers soul.
The shadow lurker and his Sun.

He’s broken and twisted and she’s determined to fix him. He finds himself unworthy but doesn’t want to let her go.
Both on the run from the Writhe and his father, where do they go now?!
This book is creepy as fuck and angsty as shit.

“I am not used to anyone touching me in want. Of course I desire you. “

“I do not know what it means to be wanted back.”

“You don’t scare me, Monster Boy.”

Oh this book leaves off on a wild cliffhanger. But hang on. This story is unraveling as it should and it’s one hell of a dark and twisted road.

BOOK REVIEW

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝒏𝒐. 𝟕 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 🧟‍♀️💚

Let me preface this by saying that I’m a not-so-secret lover of the macabre, gothic, and gore, and that this book, oddly enough, soothed my soul. I mean it ripped my heart out for obvious reasons to those who’ve read it but it soothed my soul, too. Don’t worry, you’ll get it.

Another not-so-secret about me is that I admire K and all that she creates. Her stories, her mythos and her characters—this book was no different.

Obsession, tension and possessiveness. The ominous trifecta that promises us a beautifully peculiar relationship between newcomers Sullen and Karia.

I won’t go into detail. Everyone should go into K’s books blind because they are for sure an experience. Her writing sucks you and won’t let you come up for air until you’ve finished it. And even then, it feels like you can’t breathe because the story is still holding you hostage.

The Monster of Hotel no. 7 is a frustratingly slow—in the best way—dark romance that dances with death and flirts with horror (K’s words). I love how you’ve evolved when it comes to sex aspect in your stories. Hope that’s not weird to say. You focus more on tension and the build up and the want and the longing between characters and I am so here for it.

𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑺𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏.

Anyways—a cruel and monstrous five star read. Dual narration first person perspective and present tense. Beautiful stylistics and incredible formatting. Dive into the dark underbelly of Writhe’s secret experiments. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

***4,5 "Little Sun!!!" stars***

“You should know better than to feel sorry for monsters.”

Wow!!! There are no other stories like the ones K.V. Rose is writing...
Dark, delicious, twisted, horrific.... still, they are getting under your skin and you are wishing for more...
Sullen and Karia captivated me from the very first chapter and they pulled me into their world completely and now, I am craving more!!!
More of this crazy and twisted tale full of Frankenstein vibes...
This was a very haunting ride to the darkness and even though I am kind of scared to see where it will lead us, I can not stay away...

"If I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear." {Frankenstein, Mary Shelley."

Karia was a princess in her world... She adored fine and very expensive things... And she had everyone on her feet, except the boy who was hiding in the shadows...
She was obsessed with this boy for a very long time and when he vanished two years ago, Karia couldn't stop thinking about him....
Sullen is hiding in the shadows... He was supposed to be the Prince of Writhe, but he was a tormented boy by his own flesh and blood.... His only ray of sunshine in this ugly world is Karia, a girl that is under his skin, even though he knows he can never have her...
Now, after two whole years, Sullen is back to Hotel No 7 and he is determined to take Karia with him, in the darkness...
From that moment, a wild and crazy ride is starting....

"Don't get excited, Little Sun. I will never bring you out of the dark now."

I liked this couple so much.... They were both fucked up in their own way, but they were just perfect for each other...
Karia was misunderstood in a way, but I liked that she never even flinched in Sullen's gruesome appearance....
As for Sullen.... God, my heart was breaking for this broken boy and everything that had happened to him...
Of course, Sullen wasn't normal in behavior... He felt fiercely for Karia, but in a very unorthodox way...

"No one is interested in someone like me. No one." {Sullen}

"I never made a choice. There wasn't one to make. I was always going to follow you, Sullen." {Karia}

I really liked this story...
It was intense, fast paced and with thriller vibes in it...
From time to time, it was frightening to keep reading, but I enjoyed this different ride very much!!!
Honestly, I can not wait for the second part cause this cliffy made me question everything...
The Monster of Hotel No 7 is surely very addictive!!!

“You may be my experiment,
but did you know I am yours too?”

Wish I could give this more then 5 stars!!!!! K.V. Rose ripped my heart out and fucked with my head a number of times telling Sullen and Karia's story!!! I honestly couldn't sleep after reading this book! It brought out so many different emotions, some good and some really bad. I cried I don't know how many times at what Sullen endured at the hands of his father!!! Stein Rule is a sick and twisted motherfucker who not only bashed in his wife's head but experimented on his son disfiguring his body to attain god like immortality!! He is evil and enjoys the mental, emotional and physical pain that he causes his son and no one ever stopped him! Sullen has been kept separated from the others for years and the only one who ever really talked to him and didn't see him as some kind of freak was the beautiful Karia waveria Ven the spoiled princess of Writhe. Most think she's a empty headed brat who's only use is to marry a powerful alliance but theirs more to her then meets the eye. When Sullen gets a chance to escape his prison he kidnaps Karia and takes her to his secret lab and she just might not make it out alive. This couple were a perfect match!!! Karia really showed a different side to her party girl personality by stepping up to everyone she knows to defend a guy that everyone calls a freak who has suffered terribly and just maybe the monster of hotel 7! This isn't a sweet lovers kept apart from each other romance! Its twisted and raw leaving not only them but the reader wondering if theirs any hope. And with both characters being flawed and so different from each other it makes you wonder why they are drawn to each other but I think like knows like and it worked. Theirs a whole lot of angst with a good dose of erotic horror and some very emotional scenes that had me wishing I could rip out not only Stein Rules black depraved heart but all of the members of Writhe who knew deep down that their leader was a violent psychopath who should have been put down long ago and saved the world from the true monster of this story. This book does end on a cliffhanger with Sullen and Karia hiding out in the old hotel 7. Karia wants so much to be with Sullen, but will her love and acceptance be enough to keep the ghosts of past away or has she just walked willingly into the arms of her killer! Excellent writing and amazing characters with a original storyline make this a must read! Triggers be damned! K. V. Rose is a fantastic storyteller who pushes boundaries and takes you out of your comfort zone!! Who knew dark romance with a little erotic horror could feel so good! Until Next time Luv's💕💋

Of course this would end in what I can only describe as a cliffhanger of epic proportions!!! I don't think that I can properly articulate how obsessed I am, not just with this story, but with Sullen. OBSESSED.

Waiting for the next book to release is already torturous.

the new love of my lives 💚

I loved this book so much! Even with all the emotions I went through reading this, I was hooked from start to end. Sullen rule, is my new baby boy! He deserves to be loved and cherished. Karia, though the complete opposite of sullen, was still amazing. Her light combined perfectly with sullen’s darkness. The way the both of them constantly reached to each other in their minds was so sweet! Give me more more mutually obsessed couples right now ❤️

🩹🧟🦷🎀💉🥼💚☠️🧪

-horror
-gothic dark romance
-secret society [organized crime]
-frankenstein // edward scissorhands vibes
-creepy mad scientist dungeon
-broken boy//virgin mmc
-spoiled "princess" fmc
-slow burn
-a tiny bit of dub-con 🌶️
-cliffhanger

let me just say karia's [fmc] opening letter, got me. from the first chapter, i knew this would be something special. i have never read anything like this. i loved the connection between karia×sullen. kv has a beautiful poetic way of writing the most unique stories i have ever read.

if you haven't read kv yet, what are you doing!? i highly recommend her work. she's in a league of her own🤌🏼

MY FAVORITE QUOTES:

❝Karia Waveria Ven is embedded under my skin like a bullet I can’t remove. If she is dislodged, it’ll be fatal. [...] The lacerations along my skin are nothing compared to the gaping wound her absence leaves in my life.❞

❝ [..] i only think of you all the time.
i only want to bite you so hard you bleed.
i only want to bracket you in glass, taxidermy of the worst kind.❞

❝Stay awake. Don’t dream. This is a nightmare you have to survive.❞

❝[..] she is the everlasting, unattainable sun. I want to storm over her, cloak her in violent lightning and blackest clouds.❞

❝You dance inside my head in the most macabre way.❞

❝[..] she is the brightest thing in the dark. ❞

❝[..] the girl of my dreams and nightmares❞

❝“Do you want to know who did it to me?” His voice is lower. Scratchy, rough. Distorted. “Who made me this?”❞

okay side note: i have not read ambition nor the full unsainted series [only book 1]. there's a note at the beginning stating you get more information on the secret society, writhe//characters in that companion novella. kv highly recommends reading ambition and i should have listened. i'm not going to lie, at first i was overwhelmed with the amount of character names and their ranking in writhe. but after awhile everything felt easy to understand.

what i didnt like:
× there were a few times it got slow & i had to set the book down so i didn't skim.
×this is me being nitpicky but to keep this spoiler free, I'm going to be vague. there's a part where the characters are on hiding and need a change of clothes. karia *has to* get luxury everything including high heels. then they proceed to walk the rest of the day. this threw me off & i spent too much time wondering why on earth someone on the run would want to/could wear stilettos.

tw⚠️: mentions of bullying, suicide, extreme child abuse, graphic mad scientist experiments, parent tries to unalive their child, somnophilia, poisoning, kidnapping, mentions of sex w/ om, animal abuse, graphic details of death of childhood pet

ARC Review - All opinions are my own.

I didn’t know what to expect when reading The Monster of Hotel No. 7 but omg if it wasn’t one of the best books I’ve read this year! This is my first time reading anything KV Rose, and I’m so mad at myself for not picking up her books before… the writing is soooooo smooth.
Sullen & Karia, Karia & Sullen. They’re not leaving my head anytime soon. What these two share, I’m not sure I can explain it, is it love as much as if it’s obsession? I guess only time will tell.
Sullen hurt me, he felt so idk real to me, and there’s still so much to discover when it comes to him but what we know, I just want this beautiful boy to experience the joys of life. The infamous ‘monster’, the shadow that no one wanted to see but Karia.
Karia made me feel euphoric, and I say this as a compliment btw lol. She’s so much more than what she thinks. Plus, I have to admit I do love it when a FMC has a thing for pink, because I do too… ehem, and that little detail of her liking this specific shade of green, that’s Sullen coded.
The chemistry between Karia & Sullen is hot and cold, yes they don’t know much about each other but at the same time I feel what little (or important revelations) they share, they felt so raw. I was swooning the entire time Sullen had these cute little thoughts about Karia, while they may seem like whatevs if you see the bigger picture, they clearly show how Karia is Sullen’s soft spot. And she is his strength, too.
That ending!!! Gosh, I don’t know what else to say besides I’m in love with this book and I’m so excited to see how everything unravels.

The Monster of Hotel No7 by KV Rose

What to expect:
🧪Frankenstein vibes

I can’t with this book!!! I’m OBSESSED. The characters, the vibe, the plot, the history. It’s literally my favourite of this year so far.

Sullen and Karia are so unique I can’t help but be hooked by their draw to one another. I need it all.

I have goosebumps all over my body, insane what KV did. I'm so in love with this book. It makes your skin crawl and your mind twists trying to think what is coming next.
I really thought I would not like so much this book, I didn't get this interested because I normally just stick to what I normally like to read, but TMOHN7 is so... I can't even explain, you need to read to get the meaning of what I want to say. It really got under my skin, and I don't know why.
Now, the interesting bit, I loved Sullen and Karia! They're sweet but dark, their obsession with each other strong but they have a lot of insecurities and doubts.

“𝙆𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙒𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙑𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣’𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚. 𝙄𝙛 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙜𝙚𝙙, 𝙞𝙩’𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙡. 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣’𝙩 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙧. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙧.” 🎀

Karia Ven is seen as stupid and useless, just because she isn't the traditional girl boss persona, she's sassy but sweet, a blonde cliché who got an interest in the "freak" boy.

“𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙢𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣 𝙍𝙪𝙡𝙚. 𝙄’𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩. 𝙄 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚, 𝙝𝙚’𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙, 𝙬𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙪𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙗𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙧𝙚.” 🧟‍♂️

Sullen Rule, unseen all his life and mistreated by his father, lost his mother and after that never knew love and understanding, he grew up with nobody as a company but his obsession with the princess of Writhe, thinking he's not enough and all Karia could feel for him is disgust.

“𝙏𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙪𝙣 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙧.” 🧪🎀🧟‍♂️

You guys. I swear i have no idea where to start. Every time i think i know what to expect from KV, she just fucks me up again. Absolutely.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐍𝐨. 𝟕 is unlike any of her other books. It is equally insane and disturbing (in the best way) but also feels very different. There are not so many twists as I am used to with K (except that cliffhanger we are NOT talking about bc i want to cry) and the story is quite simple. But it is sooo unique. I swear you've never read story like this one. And the writing, damnnn. Captivating. Raw. Utterly consuming. There are not good enough words to describe it.

“𝑫𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅, 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒏. 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝒏𝒐𝒘.”

Now, very little about the story. Sullen and Karia are both born into the Writhe - something like a crime organization, connected to The 6 and Unsaints from Unsainted series (poor people in Alexandria, surrounded by sooo many fcked up freaks lol). She tried to befriend him but he didn't let her get close to him. But after 2 years, the lost boy is no longer hiding in the shadows. And now he wants her close.

Karia was raised to play her part in Writhe, she is spoiled and shallow. At least on the first glance... Sullen is an outcast, son of a previous Writhe leader. He is broken and completely alone. Dealing with a lot of traumas and indescribable pain. He is convinced that he is a monster unworthy of love.

“𝑯𝒖𝒓𝒕 𝒎𝒆. 𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝒎𝒚 𝒃𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕. 𝑷𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒎𝒚 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏. 𝑷𝒖𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒓. 𝑷𝒖𝒔𝒉 𝒎𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒖𝒑. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐, 𝑺𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑹𝒖𝒍𝒆. 𝑰 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆.”

Seems like the most weird couple to you? Well, they are... Sullen is very wounded and deeply misunderstood. But he is obsessed with Karia. And he cares about her, in his very own and peculiar way. And Karia cares about him too. She is not afraid of him. She is just as obsessed with him as he is with her. Karia is determined to fix him. And Sullen? He refuses to let her go. No matter what. And I am telling you, these two are the most unexpected pairing AND the most brilliant one. I can't wait for the second part of their story 🖤

BOOK REVIEW

The Monster of Hotel No. 7 by KV Rose

“You should know better than to feel sorry for monsters.”

KV HAS DONE IT AGAIN—who knew that I would fall for a monster boy and the princess of Writhe, in this gothic, horror with a splash of romance story. I kinda had my ideas of how this one would play out but boy was I wrong (and I’m here for being wrong) because the story was SO much better! KV really has a way with words (which is one out of 19475729973829 reasons why I will read every one of her stories) that I was honestly creeped out and nervous with my heart racing, looking over my shoulder to make sure no one was coming for me in the dark. Maybe the second one will only be read during the day? Oh who am I kidding, I’ll be reading it at night for the full experience of the prince and princess of Writhe.

I am rooting for the monster and his doll.

“Don’t get excited, Little Sun. I will never bring you out of the dark now.”

Soooo, first things first: this is my first book by K.V.Rose and right now, I’m wondering why it took me so long to read anything by her. I loved this book so much, I couldn’t imagine that I would be completely trapped in this world.
*Gothic vibe (I confess that this trope alone conquered me before I read it)
*Mafia vibes
*Frankestein vibes (seriously I FREAKING LOVE THIS)
*Slow burn
*Triggers (a lot of them)
For my first book by the author I confess I was a little lost in this world, but the story is so amazing and creepy and the characters so good that I dive into this book real quickly. Sullen is one of the best characters I have ever read: lost, obsessed, with a traumatic past (really traumatic) and a definition of ‘morally gray’ character in him. Karia is a spoiled girl, but who (in the most improbable way) I really liked. Incredible story, for incredible characters. I really can’t wait for the second book.

This story... it was wild. I hung on every word while reading and couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. I really loved the horror aspect of it, the monster that no one loves, but their true love sees.

Sullen will do anything for his Little Sun, Karia. They are opposites, but fit with each other so well! Sullen decides that she's his and his alone and decides to take action on that. This one ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the second one. I know it's going to be dark and oh so delicious!!

At times, I felt like this book was a 4 star read, especially because I truly never have read a book like this before. The grotesque horror vibes were truly spot on. I was cringing so many times from the gore or descriptions. I loved that it made me feel all the things. In addition to this, the paradox of how sad and absolutely a cutiepie our main dude is internally has me SOBBING. What a contrast. Great job.

However, there were times that I felt like the book was falling short and more of a 2 star read. There was a lot of repition whether that be dialogue or inner monologue. Also the storyline was a bit muddy. I honestly could not tell you who's family is doing what where. I felt pretty blind throughout the story on the actual world building, outside of our main couples immediate plot. Some chapters felt a liiiiiiittle bit pointless.

Overarching thoughts: the vibes were there, Sullen's inner monologue was the epitome of sad boy and I was obsessed, I didn't like our main girl tbh but still loved the couple, a bit confusing at times, and the last chapter WAS SO SCARY OMG. I ACTUALLY WAS SUPER TERRIFIED. I Love "abandoned haunted house" sort of vibes. Def was an interesting turn of events.

PLEASE LOOK UP TRIGGERS AS THIS WAS NOT AN EASY BOOK TO READ AT TIMES AND I THINK IT COULD BE VERY TRIGGERING FOR SENSITIVE AUDIENCES. DONT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU.

The Monster of Hotel No 7.
* Kv is my favorite author. I love her books but this one was a huge let down and a miss. This is one of her weaker writings; It has amazing bones but I think the idea does not line up with the execution of the story. This reminds me of her Debut - Vengeful duet. While I didn’t love the story I also didn’t hate it. I think it was over hyped, has some inconstancy’s and is repetitive, the eerie horror vibe fell flat most of the time, I did love a few moments between characters and a few scenes, and some character dynamics or moments. I did appreciate some sub plot ideas- like what creeps attic represents. But I also feel like there is a lot of over explaining and unnecessary scenes or rather some scenes are unnecessarily long leading to it being repetitive. I feel like their isn’t enough tension between Sullen and Karia. It pains me to not love this book, but I can’t lie to myself. KV is my favorite author but she is human and not a god, which is a hard concept for some readers to realize about their favorite artist because most readers these day are yes men who are afraid to have a differing opinion. I’m not a yes man. She can still be my favorite author even if I think this book sucked in a Lot of ways. That being said I am torn between giving it 2 or 3 stars.

Here’s the break down of why I can’t give this more than 3 stars.

* It’s repetitive - repetitive internal monologues, fights, touching only when tied down. lots of mini fight scenes in the dark. Taking her back to the chair. People getting hit in the head with a flashlight-twice. Drinks getting thrown on people.
* The characters tone and cadence is very very similar between sullen and karia. Sullen has a very specify way of talking; it’s very sharp and clinical. Somehow that bleeds into the way karia sounds through the book even though it shouldn’t. They shouldn’t sound the same they were raise so very differently and they are very different. It’s like the author had a hard time switching from sullens tone or maybe it was a creative choice to try and add more eerie horror vibe to the story but it just feels wrong.
* The characters are inconsistent. Sullen switching between wanting to hurt/unalive her but we’re are almost always being told it’s how he feels. And then suddenly he is gentle and caring. It’s giving me whiplash. There is Not enough to make it a smooth transition for these feelings. Same with Karia saying she’s not scared of him and then few paragraphs later she is scared of him to a degree. Inconsistent.
* It is supposed to have a eerie horror esk feel to it. And it doesn’t. Bad thing happen and have happened to sullen but it doesn’t make me feel creeped out or eerie or horror esk. The set up is there the execution fell flat on that for me.
* Very repetitive between sullen and karia
* The book and has a slow feel to it. Not slow burn but slow pacing feel. 60% of this book takes place over the course of 12-16 hours which is fine but again it gets very repetitive.
* I find myself getting board and skipping paragraphs and or skimming
* There is some weird wording that make it unnecessarily hard to read,I’m not talking about from sullens POV and his clinical tone I’m talking about from Karia POV when it shouldn’t be weird or hard to understand.
* Sullen doesn’t use contractions from what i can tell. which is fine helps with his clinical tone and I started to realize that through the course of the book Karia doesn’t either which also makes them sound way to similar at times.
* It feels like good bones to a story but needed more time to develop.
* the charcters tend to throw questions at eachother then ignore the question to prompt their own question. This happens so much during the book. It’s always a battle with questions and answers and Ignoring the question to ask a their own question and go off on a side tangent.

“What if it’s you…” She angles her head to stare at me. “Who is afraid of me?”

“what did he say?” I press, refusing to entertain her question. “What did he say to you to bring you to the verge of tears?” Maybe I’m envious he did it instead of me.

* I feel like the book over explains to much. Like it’s holding my hand and baby stepping me through the whole story. Not giving the the option to come to my own conclusions and piece things together.
* They are always in the dark and can always see perfectly in the the dark.
* The amount of time her shoes - Vans are brought up, well it’s a lot. (13 times)
* They are always abruptly changing topics. We’re dealing with x then suddenly we switch to y then back to x. She’s fighting him back for her alcohol and then she suddenly grabs his bandana and goes off on a tangent about him hiding from her and his poor communication skills. Then back to fighting for her alcohol. It just feels like abrupt changes.
* Feel like there are some unnecessary scenes.
* I don’t really feel any chemistry between Karia and Sullen.
* Normally kv books are full of raw emotion and I don’t feel any emotion from this book. Karia is my least favorite FMC she has written. She annoys me.
* It almost gets eerie and scary and then it just misses the mark for me. The tension is building and then something in the scene ruins it for me.
* Ngl I’m kinda in love with Cosmo. He reminds me of mavy a bit.
* I do love the fact that kv is very good at not changing characters to fit another characters agenda or story line. Characters stay true to themselves. - ie Cosmo

I’m probably leaving other stuff out, but this is all I can think of at the moment. I did finish the book and I was bored through a lot of it. It just didn’t make me care. I wished I loved this story more, but unfortunately I do not.

There are more moments and quotes I want to add into my review to help show my points but I don’t Feel like trying to find them-I didn’t think about highlighting them as I read. Kicking myself now for not doing so.

”I have always had a soft spot for monsters. Dracula, Frankenstein, even Scar. They are the ones my heart bleeds for.”

I have Antichrist by The 1975 playing in my ear right now while I try to figure out what I want to write after finishing this absolutely glorious book. Naturally, this is a song on K.V.’s playlist because the woman knows how to choose the perfect songs for her characters.

Sullen Rule who speaks very little except for when it comes to Karia Ven. Sullen who has been - abused seems too little of a word - for a long time by a man I will not call his father out of respect for Sullen. Stein is a man who I assume played a part in the conception of Sullen, but other than that deserves no dad titles. He is a barely a man. He tortures, torments and ridicules Sullen day in and day out on his quest for immortality. He believes he can reach god like levels upon Sullen’s death. I mean to each their own, but poor Sullen having to endure this treatment for Stein’s silly dreams.

The only ‘good thing’ in Sullen’s life has been his little sun, Karia. He received punishment every time he was caught with his eyes on her, but she is all he has ever wanted.
Karia, who loves many variations of the color pink. Who loves frilly things, her makeup, and covers up her internal inflictions with alcohol and wild nights. Karia who has been attracted to Sullen for as long as she can remember. Even when he was shrouded in darkness, his body covered, creeping in shadows of the night. Karia wanted him. Karia can’t get Sullen to believe that though.

While reading Ambition (the novella before this - not required to read but suggested) I truly had no interest in Karia. She just didn’t seem like my type of character. But I knew from the minute I started this book that I was wrong about her. It was just that she wasn’t in the proper setting.
Karia mixed with Sullen. With running through hidden hallways. With darkness. With injuring other people. With tiptoeing the line of right and wrong. Leaving everything behind for a future uncertain. She needed this setting is all.

And this setting, wow. I’ll end on that. What else can I say about the fact K.V. is still the queen of writing dark ‘romance’. The way she tells a tale leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat. Fingernails in your mouth. Looking over your shoulder to see if that feeling of being watched is actually happening or you stepped too far into the story.
Chapter 40 - the last chapter - I read in a pitch black room. Not sure if it was the worst or best idea. I had such a feeling crawling over my skin. Truly was on the edge of my seat waiting and waiting to see what was under that door, behind that curtain, in those pipes.

Then I was left on a cliffhanger. But it was such a good chapter that I can’t even stay mad at the fact I don’t have the next part yet. I’ll hang on.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

“Hurt me. Break my bones if you want. Peel my skin. Pull my hair. Push me so hard I throw up. I want you to, Sullen Rule. I always have.”

This is a fantastic story from KV Rose. Not even 1/4 of the way through the book, I knew I would need a physical copy to put on my shelf. Once the hardcover went live, I placed an order. There are no regrets now that I have finished. Not only is the story so unique and compelling, but the cover art for both the paperback and hardcover is gorgeous.

It would be hard to give this book a spoiler-free review. In short – if you are looking for something different, a story outside the normal bounds of romance, almost bordering horror, you must read this. It’s dark and twisted and yet also somehow sweet. I absolutely fell in love with the MMC, Sullen, the monster of the story, who is not really a monster but a man who has had monstrous things done to him.

I was incredibly touched by Sullen’s pain and the abuse he suffered at his father’s hands. He has dual feelings of obsession (it can’t be love when all it causes him is pain, right?) and needs to possess Karia - to the point of death to keep her from anyone else. He requires control that colors all their interactions.

Karia was just as damaged, though she hid it under a veneer of sexual freedom and alcohol consumption. She chafes under the requirements of a Writhe princess, to be sold in marriage to further the society, with no choice but to comply, and pathetic in wanting anything different. She has deviant desires, allowing things to be done to her but always imagining Sullen’s hands, lips, and body on her, touching her. With an obsession in its own right, a long-time crush, now that she has him, she always chooses him, even as it damns her.

It is a slow burn with low spice story, though simmering desire and stolen touches are scattered throughout.

There are dangers in the shadows. There are dangers in the open. The might of the Writhe is set upon the lovers, as well as the evil that resides in Sullen’s father. The drama builds in a crescendo, leading to that cliffhanger ending. I need more and cannot wait for the conclusion of Sullen and Karia’s story.

Genre: Dark Gothic Romance
Tropes/Features: Horror elements, Frankenstein-esqu (not a retelling), virgin & damaged MMC, “princess” FMC, secret society, long-time obsessions and crushes, doctor/patient control play
Narrator: Dual 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MF, slow burn, mild spice (though with kinks)
Book Type/Ending: Book One of Stitches and Teeth Duet, cliffhanger
TW/CW: This is a dark romance, reader discretion advised – includes on-page abuse and body mutilation by parental unit, NC touching, CNC

✨🖤ARC Review 💚✨

So first of all. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT CLIFFHANGER. Can the second book release fast pleasssseee???

I'll start with the tropes:
🖤gothic dark romance
🧪secret society
🖤Frankenstein theme
🧪Creepy mad scientist dungeon
🖤Slow burn
🧪Monster” MMC/ Princess FMC
🖤Dual POV

"𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚋𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚌𝚛𝚞𝚎𝚕 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚚𝚞𝚒𝚎𝚝 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚊𝚠𝚏𝚞𝚕 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚐𝚎𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚘𝚏 𝚖𝚢 𝚑𝚎𝚊."

I truly loved this book so much!! It gave me goth and sunshine to it's fullest potential! Sullen (first of all, LOVE the name) was basically kidnapped by his father & separated from Karia and basically humanity which made him alienated to what we consider normal day to day interactions and situations. Which is what his personality is all about.... and being a bit violent. Which i absolutely love!!!

“𝙸 𝚊𝚖 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚝𝚘 𝚊𝚗𝚢𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚝𝚘𝚞𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚖𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝. 𝙾𝚏 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚎 𝙸 𝚍𝚎𝚜𝚒𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞. “ “𝙸 𝚍𝚘 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚝 𝚖𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚋𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔.”

"I'll kill you and not let anyone else have you", and the "touch her and DIE"!!!. Can you hear me giggling?? ❤️‍🔥😮‍💨He is such a big softie for his spoiled princess even in the toughest times they face. Overall truly I am in awe and hungover because of this book. I loved their dynamic and how they are both dying for one another but still taking their time to not panic each other. From childhood crush to being together against the world and all its' elements. It was painfully deliciously slow burn, but trust me it's a slow burn that'll enjoy. (Take it from someone who doesn't like slow burns). The pace was slow at times i have to admit but it didn't take anything away from the story. I leave you with one last quote from the many ones i saved tehe❤️‍🔥

"𝙸 𝚗𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚖𝚊𝚍𝚎 𝚊 𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚒𝚌𝚎. 𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚜𝚗'𝚝 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚖𝚊𝚔𝚎. 𝙸 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚊𝚕𝚠𝚊𝚢𝚜 𝚐𝚘𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚘 𝚏𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚘𝚠 𝚢𝚘𝚞, 𝚂𝚞𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚗."

The Monster of Hotel No. 7 is not a Frankenstein retelling, but it does give off serious Frankenstein vibes. It is a dark, Gothic-horror, contemporary NA romance, and while I am not typically a fan of horror, I am a fan of K.V. Rose. She writes it, I will read it. Somehow she always makes me love it, and yes, I loved this book.

This is the first book in the Stitches and Teeth duet and although you don't have to read Ambition first, if you have read it, then you've already met Karia Ven. She's the princess of Writhe, an evil secret society. Sullen Rue is the son of Writhe's former leader, and although Sullen disappeared two years ago, his absence hasn't lessened Karia's obsession with him. Covered in stitches, bruises and scars, Sullen knows that he will only disgust Karia. He's tired of staying away from her though. Karia should be his, and once he gets her to his lab, he won't be able to let her go.

I was uncertain how I'd feel about this book, but once I picked it up, I did not want to put it down. If there is any author that I trust to take me out of my comfort zone, it's this one, and there were definitely scenes in this book that made me uncomfortable. There were scenes that made me cringe and made my skin crawl all while breaking my heart at the same time. My heart broke for Sullen and I just wanted to wrap him up in my arms and take him away from all of this madness.

Karia and Sullen's story had me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath throughout so much of this book, and I was honestly scared of how it would end. Since this is only book one of a duet, it does end on a major cliffhanger, and I'm anxious to see how this story will continue to unfold in book two.

When a story starts with “I can’t survive with her. And I can’t live without her” you know you’re about to feel some serious angst.

I can say with certainty that I’ve never read anything like this book, probably never will after these. I mean that in a good way even though parts of this book scared me to death. It all starts with a letter that had me hooked from the beginning. I just knew this was going to be something special and I’d trust KV to fix whatever was about to be broken.

This whole story, as tragic and scary as it got, is so beautifully written. There were many parts I highlighted just in awe of KV’s writing. It’s a story about two souls born so close but couldn’t be further apart in well .. everything. Some parts of this book were truly heartbreaking, while others terrifying. Sullens whole upbringing by that, whatever you want to call the monster that should have been his father, was devastating. True Frankenstein moments. That was really hard to read but then it makes his connection to Karia that much more special. And Karia, I’m not sure what I expected from her after reading Ambition, but it wasn’t this. She’s so much more. When their paths cross again after letters and years apart, Sullen decides that he wants her no matter the cost. Can’t wait to see what happens after that cliffhanger. Ps… don’t read this book alone at night. That was my only mistake. 😐

Honestly I didn’t know what I was walking into with this one. And I think it was one of KVs best masterpieces yet.
Coming from someone that hopes and waits for the spice in books, you will not get the sexy time much in this book. But that’s not saying there isn’t sexual tension because let me tell you…and the few scenes like the shower scene at the end 🤯🤯
And ugh Sullen, him wanting to hide all the broken pieces of himself truly broke my little heart. And I’m just hoping that he lets Karia in. I think they both deserve to be vulnerable with eachother.
The mystery, the “Frankenstein” aspects to this book, I absolutely love.
I can’t wait to continue on with Sullen and Karia because I need to know more. I need to know who’s there!?

“This is like my own personal heaven. But when I glance over my shoulder and my eyes collide with Sullen’s, I see my hell.”

Thoroughly enjoyed this! Highly recommend going in blind and letting it swallow you whole.

I’m in love with these characters. Two people who from the outside look like they shouldn’t go together but they couldn’t be more perfect for each other.

This story takes place over a few nights but the interactions of these two will have you so captivated and I loved how it developed throughout the story. It wasn’t rushed at all and if you are anything like me you will be PINING for these two from start to finish.

Hi Friends! Let me tell you about this book I just read. Sullen Bram Rule a product of maltreatment and isolation wears blinders when it comes to Karia Waveria Ven, Writhe’s very own little princess. After being taken away from the Writhe neighbourhood on Ritual dr, Sullen comes back in search for Karia. What he discovers is even more than he had bargained for.

This story is very different, KV has officially entered her black and white film era. Frankenstein nods, Martyrs vibes (the original not the cheesy remake), underground crime syndicate and secret societies. This story is so so good, like unexpectedly good! I need the paperback and hardcover versions immediately in my possession to keep forever. I adore Karia & Sullen and I know you will too ♡︎

ARC Review 🧪💚

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Karia Ven is the Princess of Writhe, a secret society, who has everything at her disposal, so what more could she possibly want? Him. Sullen Rule. Her childhood crush who disappeared two years ago; she's written to him endlessly with no response. But now he's back and will no longer stay in the shadows. He needs her to be his. He knows she could never accept him, how could she? With the torture that he's been put through written all over his body. She could never want him when she sees who he really is. When they collide for the 1st time in years will she want to run away..will she even be able to?

🧪🧟‍♂️💚
KV Rose is one of my favorite authors and this story is the embodiment of why. It's so twistedly romantic and I don't think I've ever desired two people to be together to such a high degree. Sullen is tormented and has been put through so much abuse, he deserves love and to be wanted but doesn't know how to accept it. Karia has a twisted side to her that fits so perfectly with Sullen and it was paining me to experience the push-pull dynamic of the two of them.

Maybe I'm a bit demented but to me this is such a fucking beautiful love story. It's ends on a cliffhanger and I will be waiting with baited breath until Book II comes out.

This read was such an interesting but enjoyable read! If you know how KV Rose writes, then you should not be surprised by this writing.

The Monster of Hotel 7 is a gothic, dark contemporary romance that definitely will make you love these characters. KV Rose has such raw and open writing that I love experiencing the craziness that is this world. KV Rose definitely pushes readers to their limits and this is just another example of that. This book was enjoyable with emotion and impact. Sullen and Karia absolutely blew me away with their characters. I love their story.

Now this did leave us with wanting more. I am so excited to see what comes next. Anything KV Rose writes, I will read. I do recommend this book, but if you are not a fan of dark horror, maybe do more research.

Did it seriously have to end? I love this book so much! That cliffhanger literally made my jaw drop!! I loved Sullen and Kiara’s tale! It literally kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it!! I don’t know what Miss KV Rose put in this book but I need more!!! Like how it do I have to wait for the next one? I’m anxiously awaiting to see what is going to happen next. I loved the classic Frankenstein vibes and mystery this book gave and I was obsessed with learning more about Sullen’s mysterious past with Stein. If you like classic monster books, this is an excellent one to help you ease into romance type books. I loved the mixture of gothic monster horror, mystery, and smut all wrapped in one!! This book kept me guessing until the very end and I’m still sitting her scratching my head trying to figure out what plot twists are coming next! Loved this book and can’t wait until the next one!!
