Okay first let me start by saying I haven't finished the book yet. I am approximately 1 hour and six minutes through the audiobook and I'm having a hard time continuing but I will give it a go.
At the moment I'm just having a hard time suspending my disbelief, the circumstances surrounding Annie at the very beginning are just too implausible. The first issue I have is the circumstances surrounding Annie waking up caked in blood and scratches. I find it extremely hard to believe that she does not freak out about this. While I understand this was not the first time this has happened, her attitude is, "oh I must have done it to myself while having my weird nightmares again" and she goes and throws the clothes away. It was just too nonchalant. She was not even the least bit frustrated especially as someone who doesn't have a lot of money, you would think that having to throw away clothes that often would be a bit of a problem. But that's just me being picky.
No my bigger problem came in with a court subpoena which she received. The fact that she got it and immediately went to sleep made no since to me. If I had just been served, headache or not I wouldn't be able to sleep until I knew what the court wanted with me. When she does read the summons, it does not even allude to the reason of why she is being summoned, the parties involved or a court case. Even more mysteriously the summons is supposed to be executed within a matter of hours. To me this is BEYOND unbelievable, and it has made me roll my eyes a number of times.
So Annie does show for this subpoena and ends up being bound when she awakes. The person who is holding her lets her call her parents, and somehow being bound with people she doesn't know or what the want from her, she decides to tell her parents that everything is alright, no there is no need to call the cops. REALLY?! Speaker phone or not she should be freaking out and if she and her family have code words to scare potential dates (her dad asking about having a gun on her) surely they must have some code for "yes please call the cops some crazy person has me handcuffed." But no she's cool. Totally.
Seriously I'm just having a hard time relating to such blatant stupidity or even reactions that are completely implausible. I'm going to keep reading since the book has such a good rating. My hope is that it does get better.

Sorry couldn't finish it. The writing wasn't bad I just couldn't relate to Annie's immediate acceptance of her circumstances. The confrontation (or lack thereof) with her parents regarding the origins of her birth was the final straw for me, I'm afraid.

This book had so many issues that I don't know where to begin...
bad writing, an annoying main character who behaves unbelievably and really stupidly, ridiculous situations (and I'm not even referring to the vampires, demons and elves), and to top it all off: a terrible audiobook narrator.
