The Other Room: Kim Triedman

Can two people live in the same world, know that they are both there living within the parameters of their home, marriage and go about their daily lives yet remain invisible to each other? When a child is taken from your life do you ever recover? Claudia and Josef deal with the death of their daughter Lily in different ways. Some find comfort in each other while others like Claudia and Josef become distant, cold and pretend that life is the same yet their directions a

The Other Room by Kim Triedman is an unsettling look at how the loss of a child impacts not only a couple, but their extended families. Claudia and Josef’s daughter Lily died when she was only 1, suffocating in her parents’ bed. The couple, who live in suburban New York, had a strong marriage before Lily’s death, but during the intervening three years have spiraled away from each other. Josef longs to connect with Claudia, but is shut out

This was an easy to love, yet emotionally taxing novel. Imagine if your own life had been ripped apart by the worst possible tragedy, the loss of your still-quite-young child. How would you cope? What would you do to get through your every day tasks and do more than simply exist? In "the Other Room," award winning poet and author Kim Triedman explores the answers to this question--and she does it well.

This is not a book that I want to rush right back into and read a second time. That however, w

Written in language both lyrical and inevitable, Kim Triedman’s debut novel The Other Room reads with the grace of classic storytelling. A young marriage unraveling. Passion fractured by grief. Unfolding intimacies of mind and body. All told with insight and a great delicacy even as Triedman's imagery strikes to the core: think of the embroidery of the scarlet letter, the insistence of truth. Claudia and her husband Josef could be the neighbors next door or the friends of friends, their story on ...more

I had enormous hopes for this book because I enjoy the author's blog. A lot. I read the book on a Kindle and could not believe how many typos and other errors it contained. Wondering if the hard copy was more closely edited. To be honest, I'm not sure what the book is about. I found the format extremely confusing. The several loose ends that are left untied at the book's end left me more annoyed than curious.

I could feel the author trying. I could tell that she'd read a lot of other books and w

Kim Triedman’s The Other Room, is a beautifully written, evocative story of loss, grief and the tenacity of love. The tragic circumstances of a baby’s death forever alters the lives of both the parents and their extended family, each one struggling to cope in their own way. A difficult topic told with sensitivity and depth of emotion conveyed through luminous, delicate prose which carries the reader along through the couple’s heart-rending journey toward healing. Triedman’s voice is jewel-toned; ...more

I enjoyed the story telling, can't say I enjoyed the premise nor the destruction of a marriage from both parties, they just didn't know how to leave each other without destroying themselves first. It was sad but it told a story of depression and u accepting of truth by love if you can believe it. By one person keeping the truth from another it festered to the dissolving of the marriage, the only person who won here was the therapist. Who the husband had every reason to be jealous of.

Book was so good I couldn't put it down. Although it was slow at times, it was a true depiction of a mothers loss and the toll it took on her marriage--eventually her falling in love with her psychiatrist. All the while, most things were left unsaid but we all knew where everyone's hearts were.

Harrowing account of the impact of a child's death on the child's extended family. Beautifully written, deeply empathetic and emotionally true.

I didn't start writing creatively until I was nearly 40, and then it was fast and furious! This past year (2013) I've had three books published -- one novel and two poetry collections. My first novel, "The Other Room," released with Owl Canyon Press in October. My first full-length poetry collection, "Plum(b)," came out in March with Main Street Rag Press. And my second poetry collection, "Hadesto ...more
