FYI: I grade Christmas books on a curve.

Some may say that the first week of November is too early to read a Christmas book.

Those people are WRONG!

Merry Ex Mas is just as sugary sweet, corny and lighthearted as you would expect. If you've ever watched a Hallmark Christmas movie than you know what I'm talking about. In my everyday life I prefer darker books and movies filled with death and sadness but at Christmastime, give me all that awful predictable sweet garbage. Sheila Roberts is in the upp

1) Ok, so Cass, with the daughter getting married, surprise, 3 weeks to plan! First, tell your daughter that with 3 weeks to plan, THERE WILL BE COMPROMISES, and also the budget isn't what it could be because THREE WEEKS TO PLAN. Second, slap your bratty daughter across the face the first time she complains that you can't make a wedding appear out of your ass. Third, if you can't afford a wedding and your evil rich ex-husband can, then FREAKING TALK TO HIM and don't bitch both when he doesn't an ...more

I have not read the first Icicle Falls book yet but it is not stop me from reading this one nor did I feel lost. As with the other two books I have read of Sheila's so far I enjoyed this one as well. There were times I did not want to put it down, times I got mad at a character because they would not wake-up so to speak, and even found myself smiling at something that happened in the story. Sheila has a way a writing that you feel at home in the town and with the characters she is writing about ...more

If you love small town America, especially at Christmas, you'll truly love reading Merry Ex-Mas. Set in the fictional town of Icicle Falls, this story follows 3 women and their interactions with Ex-husbands during the Christmas season. Cass is the town baker and she is planning her daughters Christmas wedding, baking her wedding cake and housing her Ex-husband and his new young bride because all the hotels are booked. Ahhh! I wanted a warm fuzzy Christmas comfort read. Merry Ex-Mas was not it. It was a bit depressing, really. It was my first from Roberts and while I didn't hate it I really didn't love it either.

The Gist: A group of girlfriends who have been unlucky in love are having to deal with their ex-s. One ex coming back for their daughter's wedding (with new wife in tow), one ex wanting a second chance, and a yo

Imagine spending the festive holiday season with someone you despise – or at least thought you despised – you Ex-husband. Ummm, not so fun. That is what Cass Wilkes, Charlene Albach and Ella O’Brien find themselves dealing with this season. Each woman’s story is very different, however, and their close friendship is a soothing and healing balm as each works through their personal demons to find that light at the end of the dying, dead Christmas tree tunnel.

Sheila Roberts has long since been one

Icicle Falls, Washington, is home to three divorced women; talented strong women in their own right. They've all been hurt by their ex-husbands but are now moving on. Well, for the most part moving on.

Ella, who was sure her husband Jake was cheating on her, jumped into divorcing him. He's still living in their house for financial reasons. He's hoping to make his big break into Nashville with his songwriting. Ella's sure she just wants their house to sell so they can move on. She's even starting

I love the people in Icicle Falls. The book was a fast paced and enjoyable read. It had a few twists and turns in it that I hadn't expected. I loved the video on UTube and I can relate to Jake's problems. I loved the ending and can't wait for spring for the next book in the series. Thanks again Sheila for a wonderful book.
This is an amazing book. One that you will want to read every Christmas. Sheila has a way of telling it like it is. She will make you laugh and make you cry. You can never go w

Loved the setting of the story, that was about it. My extreme dislike of Dani the young bride to be, put me off the whole book. Her mother Cass, just seemed like way to much of a doormat for her bratty daughter.

4.5! Ohh, so close to a 5 star!

Two things that threw it off. It was almost perfect.

For three women in Icicle Falls, the holiday season isn't exactly starting out with a strong dose of holiday cheer and love. Cass' Thanksgiving starts with her daughter's announcement that she is engaged and planning to have her wedding on Christmas Day. Dani's hastened nuptials mean that guests may not find accommodations in the small town, and the last thing Cass wants is to have her ex-husband and his new bimbo wife staying at her home. Charley has put the pieces of her life back together aft ...more

I enjoyed it more than the 1st book in the series. I did find Danni, the bride to be a bit on the demanding side and I felt there were a few too many storylines going on. But I did like most of it and I do plan to continue with the series.

I wouldn't call this a romance. It was filled with depressing relationships. I didn't like any of the characters.

The minute I read the title of the book, I knew it had to be a great book. Merry Ex-Mas? I wasn’t disappointed. Having long been a fan of Ms. Roberts, I expected no less than a great story and she delivered it - on a Christmas Platter.

“Once in a while, if a woman is really lucky, the perfect day she envisioned turns out to be just that.”

What I liked about the book? I loved the town’s name – Icicle Falls. And, just as you’d expect, the places in the town follow suit, Gingerbread Haus Bakery, Ze

"Christmas in Icicle Falls... Between Yuletide traditions, winter sports and mistletoe hanging everywhere, Christmas is the best time of year in Icicle Falls, Washington. But this year it's not so merry-for three of its residents, anyway.

I chose this book because I have enjoyed Shelia Roberts in the past and this was a Christmas book, but it had too many negative characters for me to really enjoy it. The book centers around a group of women friends. Cass is long divorced, but forced to deal with her ex because their daughter is suddenly getting married. Charley is recently divorced, but her ex suddenly wants her back, and Ella is also recently divorced, but living in the same house with her ex until they can sell it. There was w ...more

What a hoot of a read! I found myself giggling throughout as Ella finally figured out what her mom REALLY was. Thank you, Jake, for writing and YouTubing that song about moms-in-law. You got it right: marry one and get another in the bargain.

Charlie and her ex, Richard, were a cautionary tale. I'm guessing too many people could exchange places with her and know EXACTLY what a slime he was.

Then there was Cass, who had to put up with her ex-in-laws who insist on attending daughter, Dani's, wedding

Merry Ex-Mas was the first book I have ever read by Sheila Roberts. From other reviews I have read, this will probably be my last. Three different stories and characters all connected in one novel. Too confusing, and I felt that none of the characters were fully developed. Plus, they were annoying! However, I did love the Christmas theme. I think reading the first book in the series before this one might have helped me.

This was a pretty good read. The only comment that I would make is that there were so many characters; I couldn't keep track of who was who and who they belonged with. But don't let that keep you from reading it. I love that I picked this book out to read during the Christmas season!

Blah, very predictable! The characters are extremely hard to relate to and they are annoying!!!! Only reason I gave 2 stars is because of Christmas timing!

Eh. Portrayed a nasty sterotype of divorced women. Not everyone who is divorced is a bitter shrew; but these women were. Egads.

Put together 3 best friends, Cass Wilkes the owner of a bakery, Charlene "Charlie" Albach a restaurant owner, and Ella O'Brien, a boutique owner, in the small town of Icicle Falls with their 3 ex-husbands and the result is rollicking hilarity with a touch of romance. Add a trophy wife and her naughty dog that belong to one ex, an ex with a hidden agenda, an ex who doesn't want to be an ex, a mother-in-law who doesn't mind her business, and a daughter who decides she wants a wedding at Christmas ...more

Merry Ex-Mas by Shelia Roberts wasn't my favorite tale. It was more heartbreaking than the previous story. It was about broken relationships. Some were fixable while others were not. Even though some things couldn't be fixed the theme of counting one's blessings was huge. A mother is thankful for her kids even though she didn't have a love in life. Couples facing dilemmas and having to make decisions was believable. The way it was told felt real. It was more like real-life than a fictional tale ...more

I just love Ella and Jake's love story, sharing a home with you ex is so romance and I was in tears over Ella and Jack's picture perfect dream ending. I love how Cass Wilkes came to realize that she had a loving family all along and made peace with her ex and his new wife. This book made me want to find out what next for the girl's of Icicles Falls

Great holiday book

Three storylines in one book gives the reader their money's worth. I especially liked the way the author developed the characters and made them look within themselves to see where they each contributed to their own problems. The way each story was wrapped up was very satisfying.

Back to Icicle Falls for Christmas time as we meet a few other couples and a load of mixed messages, questionable motives, helpful friends and unhelpful relatives! Just more fun in this small town - light reading for pleasure. And do look up the youtube video of Merry Christmas Mama!!

Great stories

I enjoyed getting to know the characters better. I wasn't sure if I would like it since it didn't sound like what I would normally read. I liked going between the three stories. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
