A biography of the African American scientist describes how he overcame tremendous hardship to receive a college education and make important discoveries in the field of agriculture.
Sam Wellman, PhD, is a writer of numerous biographies. He has traveled to Germany many times and twice stayed for several months (in Berlin and Wittenberg). He blogs and tweets on Martin Luther and Frederick the Wise. He lives near Wichita, Kansas.
This was a very well-written biography, and I am glad I finally read it. I found his story, his life so very inspiring. He had so many different skills and talents! How impressive that he didn’t limit himself to honing just one thing. He pursued all of his passions - agriculture, science, and art! I relate to his zeal for knowledge and loved learning about how he continuously nourished his curiosity. He was so resilient and committed to fulfilling his purpose, refusing to let adversity stop him. I have a deep appreciation for the brilliant GWC and all that he contributed to the world. I need to make a trip down to his museum!

This was an excellent quick overview of the life of a great man. It left me with a hunger to read more about his life, his work, and his faith. It was also interesting to see how he addressed the racism in his day with grace and humility and how many white men and women were willing in that day to stand with him in the struggle. This is a fact that we need to hear more of today to bring balance to the dialog.
Well, it was okay as far as biographies go. It told the story of his life, that is to say, without too much biographical anguish.
I must say, he may have been a rather interesting and pivotal being, but I fail to see why it is that he is considered a hero of The Faith, as indicated in this book. Ah well.
This biography is extraordinary. Sam Wellman is a super talented writer. It's unbelievable that he wrote so many great biographies. Carver used his mind in a way very few people do . This demonstrates our unlimited capacity to learn and be creative. This book should be required reading for everyone.
I knew about Mr. Carver, but had no idea about all his accomplishments. Amazing, considering the times when he lived. This book is a very easy read and will give anyone a glimpse into his life.
Mandatory reading for Americans. This is an alternate view of what race relations might have been like had different people taken control of the black movement.
