Deacon McTaggart is back! Thanks to the efforts of Deacon, the nephew of Avalon’s greatest hero, Evon McTaggart, the Avalonian village of Fen Glennan has been saved and relocated to Earth to escape from Avalon’s eminent destruction. But with the rest of Avalon still in grave peril, Deacon must return there in an effort to evacuate the entire world. Armed with the Vamprace, a parasitic andsentient crystalline gauntlet, Deacon and his allies, the half giantess Inanna, Daniel Goodman the ‘Shaper’, Dio the Hellhound, and the tempestuous faerie Aika, along with a new and unexpected companion embark on a newquest to free the Faeries, the only ones able to open the Sidhes, the gateways between the two worlds. Not helping the situation is the Vamprace itself, revealing its own agenda of power and dominance. At first Deacon resists its blood thirst, but is soon coerced into believing that without its power, his life, his friends lives, and all of Avalon, will be lost. And to make matters even worse, the Vamprace isn’t the only entity vying to control and corrupt Deacon…
I absolutely loved Exodus! It had my attention from the first few pages. It was very well written, Osborne did a terrific job of keeping this reader intrigued! I was able to picture everything in my mind as it played out in the book. My favorite part was the battle scenes.. EPIC! I can not sit here and write this review without giving away any spoilers. It was just that good! I am waiting anxiously for another installment!
This is the second book in a series of 4, the first being Epic - Legacy, which I previously reviewed.
Evon McTaggart has gone, his place taken by his nephew Deacon. Deacon had arrived from America and found himself thrown into a world he knew nothing about, battling to find a way back to his uncle's house in Scotland, making both friends and enemies along the way.
Deacon returned from Avalon to Abaddon, or Earth, with some 'refugees' from the other world. He soon realises that he must return to Avalon in order to free the other inhabitants before Avalon falls, destroyed by the hand of Ubaru'ud.
Deacon returns to Avalon, not really knowing how he is going to accomplish his mission, but he has some help in the form of his companions - Daniel, Inanna, Dio, Tejai and Aika.
Together they battle many foes, freeing many more on the way. Back on Earth those who remain have their own battles to fight as they struggle to keep Fen Evon safe for Deacon's eventual return.
During the journey Deacon meets more of the creatures and beings residing in Avalon. Some he finds friendly, but others are far less keen on his quest and try to stop him. He also has to battle with his own personal demons, fighting him from within, which cause his mood to change dramatically on more than one occasion.
Can Deacon safely accomplish what he has been tasked with? Can he safeguard the lives of his travel companions, and those of the Avalonians he needs to save? Can he win the battle going on inside his own head and body? What lies ahead for Avalon, Abaddon and the residents of both?
The author again has written a great fantasy tale, an excellent sequel to Epic - Legacy I feel. The story grips you and takes you deep within Avalon itself. I am excited about where he is going to take the characters I have come to love and root for.
****SPOILERS!! IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOOK 1 (Epic: Legacy) DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!!****
Deacon McTaggart is back and getting into more trouble and pissing more people off! As you know, Deacon is now in possession of the Vamprace that his uncle Evon had that helped him through battle. Deacon has decided that he is going to finish what was started after bringing the inhabitants of Fen Glannan from Avalon to Earth. He is going back to Avalon to free the rest of Avalon before it is torn in two. He sets off with the help of Daniel, Inny, Aika and an unlikely ally, Tejai, a female Elfkin. He must find the fairies and free them so that the Sidhe's can be opened for the Avalonians.
Again, no issues with this book with the exception of a possible formatting issue. In this book, some of the words here and there were either run together or had a space in between letters where there shouldn't be one. Other than that, I had nothing that distracted me from reading the story. I didn't want it to end and I can't wait for book 3, because it is again, a cliffhanger. If you've read the first book, which I'm sure you have, then there really is nothing else for me to say. You already know what I'm talking about!
It started off good but slowed down to a crawl in the middle then picked back up again and held my interest until the end. This one was not as great as the first book in the series. It was also riddled with formatting errors such as words mashed together, apostrophe was replaced with quotes, and too much use of quotes to emphasize words which I found very distracting when trying to read this book. All of them were very frequent throughout the book. It did improve somewhat in the last part of the book which is probably why reading it was less tedious and more enjoyable. The auhor assured me that the book will be getting an overhaul which it desperately needs! I consider it a good continuation of the story from the first book, but it would be much more enjoyable without the distracting errors.
This is the second book in the EPIC Series; EPIC: Exodus. Justin Osborne has outdone himself with the imagery of Avalon and the many characters that live there. The main characters; Deacon, Innie, Daniel, Dio, Aika and Tejai are so well defined, that I know exactly what they look like!
The moment I opened this book it took off right where Legacy left off. Deacon McTaggart's journey to save the people of Analon takes him on the ride of his life. Finding out about his father and his mother and where he came from, meeting the most interesting rabbits and of course the vampires!
This a fanastic book for all ages and I truly enjoyed seeing the little moral aspects thrown in now and then. You don't see that to often!
My only question now is where is the next book in the series!!!
Picking up where book 1 left off, Deacon must now save the inhabitants of Avalon. Their is something for everyone in here Trulls, dragons, vampires, hellhounds, gods, faeries just to name a few. Justin has outdone himself with this one. His characters continue to grow and evolve.
This a fantastic book for all ages. I look forward to reading more of this series and can't wait for Epic: Reunification (book 3) to come out. Hopefully Justin doesn't make us wait to long for it.
Would have loved to give this a higher rating but the edition I read had several formatting and editing errors that bogged down an otherwise enjoyable story. Perhaps a new, revised edition could solve this.
