Threeplay

Rate this book
A debut novel telling of three male friends involved in the running of an innovative theatre in Edinburgh, who find their relationships coming under strain through artistic, financial, and emotional differences plus problems in their interconnecting love lives.

Threeplay is a mating ritual, the game played in pubs, night-clubs and beside the office photocopier. It comes before foreplay, it comes before sex.

Threeplay is manipulation and insinuation. It is the cold twisting of fact and fiction to suit your own ends. Beneath the dazzling glare of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, three friends fight for their own idea of success. Roger, the bungling producer, looking for love in all the wrong places. Alasdair, the neurotic critic, left at the mercy of those higher up the sex-chain. And Jay, the charasmatic director, for whom fidelity is the ultimate dirty word. When their desires and passions are brought into brutal conflict, Threeplay is the only solution left. As artistic, social and sexual events are exploited in an ever increasing scale, hilarious humiliation and stark violence are the inevitable results. Because when it comes to Threeplay, someone has to lose...

Hm, an interesting attempt, and I was mostly interested because of it taking place during the Edinburgh Festival. A bit depressing as I recall.

Read this years go, but loved it. Funny, honest (especially about men's friendships with each other), and really good characters.
