Although I only got to finish 80% of this book, the stories were great. They had this metaphysical and existential element. They are slow paced, written in elegant prose, and describe the inner lives of individuals.

Am I in luck that I read this after "The Apollo Centennial" anthology? How unlucky I am that I chose not to lock myself in that little (a book of seven, eight stories) yet immense Brillantes anthology? Even the well-known "Distance to Andromeda," frustrated me here, not even flustered me in a nice way. The characters here are almost dead, and the author is pretending to unveil us thickness (via the sheer amount of words) when all he's doing is an enumeration of useless facades. ...more
