Kerrianne Coombes is the youngest of three siblings. Born in England in 19 *Cough cough*
Books became very important to her at a very early age. Having a book obsessed mum, made finding all the greats, like Emma and Pride and Prejudice–and, of course, Anne of Green Gables–natural for her to read. The entire idea of being whipped into a new world, a new life was greatly appealing to a little girl who had far too much imagination to know what to do with.
Being the kid with braces, frizzy hair and awkward laugh, Kerrianne found she could be who she wanted to be as soon as she picked up a book.
After leaving school, she worked a groom with horses. Later, the lure of working in a dry, warm office yanked her away from the farms and the open air. But she never found a job that suited her as well as being a groom.
Though writing was something Kerrianne only started seriously after she had her babies, she has always written little stories and little poems–these were written more as a therapy when she needed to clear her mind, and usually, they were written at the office when she was supposed to be doing something mundane.
While an avid lover of the paranormal genre, I would not describe myself as a fan of fairy tales, so Rapunzel was an exciting and pleasant surprise! The author captured my attention from the very first chapter, with her easy, fluid style of writing and the gripping and emotional story content. I am always a sucker for a tortured soul and Blane most definitely falls into this category. With his fractured past, heartbreaking guilt and lack of self-worth, he is determined to honour a death bed promise, and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. Blane is a Rain Demon and unprepared for the impact one innocent, fragile and brutalised woman will have upon his frozen heart, as he strives to complete his quest. Chloe, a Fey Princess, has been imprisoned for longer than she can remember, and her agonised soul wants nothing more than an end to her tormented suffering and to escape the horrors imposed on her by a power hungry demon king. Death would be welcomed, but the appearance of Blane provides Chloe with a modicum of hope she has never before allowed. In the midst of a hasty escape, sparks fly and passion ignites between this traumatised couple; but can they find the strength and the will to rise above adversity and claim a bond that is rightfully theirs, or will our troubled demon succumb to his inner fears and deny his ability to love. Unfortunately, I read this book first in the Demon Tales series, but I can assure you I will now be going back to read Beauty and the Beast (book 1), Cinderella (book 2) and Snow White; whom I met in Rapunzel and she ROCKS!! (book 3). I received this book as a gift for an honest review.
When I started this book, I thought it was going to be about a prince saving Rapunzel from a bad group of demons. I was totally wrong, it is a lot more than that. The universe of fairy tales is recreated to carry bad and good demon characters. Rapunzel and the other girls are not just your average damsels in distress, they have their own particular way of seeing the world. This was a quick and easy read and it was really enjoyable. I liked how events came one after the others and how the plot unfolded and twisted. I was still really annoyed at the two main characters never understanding each other and about Blane not "getting over it" talk about guilt and low self esteem, but it was still what made the story so realistic.
The only think that brought the book a bit down for me was the swearing. I mean some swearing is ok, but I didn't see the 20th century "christian" type of swearing really fitting the story with demons and castles, the vocabulary used seemed a little bit out of place.
I would recommend this book to any fan of a good romance and adventure and of course fairy tales.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Let me just start off by saying this has become one of my favorite books. I in fact read it twice and have also purchased the rest of Kerrianne's Demon Tales books. This author's writing now has a special place in my heart. Kerrianne Coombes does not just put words on paper but gives such detail in her writing that you feel as if you can see and feel what is happening in the book. Blane is not your usual hero. He is a demon that is not only strong and incredibly sexy, but has a heart gold. Blane doesn't want a mate. Mostly because he feels he is unworthy of one. After making a promise to his dying mother, he is captured during his quest to keep his promise. He is thrown in a tower with Chloe. A weak and battered woman. Or so he thought. Chloe has been locked in the tower for fifteen years and has been tortured beyond compare. At first glance she seems a like a weak woman unworthy to have a man such as Blane love her. When in fact, she is the bravest heroine I have come to read about. Having special powers have put her in the hands of the enemy who use her for their evil ways and to kill and conquer other kingdoms. Blane and Chloe's attraction to each other are more than they can handle but both need in their own way. They both need love and a sense of belonging, but how is Blane supposed to accept Chloe as his mate when he has made promises that he made as a boy? Having spent most of his life trying to fulfill his mother's last wishes, Blane must figure out how to both keep his promise to his mother and keep Chloe safe and have her as his mate. Rapunzel was an amazing story of love, heartache, and acceptance. It was filled with tons of action and very steamy love scenes. A real page turner. I could not put it down. I can't wait to get started on the rest of the demon tales in the series. If you loved fairy tales as a kid you will love this adult version of Rapunzel and how Ms.Coombe's transformed it into her own magical world that is sure to capture everyone's heart. A definite to have on your reading shelf.
This is the fourth book in the Demon Tales series by Ms Coombes, about demons loaded with sex appeal, brawn, and especially, heart - something one wouldn't associate with a demon.
Blane cannot forgive himself for the death of his family, especially his mother. Chloe, an iron fey, feels she isn't worthy of anyone's love, thinking herself weak. Both feel unworthy of finding happiness, both drawn together by circumstances.
Both entwined by destiny.
Ms Coombes as always has a unique way of retelling classical fairy tales. She uses these tales as the backbone of her stories but gives it a twist - something that we wouldn't expect. Who would have thought that Chloe's hair was made of iron? Reading the fairy tale, we knew that the prince was able to climb up to Rapunzel's tower because of her hair. Ms Coombes takes it further in Chloe and Blane's story, giving it a delightful twist.
I liked the way Chloe developed into the strong woman she was meant to be. By giving herself up to free Blane, she became the woman worthy to be Blane's mate. Strong, loving, loyal, and true. It was also a refreshing twist to read Chloe rescuing Blane instead of the other way around. In a fairy tale, Blane would have rescued Chloe. But this isn't a fairy tale.
This is a tale that shows that even a demon has a heart and deserve to find their happy ever after.
Lucee Lovett’s review of Repunzel by Kerrianne Coombes. Rapunzel by Kerrianne Coombes is not like any fairy tale I remember. It’s so much more. I was expecting to escape into that fantasy world of ‘once upon a time’ a derivative to the theme. How wrong was I? This fantasy story is an erotic adventure filled with mystical creatures that are attractive, well some of them anyway, and interesting. It begins with an adventure that takes you through the transformation of a girl/woman who was tripped and imprisoned in a tower. Okay so that’s like the fairy tale but that’s where the similarity ends. Alright she also has long flowing red hair but there are no more comparisons after that. Wait they is also a really hunk of a male who saves her. However in this version of Rapunzel she grows into a force to be reckoned with. She overcome personal conflict and sacrifice. She steps up to the play when needed. Interestingly enough she becomes great friend with Snow White. I bet that’s got you intrigued how did Snow White end up in a story with Rapunzel, (read the book and find out). This version of Rapunzel is definitely a version for adults only and is a remarkable variation to a story known by most. A must read for lovers of romantic adventure type fairy tales with an adult theme. A stimulating and provocative read.
This was a splurg purchase since I have been in a book reading slump and thought something fast and entertaining would be a catalyst. This was a fun and interesting read. I really enjoyed it, had wonderful elements of growth, love and acceptance. The main male character Blane was swoon worthy and had a depth to him that was surprising. While Chloe was an unexpected character that you really root for in the end.
My only critism and its really not a huge critisim was the way they spoke, I am not sure if this book is set in an alternate reality or if it is set in medival times but they spoke with current verbage and slang. However, that being said it actually adds to the book and characters. Giving it a modern feel without making it seem trit and out of place.
Blane has a real potty mouth but in the end even that was indearing, show that he was a rough around the edges type of character.
Really like this read! However, there is a heat warning of 3 or 4 so be forwarned. Also the language was wrough but if the 'F' bomb doesn't bother you then the language should upset you.
Great read, my first by this author and I will try some more of her stuff.
Wow is all I can say. This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions from the first page . Blane is I. Hot demon bent on the last relic from his mothers dying words . Chloe a little iron fairy who can read metal are thrown together in a tower . They are thrown together and as their escape . They fight feelings and demons . Blane pushes her away because she is is mate . This makes Chloe stronger as she fights . This is a great paranormal romance with a fairy take feel to it . The rollercoaster of emotion you feel . At times you want to cheer for them and other times tpyou want to slap both of them upside the head because they are so stubborn . I recommend this read to anyone who likes romance , sword fighting and the damsel in distress that comes back to kick some ass . Kerrianne Coombs rocked it , so check it out
This wasn't the type of book I normally read, but I must say I absolutely loved it. Blane was one of the best characters I've ever read about. The way Mrs. Coombes weaved his physical strength into a web of inner turmoil was breathtaking. I felt every bit of his agony. Chloe was came off as a bit clueless at times, but given her life and what she had been through, it was understandable. The way her strength broke through throughout the story had me cheering her on. This book completely blew my mind. I laughed, cried, and got really freaking mad at times. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves flawed heroes and heroines. It was emotionally draining yet fulfilling at the same time. You must read this story. I for one am going to read the whole series.
This book was so awesome! A bit dark but that's exactly what I've been searching for lately. I was a little bit annoyed with how faint hearted the h was at times, but it seemed that the H agreed with me :P I also understand why she was so faint hearted at those moments but it didn't stop me from wanting to shake her!
Spoiler alert for those of you that need to know if there are certain scenes in books-
P.S. the kindle addition is currently free on amazon! If you don't have a kindle, download it to the cloud reader and read it on your computer via amazon cloud :P
Rapunzel is book four in this series, but I had no problem following the storyline, It can definitely be read as a stand alone. I loved Rapunzel! The characters were wonderful and very emotionally diverse. Chloe is an unbelievably strong heroine, who's destined mate mistakes her quiet strength for weakness. Blane is physically strong, but has a past that has damaged his sense of self worth. Watching these two discover each other and the healing power of love made for a wonderful read. I laughed, I cried and I cringed. A powerful, fast paced, and highly sensuous read. I highly recommend Rapunzel, Demon Tale 4, and I promise you I will be reading the rest of this series!
I was torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars, then opted for 4 since it did hold my interest and I read it in one sitting. I enjoyed the characters and truly felt the instant attraction between the hero and heroine. The types of characters were out of my normal scope of reading but I'm glad I gave this book a chance. There is some minor editing issues as well as phrases that were continuously repeated, which caused me to pause and really consider finishing the book. I think more meat could have been put into the character development and relationship, but overall it was a good read. I'd read more from this author.
I was provided a copy of this book by the author for an honest review and I loved it. I had read another of the Demon Tales series and was hopeful this one would be good as well. It was fantastic. The characters were addictive, I could not stop reading. I loved Chloe and her determination. I just had to read it all the way through and cheer her on! I would defintely recommend this book to my friends and reading buddies it was fantastic!
Kerrianne Coombes gives us a new spin on the common fairytale, Rapunzel, with this story. Full of magic, demons, and fairies, this book brings "fairytale" to a whole new level. Blane is part Rain Demon, meaning he has this strange urge to help people. After the brutal death of his family and a promise to his mother to find a magical key, Blane lives a life full of adventure and danger. That all gets put on hold the moment he gets caught by the Vulcan Demons and meets Chloe, a Fey with LONG iron hair. The love they have for each other grows as they fight to escape the Vulcans' tyrant reign.
I loved Coombes' idea for this story. It was new and refreshing. I loved the princess fairytales as a child (and I still secretly do), so this new adult version was sexy and memorable. I also enjoyed Chloe starting the story as emotionally and physically weak but developing into a strong, independent female heroine. Her character really took form and grew as you read.
The reason for the three star rating is because I was a bit distracted reading Rapunzel. There were many repetitive words/phrases and mechanical/grammatical errors, and those types of things interrupt my reading flow. They made me put down this book a few times and slowed down my reading pace. My biggest issue was the use of words like "literally" and "clearly." For example, sentences would read "He literally did this" or "He was clearly doing this." It was as if the author was trying to convince the reader of what was happening. It made the narrator feel unreliable, and there were many times I questioned the truth of what I was reading because of those unclear words. Even though the plot was strong and the relationship between the characters were believable, the errors hindered the story and made it difficult for me to get through.
Rapunzel (Demon Tale #4) is a twist on the common fairytale and worth reading. It was interesting to see the similarities and differences between the classic tale and this new version. Read Rapunzel if you enjoy fairytale spinoffs with magic, adventure, and surprises (and if you don't have an overactive inner editor like me).
Pretty much everything about this book I didn't like: the alpha male who acted like an selfish animal; the weak, whiny, helpless female who kept apologizing; the overuse of the f-word; etc. etc. Ugh. I gave up after they had sex and he immediately started swearing at her afterwards. No thank you.
