سلسلۂ غم

Rate this book
This is a short collection of Urdu verse in 'takhmees' form composed by the modern Urdu poet, Syed Muhammad Amir Imam (Hurr). The poet's nom de plume, Hurr, means free in Arabic. He has other works to his credit, some published but a large part yet to come into print. The present work gives a taste of the poet's ability to adapt to the very different styles of the Urdu poets whose works he chose to perform 'takhmees' on - a difficult art form requiring a complete match of language and thought of the poet on whose work 'takhmees' is attempted and those of the poet performing this attempt.

The Urdu poets of interest here are Mirza Asadullah Khan (Ghalib), Mirza Salaamat Ali (Dabeer), Meer Babar Ali (Anees), Syed Imdad Imam (Asar), Maharaja Mahmudabad (Mohib), Raja Mahmudabad (Mahbuub), Maharajkumar Mahmudabad (Hubb).

This work also includes an excerpt on 'khirad' (wisdom) from one of Hurr's longer works in Urdu. He also holds an M.A. from the University of Cambridge, England, U.K. having done both the Moral Sciences (philosophy, logic, psychology) tripos and the Oriental Sciences (Classical Arabic and Persian) tripos, giving his works an extra depth, both in language and thought.
