Snippets of Jake’s violent and forgotten childhood start to surface his conscious mind and his perfect life begins to break apart before his very own eyes. He has to unlock his memories and search deep within the bowels of his vast ancestral home if he is to ever save his wife and tame the brutal destiny he himself had unleashed.
The Blake Mistake is all about insecurities, unconditional love and that desperate run against the flowing sands of time.
A – The Blake books are supernatural thrillers with a dash of romance. I try to mould that moral fibre inside the heart of all my novels: -The sanctity of human life is highlighted in The Blake Soul -The susceptible young mind lost to alcohol and drugs features in The Blake Curse -The detrimental effect of childhood psychological trauma is depicted in The Blake Mistake. -The Blake Legacy: A Fracture in Time deals with peer pressure, intimidation and that desperate search for an exquisite type of pure love, a love untainted by monetary gains or sexual intentions, a love for the sake of love itself. I try to raise awareness...whether I succeed to do this in all my novels remains debatable, I guess, but the intention is there.
Q - What order should I read the books in?
A – Each book in the Blake series could be read as a stand-alone. Chronologically they run in the following sequence:
- The Blake Soul - The Blake Curse - The Blake Mistake - The Blake Legacy: A Fracture in Time
Q - What else have you written?
A - Week of Lies is a revenge thriller and romance set in London and it spans a fateful week of lies and deceit. The opening chapter takes us to New Year’s Day where Beth Banks wakes up to find her father dead in their multimillion pound house in London. It appears to be a suicide, but Beth has her doubts. She looks back on her previous week, her introduction into the cryptic world of Rob Menezes, the righteous law graduate desperately seeking a living, the man she has grown to love and trust despite his many facets. She sets out in search of the truth and she uncovers a dark secret that could radically change her life.
The Blake Mistake has so much going on, I’m trying to think how I will describe it to you. I C Camilleri writes of the paranormal, romance, suspense, horror, murders, a serial killer, insecurity and jealousy and how the characters do there best to survive and find a happy ending.
Right off the bat, I C Camilleri surprised me. What? I should have known it would not be that simple. So many sub plots, my head would spin at times, being torn first one way and then another.
By seeing the future, Ben had interfered before and changed Jake’s destiny. Jake in turn was there to save Ben. What if meddling is a Mistake? A minor shift could make a massive change. What would the repercussions be? And would they come back to bite them.
The story just keeps getting better and better. I C Camilleri kept me guessing. I liked that I had to slow down and take in all she was telling me.
Awesome, how she made Jake’s world. I cannot fathom it. How does I C Camilleri come up with these scenarios? It’s a miracle that Jake ended up such a good man. His biggest downfall is jealousy. It is a ferocious beast that dominates his relationship with Emma. Between his jealousy and her insecurity, will their love for each other be enough to keep them together?
As I neared the end, my emotions ran AMOK. I felt a sense of urgency. I felt deep sorrow and am awed at I C Camilleri’s ability to take me to such a dark place. The scariest monsters are the human kind.
My eyes are watering and my hands are getting sweaty. Good thing I’m reading my Kindle and not a paperback. At least, I don’t think it will short circuit.
I received this book from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

The Blake Mistake is the first book I have read by I. C. Camilleri although it is actually the third book in the Blake series. I enjoyed it as a standalone even though there are references to events that have obviously taken place in the earlier books which left me with some unanswered questions. That said The Blake Mistake is a strangely compelling read that hooks you in and keeps you wanting to know how events are going to unfold. The book is a paranormal, romantic mystery and centres on the Blake family. In particular, Ben Blake who is psychic and his sister Emma, who is married to the very troubled cardiac surgeon, Jake Snell who also happens to be the Earl of Yorkley and an amnesiac.
Ben Blake works as an agent for the government and uses his psychic powers to prevent terrorist attacks. The problem is by changing the future Ben unwittingly brings trouble for his nearest and dearest, in particular Emma. Jake has no memory of his childhood and when Emma finds an old diary she reads it and is able to gain some insight into his traumatic past, which in turn causes problems for her in the present.
All of these events collide and cause a race against time mystery which is actually very exciting. Camilleri somehow manages to make the incredible seem credible and I found myself completely caught up in the story. She creates a mystery with so many layers that by the end I was suspecting almost every character in the book of wrong doing.
I have to admit the genre is not my usual preference – it has lots of paranormal occurrences and quite a lot of erotica, which I found a little bit sexist but I’m sure lots of readers will enjoy. If you like a story that keeps you guessing right until the very end then you should give this one a try.
Wow! This book was brilliant! I have read the first two in the Blake series and loved them. This one, however, really blew me away, as there were so many twists and turns, and I was completely surprised by how it ended. It had a great ending! This is the type of novel that keeps you glued to the pages so that you try to read it quickly, to find out how it plays out, but when you get to the end, you are bummed out because it is over. I have read a lot of thrillers, it is the main genre I read, and The Blake Mistake is now up in my Top 5 Favourites. Like the other novels in the series, it has a complex, multi-layered plot, and the author very cleverly keeps it on track perfectly, so that it is a gripping, smooth read. Although all three books have the same base characters, each story is unique, fresh and very original. After reading the first two, The Blake Curse and The Blake Soul, when you read this one, you will have already gotten to know the characters but we find out a lot more about their personalities and the dynamics of the relationships between them. Some characters I originally liked or were my favourites in the beginning, were not, by the time I finished reading, as I saw how each one changed and evolved as they dealt with certain situations. The characters were very relate-able, as I saw how they experienced the many dilemmas they faced, from their different points of view, in a realistic manner. It is a 5+ Star read! Sending all three books to someone would make a great gift.
This is the third book in the series and I would thoroughly recommend that you read them all. If you have, then the characters by now will have become very familiar yet each book brings a completely fresh story to the reader. Naturally, to ensure that it can be read as a standalone there is a fair amount of backfilling, yet the writer is so skilled at portraying twists and turns with yet more twists and turns to follow that you barely notice. Personally, I think the series gets better and better and the idea of twisting the future by our actions is very clever as just when you think you are familiar with the scenario, there is a complete scene shift. Some of the twists you will no doubt figure out but there will still be plenty that will leave you shocked. A fascinating read and an original plot.
One of the things that amazed me the most about this book was the sheer number of twists that the author was able to pull off without me figuring out any of them. This book is very intense – a little dark for my tastes at times, but that's just me – and very well-written. The characters are multi-layered with a rich and fascinating family history. This is the third book in a series, but it's the only one I've read so far. I could tell that it was probably part of a series as I read it, but it works perfectly well as a standalone and wrapped up loose ends without annoying cliffhangers. Brilliant writing and a very entertaining read. Highly recommended!
I'm speechless. This is so fast, so intense, so intricate with the past and present beautifully woven together. I loved the Blake soul, the first in the trilogy, but The Blake Curse and then this, The Blake Mistake are in a class of their own. Two of the best books I've read this year which I will happily reread again in the future. I hope that there will be more in the series.
The Blake Soul is excellent....The Blake Curse exceeds expectations...BUT The Blake Mistake tops them all. The intricate and original plots, twists and turns keep you biting your nails till the very end and there is never a clue to the identity of the killer. It is also a story of unconditional love. Highly addictive. I would really love to see this trilogy in the cinema one day.
A brilliant psychological thriller, combining mystery and the paranormal while the protagonist makes amends for the hereditary sins of an aristocratic family. But not all can be mended and the past arrives seeking vengeance.
This is the first I have read in the series. I don't feel like I missed a beat by not having read the first two. But, I look forward to reading them as well.
Emma knows her husband best. While others.fight to keep them apart secrets surface and lies are confronted. Jake is made to look like a crazy killer but his childhood friend Samantha proves different. This action ,mystery will keep you on edge and your heart is a vice.
Ben Blake has a talent that can occasionaly help in his job as an intelligence operative. When he forsees a terrorist attack he asks his friend, brother in law and former bad boy Jake Snell to help him prevent it. However Jake is starting to behave oddly, including having periods where he is not aware of what he has done. Could the suppressed memories of his traumatic upbringing be the cause? Meanwhile his wife (and Ben's sister) Emma is delving into Jake's family history. Maybe the secrets of the past are best left alone.
Camilleri aims high with this book - and delivers. It is a complex mix of whodunnit, psychological thriller, paranormal thriller and romance. The plot moves forward dragging the reader with it, the threads and lives of the characters spiralling around the central theme of Jake's past and how it is impacting on the present. There are a number of twists and turns, some as surprising to the reader as to the characters.
The characters themselves are well drawn, benefitting from having developed over previous books (which don't need to have been read to enjoy this). The way the relationships between them change and develop as suspicions arise and certain events occur is excellent, although sometimes frustrating as the reader sees the story from all their viewpoints so can see that sometimes there has just been a misunderstanding or that if something was said everything would be different.
The first third of the book is a little slow as the characters are described and the situation is set up but this allows the rest to move under it's own terrible momentum towards the climax.
Overall a book worth reading and it certainly holds the attention once it gets going.
I have read books 1 and 2 in the Blake series but what transpires in The Blake Mistake is just Wow.
Ben is still working for the British Intelligence where his photographic memory and ability to see in the future are great assets, not to forget his good looks as well as his acting ability.
Jake is happily married to Emma, and is now a successful Surgeon in one of the renowned hospital. When Ben has a vision about a forthcoming disaster, he seeks Jake's assistance because his ability analyse problems and come up with brilliant solutions. They work together to stop this terrible tragedy but in the process create an imbalance which in turn has a negative effect on their own lives.
Jake's past comes to light and at the same time a serial killer who targets young prostitutes is on the loose. This brings about discord within the families and trust becomes a very big issue. I was surprised at the reactions of some of the main characters but this only makes this story even more interesting. As for the murderer, there are indications as to who he might be even when the wrong character becomes the main suspect. The revelation of the true identity of the murderer comes as a great surprise.
It's an original romance suspense paranormal thriller which brings out all types of emotions and I felt all these emotions along with the characters. I don't think I can say much more except that it's brilliantly written and that there isn't any boring moment.
I received this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review and I would like to say a big thank you to her for a truely intriguing and fascinating story.
While I did not enjoy this novel, I do appreciate that it was well crafted. The author tied up all loose ends and gave the reader a cohesive tale that flowed well and read fast.
