This is not a very useful book.
The mark of a useful "For Dummies" book is that it includes a lot of detail about how to do something. This book is more a description of the different kinds of music you can make, and then a long collection of product reviews for different software packages for music production. I don't really expect a book on composing digital music to start out with music theory at the beginning, and end with a lot of miscellaneous details on marketing and copyright; most of the Dummies books I've bought stay true to the topic on the cover. Also, so many of the software packages out there come packaged with voices and sound collections, but if you're looking for something very fundamental, something that covers digital synthesis at the most basic level, this book doesn't have it. There was nothing on sound creation, nothing on attack/sustain/decay/release audio envelopes or other purely fundamental issues of digital synthesis.
If you need help picking a software and hardware suite, this book is probably fine. If you want to learn how to use them, well... this book won't be of much use.

It was not as expected, but it is a very good book. This is a book basically a textbook for Sibelius, a digital composing and notation software. It has a very good part about the different software related to music composition which helps me a lot to find the right software for me.
