Painter and sculptor Frederic, Lord Leighton is one of the foremost artists of the Victorian classical school. His

masterpieces featuring mythological subjects are thought to

be the inspiration behind the nineteenth-century craze for all

things Greek. This monograph includes more than one

hundred beautiful reproductions of Leighton's work along with

an exploration of the role that classicism played in his

paintings. In addition to his art, the book examines the

architectural wonders of Leighton House, the artist's opulent

Victorian residence in London.

This wasn't the ideal biography, as it was a catalog for a show in London. It had a great deal of thick, incomprehensible art criticism for the text. However, I read enough about his life to get the general idea. I also would love to visit Leighton House in London.
