Required reading for flutists. Not sure how I missed it over the years. A quick read with interesting anecdotes about the music community in the 60's and 70's in particular.

This book captures the "joie de verve" that Rampal expresses in his love for life, the flute,
food and friends. He recounts the lessons learned from his flute-playing father, dodging the German military machine with his flute performances, his extensive career in elevating the flute as a solo instrument and navigating the world with other famous contemporary musicians.
He was very warm, talented , fun-loving and vibrant. An enjoyable read!

This is the kind of book that inevitably gets one thinking of French words: bonhomie bon vivant, debonair...
A gentle promenade through a time and a world that doesn't exist anymore, with one of the best musicians who has ever breathed, who just happened to also be a pretty nice guy.
