Sometimes I think when I tell folks "I love romance" they don't really understand what I'm talking about. Romance is not sex. Romance is not marriage. For me, romance is love. True, everlasting, heroic love. It's also a moment in time, the touch of a hand, the scent of lilacs, a tiny bouquet of violets fit for a fairy queen...

Romance is about hope and courage and strength and loyalty. It's about simple acts of friendship. It's about forgiveness. It's about sacrifice.

Aire is about Annalisia, a Princess who has a special gift. When someone kidnaps Annalisia's servant, she disguises herself as "Anna", she leaves the palace, determined to find her servant and along the way she finds romance!

I absolutely LOVED this book, I couldn't put it down! It was well written, the characters were well thought out, the Italian setting is beautiful, the pacing is perfect, and the use of Italian words throughout the novel was a

So. What can I say that doesn't sound trite or cliché? We'll see.

Well, speaking of clichés, here are the few that are in Aire:

1) Princess

2) Commoner

3) Arranged marriage

4) Magic

5) Romance

Sounds like a recipe for boredom and dullness, no? And yet, despite all that, Ms. Goldfinch has penned a very engaging read.

Our princess, Annalisa, is locked into a marriage to a neighbouring prince, whom she hasn't ever met, much less is in lo
Aire was brilliant, just brilliant. It captured such a wealth of emotions, such depth of feeling! The characters were superb, the setting lush, the plot riveting. Harrowing, heart-wrenching, and yet delicious, this is not a tale I will soon forget!

Within the beautiful, royal palace, we are introduced to Princess Annalisia, a legendary seer, destined to spend her life hiding her gift and calling a man she doesn't love 'husband'. But she goes along with her grandmother, the queen's, doings; as do

Aire by Lena Goldfinch is a historical fantasy that stars a young Italian princess named Anna, who has the power to see the future. This is a power she keeps hidden from everyone because others might not understand. Her hand in marriage is given to a suitor who she doesn't love, and in a burst of rebellion, she flees the dance that would announce this betrothal. As she flees, her boat is caught by mercenaries who mistake her cl

Aire is a fantasy/romance/suspense story about Seer-Principessa Annalisa who embarks on a quest to find Mira, her friend and maidservant, who was kidnapped after being mistaken as the princess. She gains the help of her loyal friend, Ilan, and Mira's brother, Jovanni. She doesn't reveal her true identity to Jovanni, so for the first time in her life she feels like a normal girl in his presence. Jovanni, on the other hand, is keeping secrets of his own. He's a

After reading the synopsis I immediately fell in love with premise of Aire. I love fantasy and anything that has a hint of historical fiction/mythological writing, so this being based on ancient Italy/Turkey sounded right up my alley. Aire definitely lived up to my expectations. I loved the palace life mixed with suspense and fantasy that was contained in this story. I also fell

Aire was an all-around easy, enchanting tale of a princess with curious powers, and a commoner with a secret; the two would have never met under normal circumstances, but a tragic occurrence brings them together, as they embark on a journey filled with magic, intrigue, action, and romance. Definitely suited for younger YA readers looking for a quality fantasy romance novel (as it was also a clean read). I will surely be on the lookout for mo

I started reading this book not knowing what to expect (being saying that a lot recently), except that it was fantasy, because I’m familiar with Lena’s work/genre.

The plot was pleasantly complex in its own way, but mildly so. Characterization was in-depth, and the setting was sensationally alluring. But what I loved most was the dialogue. It was intricately woven with words of English and Italian. You wouldn’t have to understand Italian to get the meaning, or the objective. Lena tucked them in,

Firstly i would like to thank Lena Goldfinch for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book had many things I like in a book such as: Princesses, Magic, Forbidden Love, Arranged Marriage Complications, Heroes, Close Friendships and Multiple Narrators. However unfortunately there were also several things that i hate in a book such as: Questions being left unanswered (i could forgive this if i knew there were more books in the series however it doesnt seem that way), Vagueness
Looking to escape into the magical realm of princesses, commoners, villains and political machinations, and, oh yes, forbidden love? Aire by Lena Goldfinch will carry you back to a time when appearances must be kept and alliances through marriage were a common and expected duty of a royal house. In a world where a princess can never be too cautious, often the object of a kidnapping or worse, young Anna is far too headstrong, bold and free-spirited for her own good, often daydreaming of finding h ...more

After reading and enjoying another one of this author's books last year I was very excited when I got the chance to review this book in audio format. The story was very smart, entertaining, suspenseful, romantic and just all around delightful! The narrator really brought the characters to life and helped to pull me even deeper into the story world! This novel is a well written, sweet romance with a good dose of peril, intrigue, and fantasy. The Italian setting and use of Italian words throughout is a nice addition; the dialogue enhances the feel of their world. Their world came to life and allowed the reader to learn new foreign words. For most, a dictionary isn't needed, since context brings meaning.
The characters are likable, except for the villain of course. Annalisia is kind and unspoiled. Even her sisters are well-behaved; her grandm

Lena Goldfinch has a wonderful talent for creating vivid, beautifully imagined fantasy worlds. I loved the sweetness of her novella, The Language of Souls, and I love the added "epic" quality to this longer fantasy romance. Aire is an exciting story that expounds on the ideas of sacrificial love and the existence of realities beyond the common.

I had the pleasure and honor of being a beta reader for this story, and it was a treat to see it grow and to fall in love with it a little bit at a time.

1. Anna was beautifully done character, and leapt on the page.

2. Jovanni was such a good, good, good character.

3. Lots of shipping went on here. Tons and tons and tons.

4. This story kept me on my toes

5. The world-building was original and fresh, with splashes of Italian culture.

6. Though this was a romance, it was also an adventure. There were kidnappings and all sorts of fun fantasy elements.

7. Jovanni is cute when he's jealous.

8. This was such a rich and well-told story.

My opinion:

I'd like to start this by saying that some of the problems I had with this book are probably the reason why some others really liked it. One could say that I knew what I was getting into, but I really kind of didn't. I have read some high fantasies and historical romances, or whatever this was, in the past. But very, very few. And by that I mean that I can count them with my two h
I was lucky enough to receive this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This story is set in a land that seems a cross between a combination of several of our historical periods and a completely created magical land. The fact that much of it seems to be Italian helps the reader to relate, yet it isn't so grounded in known culture that we can't accept the magic and the areas that deviate from what we know in our world.

The history of Isalla is complicated and like all sovereign countries, heavily

Even fantasies, with their creative, innovative and novel stories can become predictable. So reading one that has interesting or surprising details makes the read really fun.

I loved this book. It was a sweet romance with a bit of action and the mystery of who the enemy was. I even wondered who Anna would marry in the end, after all, there was Jovanni, her best friend, and the young man her grandmother arranged for her to marry; all three would have been good husbands and lovers if she had given them a chance.

I also enjoyed the fantasy aspect. Anna's visions and Jovanni's shape-shifting between man and hawk made for an interesting story. Their unique abilities helpe

A Destined Seer and Sentinel Shapeshifter combined with a Forbidden Love between a Princess and a Commoner - I'm a sucker for clean romance and first love. And I love the idea of a seer and sentinel shapeshifter (falcon). It was a refreshing concept. Their love was simple and sweet.
