The sisters of Sea Haven, bound by the heart and the magical power of the elements, return in this soul-stirring new novel from Christine Feehan, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Spirit Bound...
For as far back as she can remember, Airiana Ridell has always been aware of her extraordinary gift. She can intuit revealing and illuminating 'patterns' in the air around her-whether in a spray of mist, in billowing clouds, or in the dense swirls of an impenetrable fog. Her abilities led to her placement in a secret government training facility when she was a child, but everything changed after her mother was murdered.
Airiana fled the program, but she couldn't outrun the desperate members of a shadowy cabal who want her, who need her, who will kill to get her. Kidnapped and held aboard a ship bound for dangerous seas, her only chance for rescue is Maxim Prakenskii. He has his reasons for helping her, but he isn't about to reveal them to Airiana. Not yet. Not as the two are drawn together as moth to flame. Not when there are so many secrets yet untold that could shatter the quaint community of Sea Haven and all who reside there...

IN HER WORDS: I've been a writer all of my life -- it is who I am. I write for myself and always have. The ability to create pictures and emotions with words is such a miracle to me. I read everything; I mean everything! All kinds of books, even encyclopedias. I am fascinated by the written word and I love storytellers. It is a great privilege to be counted one myself. "When a man who has never had anyone finds a woman like you ,Airiana,he can`t help but hold on too tight. How could he not?Losing you would rip out what`s left of my soul-and God help me-there isn`t much left." -Maxim Prakenskii

"Air Bound" is the third instalment in the paranormal "Sisters of the Heart"-series and takes on a more darker journey than the earlier books in the series. But it still has that magic only Christine Feehan delivers through the mix of romance, drama, suspense and action.I love this book, its story and the characters. It was a stunning adventure i will late forget and one i want to join all over again with this amazing hero and heroine!Airiana Ridell gets kidnapped by Maxim Prakenskii who actually tries to help her escape the monsters who wants to use her power for their own despicable benefits. They get stuck on a ship among the dangerous seas and have to work together to find safe heaven for the sake of their love.By the way Christine..pleaseee keep the Prakenskii`s coming, especially future sons of the Prakenskii`s cause that would be so awesome and badass. They always makes my mouth water with the danger and sexiness they bring to the story!
Airiana Ridell are a lovely heroine that becomes the strong confident woman she was supposed to be.When she was young she was in a secret government training facility because of her extraordinary gift with air and can understand patterns in all forms of air.But due to that facility her mother got tortured and found brutally dead by Airiana when she was just a teenager. The guilt has lived inside of her all this years and she finds her past coming back when Maxim kidnaps her to take her to her father who wants to use her gift. But Airiana and Maxim never expected to find instant love between each other,it was so exciting and bittersweet the way they fell madly in love with each other.Airiana saw through the phantom killer-and instead saw the protective, lonely, starving man longing for someone to trust.
[image error] God help me,but i have completely fallen for Maxim Prakenskii!!!Like Airiana he is also bound to the element air but can use his power more confidently than her.He was trained to become a killing machine by the Russia government just like his brothers and have never known what it means to have a family and home ever since he got separeted from his brothers. He had been so busy protecting around him that he had given up on himself.Maxim is one crazy, rough, stubborn and lethal assassin.I loved all his twisted and good sides and fell in love with the hero he becomes-a man totally devoted and obsessed with his beloved Airiana. He was so afraid by the all-consuming and passionate emotions she woke inside of him.He had been empty and cold for so long that it baffled him when Airiana brought warmth and happiness into his dark world. But my darling Maxim...he is a Prakenskii! And a Prakenskii can never turn his back on the love of his life!God i loved this man and i want more of him!
"Air Bound" is a true thrilling adventure that i will late forget since it was such a vivid and cinematic reading experience.I loved the banter between Airiana and Maxim, their connection and their constant desire and care for each other.Reading their every scene was like watching them melt into each other, their love so beautiful that it made me shed some tears!I love that they decide to adopt the four italian siblings who got tortured by those monsters on that ship, and i can easily picture the little Benito as a future hero...his intense anger and hatred reminded me a lot of Maxim and i would love to see Maxim`s and Airiana`s parenting over them!By the way the OLDEST PRAKENSKII BROTHER GOT MENTIONED for the first time and i feel like DYING!Its Viktor Prakenskii and i know he have his book last with Blythe...and i am soooo dying for their story!Lexi and Lissa are indeed suspicious that the remaining Prakenskii`s might be their soulmates and they look damn well afraid of ever meeting them!
Air Bound is the 3rd book in the Sister’s of the Heart s Series by Christine Feehan, of a group of women bound by the magical powers of the elements.
Airiana “Airi” Riddell, gifted with the air element lives in the farm with her sisters after fleeing from a secret government program, when her mother was murdered.
Maxim Prakenskii is an arms dealer, dark and dangerous and kidnaps Airi for a wicked scientist, who wants and needs her for his evil projects.
I liked this book much more than the previous one. Although the whole insta-love between Airi and Maxim was a bit unbelievable, it didn’t detract from me liking them.
Most of the story takes place away from the farm and we get to see some really bad things that humans are capable of doing. Child-trafficking, murder, slavery, abuse and a lot more. We also see that there is good in some people and how far they will put their lives at risk for someone else.
My favorite character was definitely Benito, one of the children that Max and Airi adopt. He was the most endearing and lovable child and he pulled my heartstrings!!!
I am enjoying the character development of the sisters and the Prakenskii brothers and how they find happiness in their lives.
Airiana shrugged. “All of us on the farm have lived with danger. We’re used to it. The thing is, Maxim, I’m only offering once. If you don’t want to be with me, if taking the chance isn’t worth it to you, then you don’t belong with me.”
So, they've known each other like a day when this happened. I'm not even sure a full 24h have passed. Maybe. But I mean really. I understand insta love, but giving ultimatums like these to a person you've only known for one f*cking day is pure stupidity.
I was so disappointed I don't even know where to begin.
The dialogue between the H/H's was ridiculous. Here you have a major assassin born and raised to be vicious and all he can do is spew his emotions over and over. There is very little "toughness" shown for him. The action in the book was completely overshadowed by the two of them CONSTANTLY talking about their feelings. I was so floored over the fact that this assassin did nothing but discuss his feelings that I actually thought about putting the book down and forgetting about it.
What is happening to all my authors...first Ward and now Feehan. Stop writing so many books that you're submitting crap so you can move on to the next one.
I am working my way through a reread to get ready for the next books in the series, and I also just plain love the Prakenskii brothers (they're Russian, enough said!) and the Sisters of the Heart, the found family of women who buy a farm together and are united by personal tragedy and their gifts of power over the elements.
I can easily say this is still my favorite so far (out of the first 3 books), although I loved to the third power Water Bound and I really did enjoy Spirit Bound. I think that this has the best action and the romance between Airiana and Maxim is so natural in its progression. Although they seem to start as enemies, the mutual alliance they found becomes a bond of trust and love.
It hit me hard like for the first time how lethal Maxim is. He doesn't play around! Airiana is sweet, but she has the capability to dive into the fray and do what needs to be done. She's feisty too and she definitely tells Maxim what she thinks. They're such a great couple!
The children are integral to the story and adorable, but it's so awful and heartbreaking what they have experienced. The subject matter here is definitely not for the faint of heart.
I'm super jazzed to finally be able to start reading Earth Bound and excited about Fire Bound coming out in April! I've a feeling that Casmir is like Maxim on steroids.
****************************************************************************** Previous Review I loved this book!
I am seriously in love with the Prakenskiis, and I have to say that Maxim is my favorite now. He's a mad, bad, dangerous man but he loves so good! I had no clue that this tough, lethal man that we met at the beginning of this book could be such a sweet, gentle, loving guy to Airiana. I think that is Feehan magic, how she creates this guys who are lethal and ruthless, but then they are so deeply in love with their heroines, that I end up sighing as I read the book. Now this won't work for some readers, but I am such a sucker for the mix of action and suspense and romance, and Feehan has delivered both in such a delicious combination in this book.
I will confess that she's autobuy for me and I didn't even read the synopsis. I was there because I knew it was a Prakenskii hero. I didn't read the blurb until I opened the book to read it, and I was like, 'cool.' So I didn't have much preconceived notions, but I was just in it for the ride, and what a fun, wonderful ride it was.
Most of the book takes place away from Airiana's sisters, but I didn't mind that. I think that the situation was crafted very well to the lead characters. While somethings will always be the same about Feehan's books (but those things are why I read her), the situation felt different in an appealing way. Maxim is in no way a carbon copy of his brothers. And Airiana is also distinctive from her 'sisters'. Despite her air element, she's actually quite cerebral and far from flighty and hippie-chick, like I was suspecting. I liked the backstory of her life and how it ties into Maxim's story. Airiana is a tough young woman. For such a small, delicate person, she can hold her own and she was quite the action heroine in this book. She's really a very cool, down to earth, mature for her age woman. She gets my seal of approval.
I feel that Feehan does a good job of plotting and tying her stories together. and this fits very cohesively into the series. She makes the idea of the 'Sisters of the Heart' all ending up with Prakenskiis a lot more plausible than one would expect. I'll admit that I am fine with it because I can't get enough of these guys.
I liked that the love scenes come later in the book. Considering how dangerous Airiana and Maxim's situation was, it made a lot more sense. I can't stand when they take an inappropriate 'sex break' in romantic suspense novels. When the the love scenes come, they are blisteringly sexy but also very romantic. Although both are wounded, the 'getting busy' part isn't implausible. the love scenes say so much about the love journey of these two characters. You can see how much Maxim cherishes Airiana and you can also see that Airiana truly trusts Max and gives her heart unreservedly. That makes me sigh happily.
There is a really cool twist in this book that I really liked, and it adds to the believability of Maxim settling into a normal life, which he never had because of his family and their tie to the Russian government. There was some horrible tragedy and wrongness in this book, but I think that Max and Airiana were in exactly the right place at the right time and they will make things right.
I really can't say enough good things about this book. I wanted to read it again right after I finished it. Lately, I've felt less sucked into books, and this book certainly breaks that trend for the better. I rejuvenates my romance novel juices and makes me want to go on a reading tear. I have a need for more high octane romance novel action books like this, with a yummy hero and heroine I really like for this long, hot summer I am facing! Please write the next book soon, Ms. Feehan!
I've been anxiously awaiting this book since the last, Spirit Bound, was released in 2011. I have no idea why Feehan goes so long between releases in this series. She's quick to put out Dark books. I wish she'd focus more here since I feel this is the stronger of the two series.
I absolutely adored the first book, Water Bound, and I had similar happy feelings while reading this one. Airiana and Maxim were a solid couple and the story was fast-paced and exciting. Non-stop action from page one. Though the plot was tense there was a surprising amount of humor. I actually laughed out loud a couple times.
Full review to come at bookbinge.com, but I will say this was a good reminder why I read Feehan. When she hits, she hits big and Air Bound landed out of the park.
I was really kind of disappointed. This book felt... like a forced effort. There was too much formulaic type stuff. Brilliant woman, does not use brain and must be constantly rescued. Tough guy RUSSIAN hero that emotes everywhere and sounds like he's from middle America.
A plot that is pretty thin and predictable; also highly improbable, beyond the normal suspension of disbelief required. Then there was all the crossover from the Drake series and even THOSE characters felt off. (really, like the uber protective Sheriff is going to leave his wife and newborn the next morning??? NOT)
Honestly I was disappointed, to the point where I need to go back and find out, did my tastes just change that much or was this book just not so great?
I found Airiana to be interesting, most especially how she kept complaining about the Prakenskii brothers. I really thought she would fight a relationship when one of the brothers came her way, instead she accepted Maxim without much of a fuss. Airiana seemed to be more upset over her father and what he wanted from her, which was very warranted.
What really saved the book for me was the kids. I loved seeing Airiana and Maxim dealing with the kids and making a decision that those kids would be theirs. I hope in future books we get to see more of the kids.
It's been over a year and I'm still at about 60% through Christine Feehan's first Carpathian novel. That should have been a sign. Sigh. This author doesn't work for me. I'm so dang frustrated because I want her to work.
Prepare for a rantypants rant:
First things first, do not read this as a stand-alone. I'd even suggest reading the Drake Sisters series as well because it's a cross-over. The biggest annoyance of this book was the repetition. You know when you pick up a book in a series and the author really quickly and concisely goes over the previous books? That didn't happen here. Oh, she went over what happened, but it was convoluted and confusing. If you've read all of her other Drake Sisters and the first 2 Sea haven books you will probably get it. Otherwise, prepare for constant reminders about what happened and all of it's confusing. It's like I needed a family tree to keep everyone straight!
Okay, so moving on, basically Airiana is a genius. Not only is she brilliant, she is an air element. She can manipulate the air, she can see patterns in the air, and she can predict things based on the patterns. The air speaks to her. As a child she is recruited to a government school for child prodigies. Her mother is also brilliant, but when Airiana is about 14, her mom starts drinking heavily to quiet her mind. A couple years later, her mother is tortured and killed. Airiana blames herself and refuses to work for the government anymore. They don't release her until she's 20, though. The problem is that everyone wants Airiana's mind.
A Greek billionaire tycoon who runs a motorcycle club (was this a joke?).
Her father.
Our government.
The Russian government.
But now she lives on a farm with her "sisters" (friends she calls sisters of the heart).
This is where the action starts. Airiana is kidnapped, and the man who kidnaps her has better control of the air than she does.
Not only that, but he's a brother of 3 of her sisters' husbands. This series should be called the Prakenskii Brothers rather than Sisters of the Heart.
He's an assassin. He's Russian. He kidnaps the heroine to take to her Russian father whom she's never met. Danger follows everywhere. this seriously sounds like Kresley Cole's The Gamemaker series.
Luckily there are differences, but still...
Airiana as a heroine fell flat for me. She's tiny, like as tall as my 9yr old. I actually have a friend I kept imagining as Airiana, so it was easy to visualize, but Maksim is like 6'5" and huge. At one point, the author describes her chest is at his groin. That's...teeny tiny. He carries her everywhere. She reminds me of a teenager in the way she acts and she's absolutely perfect. Not in a good way. She's able to protect herself against master assassins, she's always saying and doing the right thing, she's beautiful, she's a brilliant genius, she's able to hold it together in their many many many bad situations. I'm in shape, and I'd have trouble doing all they did. Maksim has seen so much and done so much, I can see where he's fascinated by her, but she is so childlike to me, that it's hard to enjoy.
Finally, the part I could not wrap my head around:
If these 2 can manipulate air to the point that Maksim, who has the dimensions of a Brother from Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood (ie he's HUGE!) can hang upside down with the air holding him, or spider crawl on a ceiling, or practically cloak himself from view and become invisible, if they both can call in wind, fog, storms, etc, why can't they breathe underwater? My first thought was to create a bubble of air for Airana. Why can't they move bullet trajectories? Maksim was shot a few times, why couldn't he nudge the bullet a different direction? it's like the air power was only used when it was convenient.
But, it wasn't all bad. Moving on...
The good:
If you're a Feehan fan, this will not disappoint. It's action-packed and full of adventure. The paranormal aspects add a different dimension to the book since it's not paranormal in the sense of vampires, werewolves, witches, etc. The side characters are all well-developed and interesting, the love story was actually pretty good. I'm all for insta-love, so that worked well for me. I loved Maksim's personality and how Airiana was able to make him laugh.
Air Bound is intriguing, and the action doesn't stop. Literally from the first chapter to the last, the suspenseful plot kept my heart pounding.
Airiana has had special gifts, and her gifts are seeing patterns in the air, whether it be clouds or fog, she can manipulate air to suit her needs. When she was fourteen years old, her gifts put her in a government program, one that resulted in the death of her mother. So Airiana flees and runs and finds herself living on a farm with five other women who have suffered as she has, who also have special gifts, and have created a unique sisterhood. One evening a fog rolls in, and she ends up captured and held aboard a ship by Maxim Prakenskii. Maxim Prakenskii, one of the brothers, has his own gifts and they also deal with air patterns just like Airiana. Maxim had been separated from his brothers as a boy, and trained to be a Russian assassin. Maxim is on a mission, to protect Airiana until he can deliver her safely to her father. But soon both Maxim and Airiana are on the run for their lives, danger at every corner, and only together will they be able to survive and have a future...together.
Air Bound is the third book in the sisters of the heart series. I want to say that this series has a warm place in my heart. Every book I have read from this series I have fallen in love with and Air Bound is no different. I have to say that when I had read Jolie's story with Ilya Prakenskii, I was really intrigued with these brothers. And now we get to see all of them get their happy endings. Maxim Prakenskii, is one tough man that you don't want to cross, and he has a protective streak a mile wide especially when it comes to Airiana. Airiana has issues she needs to deal with and has vulnerabilities, but she has incredible inner strength and I loved seeing her come into action and fight by Maxim's side when he needed her to be strong. Max and Airiana are one hell of a pair, and they work in sync with each other, and even though Maxim is like all of the Prakenskii men-Alpha to the extreme, they also have tender soft spots for their women, and even though their lives are in danger Maxim lets Airiana fight with him and it creates a unique twist to the story.
There is such a strong connection between Airiana and Maxim, and I loved every moment. One thing I have loved about this series, is that there is such a perfect balance in her plots, and you never feel unsettled and having a hard time catching up. In Air Bound there is a balance between plot, development of characters, steamy scenes, and those sweet romantic moments you just want to keep in your memory forever. We see a strong focus on the emotional connection between Maxim and Airiana, it makes the other more heated moments, even more sexy and powerful and intense.
I will say that this book may be one of my top favorites from this author. It has such a splendid combination of heated sensuality, action packed scenes, characters to adore, and a plot to mesmerize you until the last page. EXPLOSIVELY BRILLIANT!!!
I liked the humor of Airanne a lot in this book. I really like Max as well. However, the BS with all the 27 year old virginity and still being "intact" is ridiculous and so, so Ugh. just no.
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Vivacious Valkyrie - Marta: *Copy Gifted in Exchange for an Honest Review
Well, this author has taken her readers back to Sea Haven with this her third book in the Sisters of the Heart series and it's a cracker full of non stop action. Fans of this author were probably bitterly disappointed when her series about the Drake sisters drew to a close but Ms Feehan has managed to find equally magical characters living within the towns limits! This book has been much anticipated and yet again readers are set for an enthralling ride.
Airiana has finally found somewhere safe where she feels she belongs. Somehow fate has seen fit to grace her with the love of true friends who will always stand at her side. Airiana has tried to keep a low profile since her mother was brutally murdered and living in Sea Haven has finally given her a home. Airiana has an amazing gift which paints a target on her back but her friends will fight to protect her if that's what's needed and unfortunately that's what's about to happen!
Maxim is one of the much feared Prakenskii brothers, trained from childhood to infiltrate and remove any target. His latest assignment takes him to Sea Haven where he helps kidnap Airiana but Maxim has his own agenda! Taking the troublesome and very stubborn Airiana far away from her home Maxim tries to convince her that he has her safety at heart but what if it's Airianas heart in danger? Airiana has never before met a man quite like Maxim but can she really trust him? He's dangerous and about to put Airiana through more trials then should be humanly possible but together they just might survive. I have been a fan of this author since I first discovered her Dark Carpathian series and love the suspense twist that she's putting on this newer series . I wasn't sure just how she could continue to bring fresh life to Sea Haven but have to admit these characters are just so interesting! Airiana whilst quiet and demure has a wicked sense of humour and her courage is astounding! Not all heroines are kick ass but when called for this strong woman makes a stand . As for the hero Maxim he's a bossy and arrogant type but it certainly works in this story. Emotionally scarred and alone he has had to rely solely on himself and trust does not come easy to him. Reading his journey from automaton to lover was heartwarming. Now I've mentioned the word lover so feel I should broach the sexual content. Ms Feehan always seems to write very sensual stories that can be quite explicit but in this book it feels as if the sex takes a back seat which really works very well. So often various authors play the virgin card and have them literally at it like rabbits and it just doesn't fit! The romance here builds up gradually as the actual plot is much more important (hurray) and indeed when the couple finally get physically close it's not exactly the usual fireworks! Do not misunderstand though there is plenty of heat in this book it's just that the story is chock full of action and really fast paced . There is just so much happening as the author picks up the sex trafficking storyline from previous books and runs with it. Caution though as it's not pleasant. So incredibly strong characters, a storyline that's very emotional , villains who deserve everything that's coming to them and you just know that there's more to come! If I have a gripe it's that it ends quite abruptly but that's just me, no matter how long a book I always want more!
A heroine whose talents everyone wants to possess find safe harbor in the arms of a dangerous, mysterious hero in Air Bound. Christine Feehan’s third Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart book features Airiana Ridell, the air element with a kind heart and a spine of steel and Maxim Prakenskii, a deadly Russian agent with a target on his back.
I enjoy characters who are a mix of strength and vulnerability and Airiana fits the bill perfectly. She’s brilliant – a child prodigy governments would kill to possess. She’s also a powerful air element which makes her a force to be reckoned with. This is balanced by her tender, empathetic heart. Airiana would do anything for those she loves and she loves quickly and easily. Maxim is an air element as well and he and his brothers were taken as children and raised to be weapons. He’s rough, hardened, and completely in over his head with Airiana. He thinks he’s cold as ice but she barrels through all his walls immediately, making him want things like a home and family he wouldn’t let himself dream of. Airiana may be softhearted but she’s no pushover. Their romance is a total whirlwind (pun intended) but it worked for me because of the Prakenskii fated mates bond.
Intertwined with the love story is a whole lot of action as Airiana and Maxim are forced to escape multiple kidnapping attempts and death threats. Air Bound is fairly heavy on the fighting and danger which normally wouldn’t hold my interest but Feehan keeps the pace moving at a quick clip. There’s a lot of ugliness and evil Maxim and Airiana see but it reinforces how urgent it is they fight for good. I won’t spoil anything but there are some supporting characters they pick up along the way who broke my heart and whose interactions with Maxim and Airiana put it back together.
Air Bound can easily be read as a standalone; Feehan gives you enough of a sense of Airiana’s relationship with the women who have become their sisters in order to slide right into the series if you choose to start here. Admittedly my favorite parts of the book were seeing Airiana with her sisters. These six unique, powerful women brought together by loss are what makes this series shine and by the time I finished Air Bound I could not wait to dive into Lexi’s book, Earth Bound.
FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I never much got into the Dark, Carpathian novels though I did read at least one and bits and pieces of at least another.
I've read the other Sisters of the Heart books, any and all of the ones I could get based in the town of Sea Haven. I remembered really liking them. And big thumbs up to having a person with AUTISM as one of the main characters in one of the books (the one with Rikki, can't remember the title). The author knows someone on the spectrum maybe?
I haven't read any in ages but I found out about this one and got it.
I don't know what to say, either this is particularly sappy, corny for a romance novel or I've just developed a very low tolerance. The hero is a loner, yet he won't shut up. So... he's used to being on his own and not communicating to others but suddenly does an about face. I don't buy it. Same thing happens in Earth Bound by Feehan. Super tought guy loner that suddenly is not only talkative but a good communicator.
So much of the book is the hero and heroine talking about their feelings. There are married couples that have been together for decades that haven't talked this much about their feelings. Yet, they don't know each other for more than a few days.
So many bits of dialogue and plot were an issue for me. The one thing that really stuck out was that the heroine goes through multiple traumatic experiences and after only a few days has sex with him, just a day after she's been punched in the face, kicked many times and has bruises from head to toe. The guy is so thoughtful and loving and caring, but sex the day after being beaten?
From all the reviews I'm guessing it's not the book it's me. I didn't find the book entertaining, I found it corny, silly, too unbelievable. There were just some things I couldn't get past.
I think I'll take another long break from romance novels. I'm off to try a Dean Koontz novel.
Revisiting this review after reading Earth Bound it seems like I'm not much of a fan of the Bound series (Earth, Air, Water, etc.). I didn't like Earth Bound either. Again, way too much talking.
This series is fast becoming my favourite of all Christine Feehan's series. I love the story line and all the great action scenes. I especially love the brothers, they're so fun to read about. They're all Alpha's but they have an unexpected sweet side. The only problem I have with these books is that there isn't more scenes where the brothers interact. They haven't seen each other in a long time and I would have liked a scene with them just catching up or even just discussing defence stuff. I'm hoping maybe once all the brothers are there she plans to have like a big character party or something lol. I highly recommend this series! It's really good :)
Another great installment. I love Christine Feehan and she did not disappoint in this book. The Prakenskii brothers are great and I anxiously wait for the next installment of their stories. Max was great and his story lived up to the other brothers. I had been reading other books where I get lost in the action and bored with the dragging of the the plot. This rarely happens when I read a Feehan book and it was so nice to come back to a well written well paced book. Nothing but 5 stars for this one. The only bad note is I want more of the Drakes and the other sisters mentioned in the stories. Keep the family in the center of the books.
Way overboard with this one. Too much killing, too much lovely dovey talk, too much rape, too much. I usually like Christine Feehan, but her books have been getting more and more unrealistic the farther she gets into the series. And this is only the 3rd book! I always hate how quickly they fall in love, even if your meant to be with someone you don't fall in love in a day. Really? Complete rubbish.
Oh, so many developments in this series, more about Theodotus, the guy who created the info that was on the chip of the last book, and Airiana is his daughter, and yeah, this is the first book in the series that doesn't spend all that much time in Sea Haven!
LOTS of action, great romantic suspense! Some parts were heart-breaking, as it deals with the human trafficking of children but the storyline was handled with care and empathy. And, the two main characters were awesome!
Third in the Sisters of the Heart follow-on series and tenth in the overall Sea Haven (Drake Sisters) paranormal romance series revolving around troubled but gifted women who have banded together to support each other.
The couple focus is on Airi and Maxim, and it’s insta-love, awww.
My Take If you must read this, get it from the library. Air Bound is inconsistent. It swings from too simplistic to slightly more realistic. The insta-love is too lame for words; there is nothing believable in their romance, and it's way too convenient.
There are a few good bits in here: a sensible trope that introduces more drama. No, I'm serious. This is a good thing, lol. Airi doesn't want Maxim coming home with her, based on how it will affect the kids. She'd rather not tear at them again and again. Then there's Jonas' stance which is quite commendable, even if he is trying to cause other problems. The air power thing each has is rather fun, and quite useful, and Feehan is quite inventive in the different ways air can be twisted, woven, and blown. I am surprised they don't use it as part of their underwater adventures.
Feehan does a nice job of informing us of Airi's past and her mother with this session between the girls. Maxim's memories of when the Paretskii family was destroyed and the boys taken is also done well. No info dumps here!
The negatives outweigh these positives. Feehan leaps in with no preparation. One minute Lissa is consoling Airi about a nightmare, and the next minute, they're discussing the terrifying possibilities of another Prakenskii brother showing up to marry one of them. Oooh, foretelling, anyone?? A little obvious, perhaps?? Info dumpy as well. And I'm not getting the impression from what they chat about minutes later that they consider the Prakenskiis all that terrifying. Good cook? Great at teaching self-defense? Yep, scary, all right *eye roll*.
WTF? They just get finished talking about the odds of the six of them getting together in one place, and shock!, all of them having an elemental magic! Oh, wow. The next paragraph, Airi is worried that if she were to call Lissa back and tell her about the patterns she sees, that Lissa will think she's nuts. Airi moans on and on wondering if she's going crazy because she sees these patterns. WTF. Again. This is the woman who is supposed to be so frickin' brilliant? She does remember that conversation about elemental gifts, right? The counselor she and the other girls have seen before knows about this. Talk to her. Stop pissing and moaning in my ear! I'm tired of it, and I'm only 31 pages in. Sigh, she is, at least, a fighter. Arghhh! How lame is this! And it's like this throughout the entire story.
It's too easy in some scenes and fraught with danger in others. Maxim is determined not to put his mark on her, so of course he slams it right down. He's denying it right up to the point he marks her, and he keeps denying it. So why mark her? Give me something to believe in here.
Okay, on the one hand, Shackler-Gastros doesn't care what condition she's in as long as she's alive swings over to she is to be in excellent health leave me confused and wondering what else doesn't make any sense. Fortunately, hmmm, or is that unfortunately?, Feehan keeps me confused all the way through. Do they really have worldwide motorcycle gangs? Seems kinda lame that Damon is a neighbor, married to a Drake, in the same field (working on Airi's project!), and yet he's never really spoken to her.
Oh, please. Jonas recognizes Maxim as a Prakenskii and must realize how lethal his brothers are.
Aww, the kids are still so freaked and they come in Maxim and Airi's bedroom. Every night. You can imagine how Maxim is starting to feel.
On the plus side, I can tick off having read this installment. Um, I'm trying to think of more pluses…
Psst, Feehan, you might want to change that Harrison back to Harrington before Jonas finds out.
The Story Airi thinks she’s been going mad for a while now. She sees patterns everywhere, and she can’t stop devouring any book in her path. Hmmm, I can understand that one.
Luckily??, she won't have long to worry as she's been targeted by some very powerful people. The project she worked on as a child has stymied some of the world's greatest minds, and Airi could well be the answer to their problems.
The Characters Airiana "Airi" Riddell was a mathematical child prodigy who was taken in by the government to a special school when she was seven, and today she has nightmares of that day she got home from school. Marina is Airi's brilliant mom struggling to cope with her "gift" with alcohol and loud music. It rarely works. Her true name is Marinochka Venediktov, and she was a student at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Theodotus Solovyov is her father, a great and brilliant physicist in his native Russia. His legal wife, Elena, is a vicious, social-climbing bitch.
Maxim Prakenskii is an arms dealer. He's also Max Walberg. Gavriil Prakenskii is his brother, and he's asked Maxim to help Theodotus. Viktor is their oldest brother.
The farm is… …the girls' refuge. Lissa Pinar is their warrior woman and has tried to teach the girls self-defense moves. Thomas Vincent, a.k.a., Stefan Prakenskii, is an art dealer and married to Judith Henderson (her element is spirit) who has a gallery in town. Levi Hammond is really Lev Prakensii, and he's married to the autistic Rikki, who has power over water. Lexi Thompson, the youngest, has an earth gift and works their greenhouse and manages the farm. Blythe is the oldest of them with a gift for unifying the elements of the others; she's also a Drake cousin.
The Drake sisters are… …the most powerful magical family in Sea Haven and includes Joely Drake is married to Ilya Prakenskii; Sarah Drake is married to Damon Wilder, who works for the Defense Department; Elle Drake is married to Jackson; Sheriff Jonas Harrington is married to Hannah Drake who's in labor; and, Libby Drake and Tyson.
Lucia, Benito, Nicia and Sofia are twins, and Siena are Italian children who were "kidnapped". Shackler-Gratsos' clients will enjoy them very much.
Jorge Estrada is the owner of the resort.
Cyreck is a Greek who works for Evan Shackler-Gratsos, and he wants a piece of Airi. Leone Marciante, a bully and a brutal killer, and Ricco D'Amato were neighbors as children; now they kill together. They're guarding Galati who likes his boys young. Cahill and Lance work the engine room.
On board the slave ship, Prince Saeed is one of the worst perverts. He likes 'em young. His bodyguards include Conley and Shamar Dover, Yosuf and Jamel, and Sasha. On board the submarine, we meet Valentin Blatov, a "friend" of Maxim's. On board the boat, we encounter Feliks and Akim, two of the guards; Gorya is the steward; and, Boris is the first mate.
Uri Sorbacov wants his father's, Kostya's, crimes swept under the table and that includes what was done to the Prakensiis. The disappeared Dennet Laurent is suggested as a possible enemy.
Sea Haven is a small harbor town in California where the Drake sisters and the girls live. Frank Warner is Inez's fiancé.
Debra Jems is the counselor who brought these six gifted and traumatized women together in group therapy. Wanda Payne only moved into the Riddells' neighborhood a few years ago. Westwood was a contact at Airi's boarding school.
The Cover The cover is a blue-green with creams of air currents swirling and whirling with a three-quarter profile of Airi in the upper left corner.
The title is what Airi’s and Maxim's power is and where her heart lies, Air Bound.
I very much enjoy this world and these sisters. This book was a bit different than the first two in that the majority of the novel takes place away from Sea Haven after Airiana was kidnapped. There isn't much time with the whole family together. I did like it though for the most part. The insta-love in this story was a little problematic or me, probably in part because of the circumstances around Airiana and Maxim meeting. He's part of the group kidnapping her, even if he is doing it for the right reasons, she doesn't know him. In most paranormal books, insta-love doesn't bother me too much. The whole fated mates thing is just an accepted part of the tropes of that world. But here it just felt like there wasn't even enough initially to link them as strongly or as quickly as they were. Maxim was so adamantly opposed to considering the option that some of his actions just didn't fit as well as I would have liked even with the insta-love.
This story is action packed from the jump. Most of the story is Airiana and Maxim attempting to escape one or another groups clutches at any given time. I did enjoy their banter with each other and loved that Airiana wasn't a push over. She had guts and balls and wasn't going to back down. She was fighting for herself.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, but I hope this one is back in Sea Haven a bit more. I enjoy when they're all together.
The crazy is strong with this one. A woman who worked for a government program as a genius child is kidnapped by one group but there is an undercover guy (yet another Prakenskii brother) with that group who kidnaps with those guys but for a different purpose - to take her to her long, lost, unknown father who is a Russian physicist who has ulterior motives. There is human trafficking of both women and children, lots of killing aboard a ship, rescuing trafficked children (later to be adopted by the couple), Russian spies, weather weapons, the mystery of who killed her mother, working on the farm in California with her sisters and their now husbands, and probably some stuff I can't even remember. In just one chapter they go from on the evil cargo ship, scuba to a submarine, to a yacht, to Russia all in one night, but I'm pretty sure that trip would take longer? Anyway...this is crazy, over the top with a decent romance mixed in. Embrace the crazy!
It's a nice read, better than Judith's. The heroine Airiana is sweet but a crybaby, sigh. She was annoying me sometimes. Too much to take in this book, reading about the victims of those phedophile's ring made me sick and wanted to chuck my IPad:( But I want to find out how that villain ended, I hope all the horrific things happen to him!! And from the review, I will find out in the latest book in the series, for now I just want to see how they connected in this series.
All the book in the series published now, so yup wanting to read this series again, especially when all my friends here love the final book, which is big sister Blythe's story and... Viktor!:)
Child prostitution being held as carelessly as this? Just for plot points and further the romance?
Nope
No, thank you.
I was willing to overlook the boring, repetitive but that is it. A line had been drawn, I don’t even know where this came from considering the monotony of the other books but I will cut my loses.
WTF.

I like this series but this one was just okay for me. I felt that the super alpha loner Maxim fell for Airiana too quickly. Maybe some of those interminable pages of Maxim snapping necks could have been better used to develop their relationship. I know these are romantic/magical suspense but there was just too much killing and I'm a person who reads military memoirs and military thrillers but this was just too much. I was all "come on, this is like those scenes in Mr and Mrs Smith where the bullets never touch the protagonists but nearly everyone else in the film ends up dead." Action sequences work best if they are built up to and not too many or too long or too unbelievable.
I do like the Prasenskiis but the romance between the two of them was too facile. I think that at least for Airiana at least there was a huge element of destiny. Look here's my predestined Prakenskii brother! I don't need to work on getting to know him and falling in love 'cuz it's already a done deal. It takes away from the reason we read romances when all the questions are answered before the hero and heroine even meet. I know that in a genre romance there is a guaranteed HEA but this was like that guaranty times 9.
