Untenured, Uncensored: How to Survive the First Years of Teaching: How to Survive the First Years of Teaching

Rate this book
Untenured, Uncensored is a tell-all guide to the euphoric highs and unimaginable lows of teaching. Mahoney and Purr present the naked truth of their own blunder-laden first few years in order to help new teachers, those who think they might want to become teachers, and those in the business of training and hiring new teachers see the realities that cannot be conveyed through college classes. Through their stories, tips, and administrative analyses, the authors hope not only to save new teachers from making the same rookie mistakes but also to make administrators, college professors, and teacher trainers aware of the practical knowledge beginning teachers need before the first day of school.

I picked up a copy of this book because my 11th grade English teacher is one of the authors along with another teacher from my old high school. I thought it was really a light read that was loaded with good information. The personal stories keep you interested and you can see the personality of the authors come through as well as see your own mishaps in their experience. New teachers should grab this book for a quick read and it will give a light to some challenges that you may not even know teachers face.

Some good information here that is sure to be helpful for new teachers. I found the case studies entertaining and informative. I would have liked more depth to the discussions.
