A collection of articles that were printed in Velonews. Riders training training and learning from each other centered around a mythical shop that fixes there bikes, lets them hang around in smelly bike shorts, and even sponsors their rides. My favorite is Otis who refuses to use his brakes. In many places that would not matter but on a tandem in the coastal mountains it is every stokers nightmare. Makes me remember The Magic Spoke where all the guys would hang out with Sally while she build up their wheels.
I grew up racing in the 80's and this all rang amazingly true for me. I laughed my ass off. Unfortunately, it also pointed out how things are NOT like this anymore... which explains why I don't enjoy riding in quite the same way as then...
In the nightmare that is 2020 this was a refreshing read. The stories transported me to what seemed like a simpler time while still seeming relevant. A reminder of why bikes are fun. I'm ISO of part #2.
