Tangled Fates

Rate this book
“SR44 is no more.”

With those words, Cohen of the Six Saviors feels like his whole world is unraveling at the seams. Consumed by sadness, anger, and guilt for breaking his mating vows to his beloved SR44ian mate, Cohen makes a sacrificial oath to honor her in death.

Annis, a female SR44 Warrior, was sent to Earth right before SR44 was destroyed. But her new human body has restrictions—during the day she is blind, but once the sun goes down, her vision returns. As she struggles to find her place among the Six Saviors, she finds herself the target for Cohen’s unwarranted anger. An explosive argument between them ensues, changing their relationship forever.

Blake, a half-human half-Colonist, has finally discovered a place he calls home. As he and Annis grow closer, his feelings for her can’t be ignored, and he must figure out a way to stay true to his heart or risk losing her forever.

As the Six Saviors are forced into the underbelly of humanity to catch a Colonist’s offspring, and danger from The Platoon threatens to rip the Six Saviors apart, Cohen, Annis, and Blake must face the ghosts of their pasts and try to sort out the tangled web of their lives.

Carly...what have you done to me ?????

REVIEW: Um, okay. The blurb is very explicit and detailed and relays a good portion of the premise but the emotional and heartbreaking guilt that threatens to destroy two of the Six Saviors is anything but simple. And for those who have not read my previous reviews, I will repeat the background information.

Background: 6 saviors warriors from planet SR44: Rayner, Hudson, Noah, Cohen, Jovan & Talin. The warriors were sent to earth over 212 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. The Colonists, as they were soon called, made their way to Earth, took the human body form, mated with the females and populated the earth with Colonist DNA. The savior warriors are part of the elite military from planet SR44, commissioned to remove the Colonists from Earth, but as the Colonists continued to breed, so too did their offspring and the number of inhabitants on earth with Colonist DNA is unknown. The Six Saviors have been unsuccessful in their attempts to locate all of the original Colonists and anyone with Colonist DNA.

Tangled Fates is not only the title but is the psychological and emotional fall out in the aftermath of the destruction of planet SR44 and the ensuing guilt that burdens the survivors-guilt that has been placed upon the warriors by themselves as well as the few who literally fell to earth to keep their species alive. The fate of all those who remain has been threatened by a rogue group of warriors, known as the Platoon, hell-bent on revenge against the original warriors sent to earth over two hundred years ago.

Believing and hoping the Six Saviors had eradicated all threats against the SR44ians, The Platoon make it their mission to destroy anyone with a history of evil, and in doing so may have inadvertently revealed the existence of the SR44 to the human population of Earth. Not only does The Platoon hope to remove all traces of The Colonists but they want the Six Saviors to pay for the destruction of their planet.

Tangled Fates is a darker storyline and one that drew on the reader’s emotions and personal entanglement with the series characters and premise. We watch as two of their own sit on the precipice of self-destruction knowing that in truth one or both may not return. With the death of a mate, sorrow and grief become the survivor’s companion, but when the death of one’s mate destroys the soul and the very essence of the man, the journey will be difficult for those left behind.

Carly has written a storyline where grief and sorrow manifest themselves in different ways and at times it was difficult to accept the behavior of the bereaved. Everyone handles death in a different way and Tangled Fates is a storyline that will touch many readers who have grown to love the Six Saviors of SR44.

What a great edition to the series! When I reviewed Destiny's Shift, the fourth book in this series, I stated that I felt the edition of new characters and a few twists really breathed new life into these books. That breath of fresh air still smells as sweet in this book as we get glimpses of our old favorite characters but really get to know the newer ones. Of course now the Saviors have more than Colonists to worry about as the government and The Platoon are now also an issue, presenting danger from all sides, which makes more room for twists and turns. This book definitely has plenty of them, some that will have you in tears.

As a hero Cohen not only stacks up against the other Saviors, he kind of surpasses them a bit. For the longest Noah and Hudson were my favorites but Cohen might have just secured his place as favorite. I might need to reread the other books before I make up my mind :). I mean, what's not to love about a broken hero with a bad attitude. I don't know, for some reason I found Cohen's nasty attitude (he is a n SR44 male without his mate after all) to be incredibly sexy. Seriously, there must be some kind of instinct in women to want to fix the broken guy because our girl Annis is drawn to him too.

Speaking of Annis.... All I can say about this character is: YES! She's a warrior like the others and she doesn't take any crap. She's blind during the day but doesn't let it bother her or rule her life. And when Cohen crosses the line, she is ready to yank him right back over and put him in his place. I loved their dynamic and the sexual tension that hummed throughout the book as they both wrestled with feelings of desire and dislike for one another.

As a side note, I'll also say that as a black woman who is an avid reader of this series, I was loving the strong black heroine and the interracial love. I'd love to see more of that throughout this series (hint, hint Ms. Fall!)

Just as I did with the last book, I really loved Blake's character. I like that he's like the others, but also a bit different in his own right. I loved his chemistry with ANnis as much as I liked Cohen's chemistry with Annis and found myself really torn when it came to the love triangle aspect. All I can say is, I'm ready to read a book about my boy Blake and really get to know him better.

The ending ... the ending ... I know some of the other reviews might spoil it but I won't. Just prepared for an emotional loss, one I know fans of the series will rail at, but one that also made perfect sense. In the end, it was fitting and very poignant and made this book and series all the better for having made such a ballsy move. Well done!

Three is a crowd

I enjoyed Cohen's story . It was sad and hard to read at some points, but an incredibly interesting story .
Cohen had been dealing with so much in about a years time. He found out that his planet has been destroyed . His lovern, or mate and everything he knew and loved is gone . ......
His days and nights are full of anguish. And he didn't know what to do with himself.
Annis is one of a group of SR44 people that survived the planets devastation. She is a warrior, and is finding her place in the household. Except that The Warrior Cohen looks at her as though he hates her. And she doesn't understand why ....
These two have a lot of emotional baggage , but also a connection, and it was a great read as we follow them in their journey.

I loved this new installment of the Six Saviors series. It was nice to get to know Cohen better as he has been in the previous books but only in a supporting role. It was well written and flowed excellently, always keeping your interest. I won't give away anything but towards the end a BIG thing happens to one of the characters (not a good big thing either!) but I can see why it was done and why that characters fate differed from the fate of Cohen.

The only thing I will say as a negative is that I wish it could have been longer. But that might just be me wanting to know more about this awesome world!

If you haven't read any of the series then I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes this genre.

Bring on the next installment!

The way the platoon acts seems to completely contradict the previous world building in this series. In the first few books the author states that males from SR44 treat females well. the males of the platoon treat them horribly.

Also, this book should come with a rape trigger warning. The heroine suffered this off page before the story begins, but she remembers it in some detail in one section.

I'm glad Cohen and Annis got a HEA, but the inconsistencies in the world-building are seriously throwing me out of the story.

This was a very enjoyable book.

From beginning to end this book kept me entertained. It moved along at a good pace from start to finish. Had interesting characters and an interesting story.

Carly Fall is an extremely talented author who has written a tale that makes you want more. Once I started reading I could not stop and finished the book in one sitting. I am wanting to know more about these characters and look forward to the next in the series.

An enjoyable read.

Now that was definitely the most difficult and a bit fucked up situation ever, and on both side. One who can t let go of his guilt and throw all his negativity to the one he wants, the other deeply traumatised, and blind during the day. Talk about complications!! But amazingly, everything somehow falls back together. Now the question is: what s next?

If there were a way to give a book more than five stars I would definitely do it for this one. The triangle between Cohen, Annis, and Blake is great. Throw in Nico and The Platoon and all I can say is wow! The twist with Talin was a shock. Definitely didn't see that coming. I can't wait for the next book to come out! Keep 'em coming Carly!!

I just loved "Reborn," Hudson's story, so much that I tend to expect too much with each new Six Saviors installment. I did cry where I was supposed to and I love Nico, one of the brand new characters. I hope I don't build him up too much in my mind so that I spoil his story for myself...lol.
