A Kansas City, Missouri native, Betty Ost-Everley has always known she was a creative. As someone who had been drawn to the arts, she studied music, photography and graphic arts.
A natural extension of that is her writing, where she utilizes her artist's ear and eye. "In a small house with two little children and a 40 pound dog, I couldn't put up an easel and leave it. Instead, I learned to paint with words. I found that I could use my imagination and invoke the reader's imagination as well."
While she had published a few trade articles early in her professional career as an administrative assistant, her real publishing break came in 2008 after joining the Heart of America Christian Writers' Network. Not only did she receive additional writing tips at the monthly meetings, Ost-Everley took full advantage of publishing opportunities that came from the group as well as their annual writers' conference. Now internationally published in various compilations, Ost-Everley looks forward to pursuing writing full-time after retirement in a few years.
I discovered this little gem inside Cracker Barrel, and because I adore my cat, I bought it. I'm so glad I did.
It's a quick read but offers a lot of inspirational nuggets of wisdom that made me watch my cat more. There is humor, nostalgia, warmth, and even some sadness within the pages, but the author puts it all together into a small book about how we can learn a lot from our cats.
This is the type of book that you can read a page and gain something for the day. With scripture, quotes from other cat lovers and novelists, Betty Ost-Everley reminds us all why we love cats, how we should love God, and how much He loves us.
I felt like this book was made for me. I mean, it had cats on every single page, interlaced with inspiring quotes and Bible verses. Like, who does this? I want to invite Betty Ost-Everley over for a large cup of tea to thank her for her thoughtfulness and creativity. And I want her to be my friend.
This was so enjoyable, I read it all in the same day. I'm not sure how one's supposed to properly read a book of quotes, but that's okay. I was feverishly delving into the Word while simultaneously getting my cat fix. What can be better than that?
This book would be a lot better in my opinion if there were a variety of adorable cat pictures rather than just a few that are repeated consistently throughout the book.
