I was given an ARC of this book for review. I wasn't sure about reading it for a bit, because I'm not a big fan of the genre. But, after I read Words With Fiends I realized I really liked his writing and that was enough to get me to start reading.

There were times in the book where I had to put it down because I was laughing so hard. Seth is an absolute hoot! I liked him a lot. The characters were believable and relatable.

Well now, this book was able to hold my attention so well I didn't want to put it down. And I didn't....finished it in one day. The characters, especially Seth were well throughout out and written, the storyline was well paced and all in all, it was enjoyable

Seth Gabriel is a cleaner, of sorts. No, not your typical housemaid that stops by weekly to take out the trash and straightens up the house, not exactly. Instead, he cleans your home of unwanted house guests, particularly, ghosts. He is recently separated from his wife, Rene; money is real tight, and business is slow. Thankfully he receives a call from Courtney Reeves- she hears noises in the night at the home she inherited from her grandfather, and is a little creeped out to say the least. Hec ...more

I was lucky enough to beta read this book in March. I thought it was so good and funny. The dialogue was so funny. I liked Seth from the beginning. It was reminiscent of an episode of Supernatural. It is really funny and not in a trying too hard obnoxious way, but an honest to goodness laugh out loud funny. "I was just about ready to show him my maturity with a stream of curse words..." The pacing was good. The characters are great. When Seth's back story is revealed I felt really sorry for him. ...more

Seth Gabriel is one of those characters you love to love, flawed but awesome anyway. There had better be a sequel to this or I will be downright depressed. I'm thinking series actually.

Ghosts of Demons past is a perfect combination of horror, humor and kick-butt action that propels you to the end almost involuntarily. I wanted to make it last but couldn't stop myself from reading until the very end.

Realistic characters, snappy dialogue and an awesome plot make this book a definite winner.

Loved the book. The character Seth is a p.i. a. & a foul mouth. But, he is hilarious & even when it's smarter to keep his mouth shut... he keeps on jabbing. ..With the what gift or curse he has u can respect his gumption. Books that make you laugh out loud and make ev1 around u look at u funny....are rare. Plus I might have a new catch phrase or two from Seth.

I think a sequel is definitely needed. I demand other supporters of this book to rally together and demand another Seth Gabriel book. What is not to love about this book? Demons, ghosts, paranormal, psychic medium, sex (and lots of it), hookers, tequila….and the same campy quality of Evil Dead. If this were ever to be adapted into movie form, I would pay double to see Bruce Campbell play Seth.

To know anything about Demons, you must first believe in demons. Seth is a drunk on Hornitos, down on hi

Seth Gabriel is one messed up dude. He is divorced, a drunk, pays women for sex, hides from his landlord and is a shitty father. And, that's all in a day's work! But, things seem to be looking up after he meets Evan Gallagher and gives him a proposition that Seth cannot refuse. But, will it ultimately destroy Seth and push him over the edge?

I like books about ghosts, demons, witches, vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc. It makes me feel like a kid again to read about these characters, almost like

To start with, I love that the “hero” of the book REALLY doesn’t fit the normal idea of a hero. Seth is a recently divorced alcoholic (although not really convinced that his drinking is a problem), with a young son, and a cleaning service that isn’t hugely successful. Oh yeah…and because it’s not a normal cleaning service, like the sign says. It’s a word-of-mouth cleaning of ghosts service. Seth sees ghosts. He speaks to ghosts. Although, he doesn’t want to sound TOO crazy, so even his clients d ...more

The “ghost whisperer” concept gets a major facelift in the first full-length novel by author Matt Schiariti.

Seth Gabriel is a man carrying many crosses: he’s separated from his wife, he throws himself into booze and sex to escape, and he can speak to ghosts, whether he wants to or not. His status as a spiritual medium has long been an unwanted gift… even after he learned to turn it into a career. But when the desperate (and wealthy) attorney Evan Gallagher comes to him for help in dealing with a

Holy Deity!!! It is only June and I think I have found my favorite book of the year, fore I don't think anything can come close to the enjoyment I experienced with this book. There are so many thing about this book that put it on the top of my favorite list that it is hard to list them all. It has a wonderful humor aspect, pulling in pop culture references that can lead to a reader laughing out loud for minutes at a time, as well as having an adventurous thrill that makes it so hard to put down. ...more

My favorite genre’ to read is Murder Mysteries, then next would be Paranormal. Ghosts of Demons Past covers both of those and more!

Right from the very first page this books sucks you in and doesn't let you go. Seth is seventeen when he has a substitute teacher in one of his classes and discovers she is the ugliest, scariest demon he’s ever seen. He’s so scared he runs right out of the school. Of course nobody believes him and it sets the stage for pretty much the rest of his life. All of the ch

So words to describe this book are Fantastic, funny and totally gripping. I was totally gripped from the start of this book. Seth Gabriel is a ghost hunter. No one knows he can talk to ghosts but he has made a business out of it by getting rid of ghosts. Business is going well and because of the things he can see, he has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. He gets hired by Courtney Reeves to get rid of a ghost in her house and Evan Gal

Seth Gabriel is a Medium. With the ability to talk to the dead Seth earns a living helping ghosts move on. In order to not seem crazier then what his clients already think, Seth acts how his clients expect….burning sage, lighting candles and using theatrics. However, the reality is, he simply talks to the ghosts, lets them know what’s going on and helps them to move on. Business is slow, but in the span of a couple days he is approached by two different clients. What Seth doesn’t know is that e ...more

I decided to read this book because I became Facebook friends with the author and the description sounded intriguing. Who doesn't like a good ghost story?

From the very beginning I was captivated. Realizing that I was thoroughly enjoying the read, when I got to 48% on my Kindle I found myself hoping that the second half of the book didn't fall flat. It didn't!!

From beginning to end this was a great read, very enjoyable. The main character really carries the story and he has just enough snark to m

I read a LOT of urban fantasy books, and very few of them get five stars from me. However, Ghosts of Demons Past is so well-written and so much fun to read that it easily makes my Top-10 List for the year. I really want to read about Seth Gabriel's continuing adventures and I hope this will become a series!

If you don't fall in love with the characters in this book, there's something wrong with you. Seriously, see a doctor. Seth is a little rough around the edges- OK, a LOT rough- but he's the ki

The paranormal genre isn't my first choice of reading material, but it runs a close second to mystery/police procedurals. With that in mind, the title, cover art and book description caught my interest. At the start, the abundance of adult language and situations made me wonder if I'd enjoy the story. The answer: a resounding 'yes'. In light of who Seth Gabriel is, as well as his background and lifestyle, the inappropriateness is totally appropriate. In fact, it lent credibility to his firsthand ...more

Although this story starts out a little slow and strange, it heats up rather quickly. A well thought out plot and characters strive to make this one entertaining read. As you read, you feel close to the characters, especially Seth. Cause lets face it, we have all felt out of place and like an outcast ourselves, especially in high school.

The ending also leaves you with the feeling that we may be seeing these characters in another book later on. I am hoping so anyway.

I really enjoyed this book! Seth is definitely not what you would expect of a hero- he's a drunk, a mediocre father, and kind of a pervert- but at least he's honest, and he tries to do the right thing when it counts. I'm always up for some supernatural shenanigans, and this book definitely delivered. I thought the story was unique and I liked that the main character is a middle - aged guy because that's a bit out of the norm these days. I am very excited to see where this series is going. Let me just say right now I LOVE MATT SCHIARITI. You sir have turned me on to reading the horror genre. Once again he has written a story that I just didn't want to put down. I had to force myself to stop reading this book so I could get some sleep. I felt every emotion that the characters felt. I laughed, I cried and I trembled in fear. I loved the way the story flowed and sucked me in. Once again I felt like I was actually part of the story. I look forward to reading more of Matt's books. I'm ...more

This book was one I saw recommended on a blog. Up front, I'll say I dislike reading books in which the 'hero' resorts to alcohol to 'resolve' personal issues, but I am glad I overlooked my personal bias to read the book anyway. Absolutely great plot. Yes, Seth is a heavy drinker, and I cringed at all the times he was in the bar lining up shots, but it was a valid side-effect of the events that shaped his life- so, in this case, appropriate. I loved the book (cringing aside) and found it fast-pac ...more

I enjoyed this book very much. Seth, you gotta love him. He is rough around the edges, a bit of a bum but relatable and lovable. Seth is a cleaner of ghosts and things that go bump in the night. Business is slow. He is going through a divorce. He has a 12 year old son and his parenting sills are questionable. Good story line, great characters. Funny at times. Overall a good read. I hope there will be a sequel.

As a fan of the supernatural I found this book very good. And the growing relationship between Seth and Jamie was icing on the cake. Looking forward to more Seth and Jamie ghostwhispering adventures please.

Loved it! This book had it all, and then some! Ghosts, demons, a little horror & suspense, humor and even some romance.
All of the characters were very well written and the story moved along perfectly. I'm hoping to read about more of Seth's "cleaning" adventures in the future!!

When this book starts out, it’s a little vague and I am unsure of which direction it will go in; also Seth (whose POV we are treated to) isn’t very likable. I keep an open mind but am not totally impressed, initially. There is a lot of dialogue and it holds promise so I keep on and it picks up before I’ve reached the 10% mark.

It remains intriguing enough that I get pretty into it but there times I find the book to be unbelievable or inconsistent: Seth is a ghost hunter to can actually see the sp
As I was finishing Ghosts of Demons Past, I came to the conclusion that there really should be a book two. It's a very good addition to the urban fantasy genre, and I'm hoping that there will be another installment. I think there was enough that wasn't detailed in this book which offers up the possibility of more books. The character of Sim is one such example. There's a bit of a mystery surrounding him, but he did grab my attention and I'd love to learn more about him in a future book if this t ...more

When an ill-fated joint writing venture went horribly awry, mild mannered engineer Matt Schiariti decided to strike out on his own. The result? Selling his short story 'Hollow' to Padwolf Publishing for inclusion in the recently published anthology, 'Apocalypse 13' in late 2012. Gaining confidence from seeing his first ever published story in print, he plowed on and dove into the self-publishing p ...more
