3.5 stars!

I love Victoria Vane's writing and have enjoyed a couple of her books in the past, so I was excited when I was approved for a galley of this book.

I still liked this book and enjoyed it for the most part. I loved Wade and the fact that the story was set in Montana. Vane's vivid description of the state was one of the things that I enjoyed. I haven't been to Montana but her writing made it seem like I was there breathing in the crisp Montana air.

My problem with book, which really put a dent on my enjoyment was the heroine Nikki. I just couldn't connect with her. Her stubbornness, her independence, her complete disregard for Wade's feeling and her judgmental attitude really rubbed me wrong. I get that her heart has been broken in the past but I felt she was just being difficult and obtuse. Even when her sister pointed out her faulty logic, she had the gall to get mad at Wade when he didn't mope around and wait for her but moved to another city instead. I mean, duh, the guy practically begged you to give him a chance and you just left him.

And she didn't even grovel. Okay. She did drive through the snow but I'm an equal opportunity grovel lover. I love it when the hero messes up and grovels for the heroine. In the same manner, I fully expect my heroines to grovel when they mess up. She didn't, IMO.

Still, the sensuality and the Vane's writing is enough to make this an enjoyable read for me.

Maybe it's my mood, maybe it's the pacing of this book, but unfortunately it's not holding my attention. Am I a big fan of western romances? Not in particular, but I'm not so obtuse to avoid them altogether. I guess it depends on the writing and the hero/cowboy's characterization. Wade was alright, but didn't quite warrant my attention. Things moved a little slowly for me and that's not to say I was expecting non-stop action. I wasn't actually, but even in a slow moving story I need aspects of it to keep me holding on, and to my regret this book couldn't do that.

With the most sincere respect to Victoria Vane, I appreciate the arc, thank you for the opportunity. This has gotten wonderful reviews so I urge anyone intrigued by the synopsis to pick it up, it just didn't work for me.

What worked
Kathleen says: I got a kick out of the way these two met and what they first thought about each other. I thought how Nikki and Wade met up the second time around was SO DARN CUTE!
WADE! I loved that he was such a gentleman.
The whole darn story line! I thought it was very entertaining from the beginning to the very end. I also loved that we got to meet Wade’s family and also Nikki’s sister. This added a lot to the overall story line.

Karla says: The way Wade and Nikki's paths kept crossing which ultimately brought them together. Very cute!
The setting! Victoria Vane's detailed descriptive writing invoked beautiful images in my mind. I could easily visualize the stunning Montana landscape.
How Victoria Vane lets readers know about the plight of the people of Montana through Wade's family and their fictional circumstances. It's a unique way to bring attention to how so many families are struggling to hold onto their heritage and land that's been in their families for generations.

What didn’t work
Kathleen says: Nikki had WAY TOO MANY doubts, fears and trust issue’s that kept accruing over and over. This drove me CRAZY, because Wade never did a thing to her to make her feel that way.
At one point she said and did something to Wade that was downright STUPID.

Karla says: Nikki got on my nerves a few times. She was somewhat evasive and I didn't understand why she felt Wade had to offer up explanations about his life, when she was so unwilling to divulge her past. She egged him on sometimes and said quite a few insulting things to Wade that were uncalled for.
She did come around and I loved the way she handled things with her sister.

Best scene(s) and/or quote(s)
Kathleen says: When Nikki drank too much and came onto Wade. How he reacted and some of the things he said to her about the difference between the way a boy treats his woman compared to a man, were panty drenching good.
When Nikki was in her father’s cabin and found all the letters he had sent her over the years and she finally saw the reason why they hadn't connected. This was a very emotional scene for me.
When Nikki FINALLY goes after Wade, the conversation she uses to get Wade riled up was hysterical.
The epilogue! It was so darn ROMANTIC!

Karla says: The dessert discussions...peaches and cream...cannolis...

“Oh yes, Wade. I love cannoli. Especially if they’re big and long and so filled to bursting that they explode in your mouth.”

The time they spent at the cabin...HOT STUFF!!! Spam wasn't the only thing that Wade and Nikki heated up!

Kathleen says: WADE! I LOVED everything about him! He was a complete gentleman, but he was also intelligent, considerate, attentive, charming, sexy, HOT and definitely made sure Nikki was WELL PLEASURED! I sighed so many times at the things he said and did. I TOTALLY fell in love with him.

Karla says: Wade! He was the perfect gentleman and was smart, sexy, kind, understanding and a hard worker. He put everyone else's needs and concerns before his own. He had me from the moment he appeared on the page and never let go of his hold on me, there wasn't one thing I didn't like about him.




Overall Thoughts
Kathleen says: I thought with this being Victoria Vane’s first contemporary cowboy romance that she did a FANTASTIC JOB! The story line kept me VERY INTERESTED from beginning to end. This read drew many emotions out of me, I smiled, laughed, cried, got angry, sighed, but most of all I was really turned on. The heat level was just right; I tell you Victoria Vane sure knows how to write some very spicy love scenes. What she also does so well are the characters, they are all very original and I loved them ALL. This is a book you definitely should not miss out on. ~ BIG 4.5 SEXY STARS!

Karla says: Known for her well written, delightful, engaging historical romances, Victoria Vane the "Mistress of Sensuality", takes a leap through time and lands smack dab in the middle of contemporary cowboy country...boots first! No matter the century, 18th or 21st, this author knows how to weave a romantic passionate tale, and her first foray with a modern day hero is a success!

Victoria Vane not only wrote a wonderful contemporary cowboy romance, she also addressed social issues and used it as a backdrop for the story she told. Her attention to detail about the state of Montana and its people, along with some fascinating tidbits about the issues they face with government bureaucracy, gave the story authenticity, and also made for some informative interesting reading.

Some authors have difficulty transitioning from one sub-genre of romance to another, it's not often that they can master both. Victoria Vane has a proven track record with historical romance, and now I'm pleased to say that she has in fact hog-tied and branded her seal on contemporary romance too! ~ 4.5 Solid Stars!

Montana... and Victoria Vane’s inspiration for Wade (from Pinterest).



★★★★½ I’ve loved Victoria Vane’s Historical Romance books, but didn’t know if she could pull off a change to a Contemporary Western Romance. Let me assure you, she certainly has with Slow Hand.

I enjoyed the dialogue between Wade Knowlton and Nicole Powell. There is such great bantering delivered here, which is a wonderful way for the reader to get to know the characters. I can’t even pick out my favorite, but the dessert discussion in the restaurant in Twin Bridges was fun and memorable… and lead to a very hot scene.

I loved the Montana setting, too. And the set-up, with Nikki in desperate need of rescue, all the while thinking it is lust ruling her emotions. Nevertheless, Wade is a gentleman from the beginning, even if Nikki doesn’t realize it. It is fun to see these two come to know one another, love one another, and eventually trust one another.

The next in the series is about the a$$hat older brother, Dirk. I wonder how Ms. Vane is going to pull that one off.

I received this book from the author through Netgalley for my honest review.

Maybe this book wasn't for me... And I'm sorry...

I gave it 2 stars only because something changed in the last quarter of the book.

In the first part I hated the heroine. She was TSTL! Let me explain: it's not a spoiler.

Nikki, our heroine, is flying from Atlanta. she's afraid of flying, but she must go because her father has died and she had to take care of his burial. After landing she drops her purse and all the things inside are scattered around. She frantically picks up: her cell phone, tubes of lipstick, feminine products, and miscellaneous other objects that littered the floor.

Obviously what did she forget to look for? C'mon, take a guess!

Her wallet!!!!

Will anybody do that??? I never, ever would! It's the absolutely the first thing I would be looking for!

After that she is very surprised when Wade (our hero) tells her that in order to get her documents, i.e. ID, credit carts, driver's license...

“I suggest you begin with the airline to see if your wallet’s been recovered. If it hasn’t, you’ll need to notify the Denver police.”
“I’ve already called the airline,” she replied, “but why the police? It wasn’t stolen.”
“Should anyone get their hands on your credit cards and ID, you’ll want to have a report on file for fraud prevention. You should also alert the credit reporting companies.”
“Thanks.” She offered a grateful smile. “I wouldn’t have thought of that.”

Really???? Really???? REALLY????
OMG, girl, where do you live??? On the moon???

The sad thing is that she's supposedly been living by herself since she was 17 years old... I'm wondering how has she survived all that time...



Then, shell we speak about insta-lust?
She met Wade 3 hours ago and she's already kissing him??? WOW!! WOW!!!

Well, maybe I'm a prude, but for me that is NOT normal behaviour!

Let's forget all this, as I cannot stand TSTL heroines, so maybe I'm biased... but, she's a bipolar too!!!

One moment she's all hot all over Wade and the next she's pushing him away. One moments she's throwing some heavy sexual innuendo and the next she's offended when he acts upon it.

Well, if I were Wade, I'll run away as far and as fast as I could!!! I wouldn't care that her ass is stellar. That her hear is heavy and silky. That her eyes are large and heavily fringed. She could be Miss Universe, but I would RUN!!!!

So the positive: Wade's patience, his explanation about his business and ranching and, hear, hear, Nikki's normal desire not to rush things.

I'm really, really sorry to give such a low rating, but I just couldn't stomach Nikki... :(

3.5 Sexy Cowboy Stars

Known for her delicious Historicals, the talented Victoria Vane has produced a winner with her first Contemporary. Here she gives the tale of Nikki Powell, a Southern girl returning to Montana to bury her father, and the oh-so-sexy Wade Knowlton whom she meets along the way. He’s ruggedly handsome, a sexy-as-sin lawyer and without a doubt this cowboy is the shining star of this story.

From the beginning the flirty banter is delicious and the sexual tension thick. Both have reasons for not wanting a relationship, making the slow build enticing. Vane’s talented writing brings alive the cattle industry in Montana, giving readers a greater understanding of the hardships many ranchers face. And her vivid imagery of this area had me feeling as if I was there in that crisp, cool mountain air.

My biggest hiccup was Nikki. Understanding her reasoning, her indecisiveness still had me at times wanting Wade to run! I’m happy to say that by the end my feelings had changed, however a little more groveling on her part would have been perfect:)

All in all, I very much enjoyed this story. Victoria’s foray into Contemporary Western Romance is proof that her talent isn’t limited to Historicals. The plight of the well fleshed secondary characters has left me eagerly anticipating the next installment.

“Darlin’, you ain’t seen a mountain until you’ve been to the Rockies.”

There are times you just want to pick up a book, get caught up in the sexiness and sweetness of it all and not have too much angst and drama. Well, that’s what we were in the mood for after a few ‘head messing’ books and what better way to find some sweet and sexy than with a cowboy! And Wade Knowlton fit the bill perfectly.

‘Wade Knowlton was everything she’d sworn off – all in one big hot cowboy package.’

Wade’s a smooth as silk, sexy as sin cowboy, with impeccable manners and a cowboy drawl that melted our knickers! We swear we were goners every time Wade so much as uttered the word darlin’….swoon city!

“Hate to burst your bubble, sweetheart, but a Stetson and a pair of Tony Lamas doesn’t make a man a cowboy.”

We’ve never read anything by this author before but after Slow Hand we intend to remedy that! We loved the setting, the characters were fun, their banter engaging. Wow! Those sexy innuendos had us fanning ourselves a time or two.

“Miz Powell, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were undressing me with those pretty blue-green eyes of yours.”

Wade Knowlton is a lawyer and part owner of Flying K, though the ranch is a burden he’d rather not have. He’s not had a good run of relationships and has a pretty miserable past where women are concerned. We could understand him being a little gun shy of relationships.

When Nikki enters his life, the protective nature in Wade is brought to the forefront and feelings for Nikki go well beyond lust and mutual attraction. Wade wants more with Nikki but this lady has seen more than her fair share of players and bad boys, especially those of the love ‘em and leave ‘em cowboy variety and doesn’t believe Wade is any different.

“You sound like it would’ve been a bad thing but I promise you darlin’, you’d have awakened with a smile on your face. I know I would’ve.”

We felt the instant attraction, the lust and sexual chemistry between Wade and Nikki as it sizzled. This was one sexy couple. Wade completely and utterly stole our hearts. Really? What’s not to love about this guy? He wears his heart on his sleeve, never shies away from expressing his feelings, his wants and desires Nikki and he is a walking hunk of gorgeous male!

Wade couldn’t have made himself clearer, nor been more upfront and honest with Nikki from the start when he made it apparent how he felt towards her and what he wanted from their relationship.

"You devastate me, Nikki. Do you know that?”

Now herein lies the problem. Nikki did grate on us somewhat. Her lack of trust in Wade was unwarranted. This guy never did anything, never acted in any way to make her so distrusting of him. Oh sure, she’d been burned in the past but it was very clear Wade was cut from a different cloth than her previous boyfriends. Just when she was starting to grate on every last nerve though, thankfully the author pulled it back and we settled in to enjoy the story.

We’re certainly looking forward to picking up further books in this series. As we said, sometimes you just want an easy, entertaining, fun, sexy and sweet read. If that’s what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with this one! A hot contemporary cowboy romance series set in Southwestern Montana, what more could you ask for?

3.5 Cowboy Loving Stars!!

This is my very first Victoria Vane book, and I have to say I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. I really enjoyed her writing style, she was so descriptive of Montana I can actually picture it.

I loved the Hero Wade, who wouldn't love this rugged yet refined Cowboy/Lawyer!! What I didn't love was the heroine Nikki, I found her to be wishy washy and indecisive and it drove me crazy!!! If not for Wade I'm not sure I would have finished, which would have been disappointing because when Nikki finally got out of her own head my feelings for her changed.



All in all an enjoyable read and I'm anxious to read the next book in the series Rough Rider featuring Wade's bad tempered, surly brother Dirk.

She let her gaze travel over him in a slow appreciation of his tall, lean, muscular frame. She guessed he stood at least six-three in his boots. “I suppose not,” she said. “It would be only prime grass-fed beef and Idaho potatoes for you.”
He crossed his arms over his broad chest and leaned on the door frame studying her. “Miz Powell, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were undressing me with those pretty blue-green eyes of yours.”
A guilty flush infused her face but she refused to give him the advantage. She opted for a strong offense instead. “So what if I was? Weren’t you quite fixated on my ass at Denver airport?”

Wade –


What can I say about Wade? One word comes to mind—totally irresistable! Handsome, old fashioned, charming, attentive, generous, kind and sexy – who wouldn’t fall for him. Those crystal blue eyes, the disarmingly boyish grin and the cute dimple on his chin only added to his appeal.

He was so self-sacrificing as well…not only a successful lawyer but also working tirelessly to keep the Flying K family cattle ranch afloat when he really wanted to cut loose and live his own life.

I knew there must be something more to cause such bad blood between Wade and his older brother other than their feud over the sale of the ranch.

Nikki –


Nikki came from a dysfunctional family and learned to be self-sufficient. She likes to be in control of her life and hates feeling helpless or having to rely on others.

After several bad experiences, she has a deep distrust of cowboys whom she views as ‘notoriously unreliable, generally unfaithful and rarely capable of settling down’. She refuses to let her emotions overrule her good sense ever again.

She is also coping with her changing feelings towards the father she hardly knew and the scene in her father’s cabin, where she finds his letters, was a very moving.

From the moment they meet, the sexual tension between Wade and Nikki positively sizzles. I love their verbal sparring:

Wade spun towards his office. ”Help yourself to the phone and anything else while I get cleaned up.” He paused again on the threshold. “Of course, you’re welcome to use my office if you need greater privacy.” He added over his shoulder with a look of devilment. “Or in the event any wild impulse overtakes you while I shower.”

He went to work on his shirt button. His collar was soon wide open revealing a generous show of muscular chest that made her hands itch to rip it off him. She averted her gaze and curled her itchy hands by her sides.

“Have no fear , cowboy, “ Nikki replied in a tone meant to disguise the warm flush that had come over her.” “I corralled all my wild impulses long ago.”

“Did you now?” He still stood in the doorway, head cocked. “Somehow, I think you may have missed a few strays.”

Of course, Nikki’s mistrust of cowboys causes conflict between them and I did get a little frustrated that it took her so long to realise that Wade was the real thing and worth grabbing and keeping! I loved the fact that Wade was sure that Nikki was the one for him and he was always there for her.

There are two deliciously wicked scenes that were most memorable…one where Nikki gets Wade all aroused with her suggestive talk about peaches and cream and another where the discussion about bulls and cows takes on obvious sexual connotations.

HOLY SMOKE! Ms Vane certainly knows how to write scorching hot love scenes. I felt sure my iPad was going to melt on more than one occasion!

I was intrigued by Wade’s brother, Dirk…a man bearing a lot of scars both physical and emotional. I’m anticipating that his story in ROUGH RIDER is going to be full of angst.

Ms Vane ‘s descriptive writing enabled me to visualise the sweeping beauty of the Montana ranching country and I also appreciated the elements of realism she brings to the story, highlighting the daily struggles of the ranching community.

SLOW HAND takes place in the wide open spaces of Montana; and as Nicole Powell arrives from sunny Georgia, she quickly realizes that she is out of her element. Nikki has received notice that her long estranged father has died, and as his only relative she must plan his funeral. She runs into a series of problems before she can even reach her destination of Twin Bridges, Montana, however; and a cowboy at the airport helps her out of her predicament. Unbeknownst to Nikki, the cowboy is none other than the lawyer who will be handling her father’s will.

Wade Knowlton is on his way home from a meeting when flights are disrupted due to the weather; and gallantly gives up his seat to Nikki. After arriving and discovering that Wade is the lawyer she is to contact, another issue rears its head. She has lost her wallet, with all of her ID and credit cards. Wade, being the gentleman that he is, personally guides her through the process of restoring her identity and provides her a place to stay. It doesn’t hurt any that he has taken a fancy to Nikki and wants to get to know her better.

As Wade and Nikki spend time together, the attraction between them grows. Nikki, having been involved in a long string of failed relationships, plans to take care of her business and leave; but thinks a little flirtation with the good-looking lawyer certainly can’t hurt anything. Wade takes Nikki home to his family ranch to stay, and then on a trip up the mountain to look for stray cattle. When they are forced to spend the night in a cabin on the mountain, their casual friendship comes to a head. Can Nikki bring herself to trust this cowboy with her heart when so many other men have let her down?

SLOW HAND is historical romance author Victoria Vane’s first foray into contemporary romance. The research into the inner workings of the cattle industry, as well as the vivid imagery of the Montana backdrop sets the storyline apart from the average romance tale. SLOW HAND is a meaty, sprawling family saga; as well as a tentative romance between a man burned by previous relationships and a restless, rootless woman. The flirty banter between Wade and Nikki is deliciously wicked, the sexual tension thick, and the love scenes steamy. The well fleshed out secondary characters and subplots of SLOW HAND leave the reader eagerly anticipating the next story in the series; that of Wade’s contentious brother Dirk.

Nicole Powell has had a slew of bad relationships that have ground in one rule, stay away from cowboys no matter how good looking they are. When she recieves word that her estranged father has passed away, it seems Nicole is on another unlucky streak with the flight from hell and a series of unfortunate events that follow.

Wade Knowlton can't help but keep his grin to himself when his eyes land on Nicole. Even thought it looks like she is having a terrible day, he can't stop himself from being attracted. He never thought their quick moment of seeing each other would lead to the two of them being around one another for another matter, he is the lawyer handling her fathers will. Wade wants Nicole, Nicole wants Wade, but he is a cowboy lawyer who makes insides flutter which has Nicole running in the other direction.

Very fun read. Nicole has been burned one time too many, but Wade has his own reasons to not trust. However for the first time in a long time,he wants to give a relationship a try. Nicole however is determined to head home to Georgia, while Wade is doing his best to convince him to stay. Perfect read for a slow sultry day.

Nikki only has 3 days until she must get back to her slave driving boss in Georgia, so she hopes that her dad left her no surprises. When her tiny can lands, she just wants to get off ASAP, struggles with her new suitcase purse & her cell, tampons & makeup make a escape into the aisle. Now she has to wait to get off, dashes to her next gate, told she was on double stand by (what the HADES is that) & has a complete & totally ugly CRY moment, right in front of this yummy boots wearing COWBOY! I really HATE COWBOYS, their cheating a$$es & why is he winking at me?

Wade Knowlton is burning both ends with being a lawyer during the week & ranch hand at The Flying K, the family ranch, ever weekend & spare minute. The ranch is crushing his wallet & his last nerve, but his pig headed & "I DON'T COMPROMISE" big brother, Dirk, won't sell. So Wade is sitting at the airport on his way back from the NOT SELLING the ranch, when Ms. Hot A$$ has a melt down at the ticket counter. His mom raised him right, so he gives up his plane seat to Hot A$$, winks at her sexiness & is going to driving to Virginia City!

Fates are so working for these 2 crazy kids, with 1 wiped out & stress heroine with a killer a$$ who lost her wallet, so the cell phone Gods (Gods because cell coverage in Montana sucks) let her reach out & touch the lawyer who loves a damsels in distress. Wade tells this mysterious damsel he is on the road, will pick her up & Nikki is so shocked & relieved, so she camps out at the hotel that WON'T give her a room. Wade looks at this gorgeous sleeping beauty, shocked that it's Hot A$$ & Nikki's hormones got into hyper drive. Wade & Nikki go on a hell of a ride thru Montana with white hot lust reaching nuclear meltdown with just 1 kiss.

They get to his office in Virginia City, hook Nikki up with a computer to get a new license, because she can't do anything legal without an ID, go to see her dad in the morgue & hit a bar for Nikki to consume tequila! Nikki wakes up dresses but alone at his family ranch & her heart falls hard as he holds her hair, as she puked up the night before. She meets his family which has a "chip the size of Montana on his shoulder" brother, a frail dad & a "welcome sunshine" mom. Their sexually tension could & does light up Montana on a cold wintery night. Wade moves his hands on her body like he is reading braille, believes a woman should always come first & Nikki can't get enough of his wicked & spicy kisses & his utterly decadent caresses that melt her panties & sending burst of ecstasy to her pleasure center! The sex is great, but is it enough to build on. Will Nikki sees that her cowboy with Slow Hands is the one? Can Wade prove that his love is worth the risk? What did her father leave her? How will they be together when she lives in Georgia? Can I kick Dirk's chip off his shoulder via his bootie?

Ms. Vane's books just get batter & better. This romance had her hilariousness in it & made me smile, giggle & hyperventilate from laughter. Nikki is a heroine who has been burned by all men including her dad & developed a moat, trench & drawbridge around her heart. She needed a knight to rescue her damselness! Wade is an old fashioned man raised right by his mama & is a modern knight in cowboy's boots & hat. Wade uses every weapon in his arsenal (he has many yummy & huge weapons) to lay siege to her heart. Ms. Vane included her amazing hilariousness with some one of a kind 1 liners like, "come to Jesus meeting," "gastronomic adventure," my mistakes have first & last names" & so many others. Now since it's a romance let's chat about sex, shall we. I highly recommend FLAME RESISTANT UNDIES & many FIRE EXTINGUISHERS before you read this book because it contains a tsunami of hotness, sexiness & sexually energy that made my pleasure side of my brain refresh, reset & reboot more than once. Ms. Vane has created a Sexy Montana Cowboy world that made me pull out my SPARKLY PINK cowgirl boots & dream about yummy Cowboys in tight Wranglers who melt my knees with kisses & have panties dropping caresses! Now this book COSMOS will be revisited many, many, many times because COWBOYSR4PATTY! Oh, just a little tip I learned from Nikki that I had to share, throngs chafe on horseback, so go commando! I must give Ms. Vane my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes for those steamy FLAME RESISTANT UNDIES worthy romance!

What I enjoyed from the read.....

I enjoyed this sweet well written contemporary romance by Ms. Vane. It was definitely one read that would make you smile at some of its humorous one liners that are going on in this read. Life had not been kind to Nikki when it came to men so when her father dies and has left her something and she has no idea what it could be since it has been a long time since she had seen him. Now Nikki has to leave Chicago and fly which she hated to Montana. We find Nikki not to happy camper especially not having much luck with men as you will see from the read. Will Nikki find happiness when she finally meets her lawyer who just happens to be a 'Sexy Montana Cowboy? Now that will leave another question...what all is going on with Wade guy? Wade was a definitely a cowboy with slow hands who had a brother (Dirk) who had a list of problems of his own, a fail father and a sweet mom. What all has happened in Wade's life that leaves him with a "chip the size of Montana on his shoulder?" I did love how this author was able to bring these two(Nikki and Wade) together and omg the sex is hot and simply off the chart! I don't want to give too much away other than saying there will be some twist and turns for Nikki that she will go through. The question is will Nikki decides to let go and take some new chances in her life? Can the love that Wade has for Nikki be enough for her to take a risk for love? Hopefully, will she?...well again I don't want to give it away so you will just have to pick up "Slow Hand" to see how this author will present it to the readers. I did find this story a little predictable in some of the read but still it didn't take anything away from this well written story. If you are looking for a good romance with a lovable cowboy you have come to the right place.... for "Slow Hand" would be recommended to you.

What a sizzling entry into the world of Western Romance for author Victoria Vane. Slow Hand is a sparkling introduction into the world of the Hot Cowboy Nights series.

Nicole Powell hates to fly for any reason, but when she is stuck in the middle of a connecting flight at the airport on her way to settle her now deceased father's affairs, she almost falls apart. Glancing around the gate for a free seat to wait the delay out, she spots a cowboy and practically shakes her head. Nikki has had a major yearning for this sultry cowboy's type, but each and every time, she's been burned by them, so she has sworn them off.

Cowboy/Lawyer, Wade Knowlton is giving the girl in tears the once over and aside from the blotchy red face in distress, he likes what he sees. He knows he shouldn't feel badly for her not being able to catch a flight out, but his mother taught him right, so without a second thought, he gives up his seat so the young woman can get to where she needs to go, and he opts to rent a car to make his journey. En route he gets a phone call from a supposed client in distress and re-routes to help.

Losing her wallet was the worst thing that could happen to Nikki. She seems to have no luck, and when the man who comes to her rescue turns out to be that cowboy from the airport she has no idea what to do. With serious reservations, Nicole accepts the help that Wade has to offer, but the obvious attraction they both have for one another is quite disturbing to her, and Wade's quick wit and constant innuendo start to chip at her reserve.

That missing wallet is a serious complication, because nothing can be done about getting Nikki's father's affairs in order until she can legally prove her identity. In the meantime, Wade takes Nikki to the family ranch he prefers not to call home. He is currently in negotiations to sell the quickly sinking ranch, and his stubborn military veteran/rancher brother, Dirk will block him at every turn. Meeting Wade's family is a little disconcerting to Nikki since she didn't have the idea childhood. Add that to her long list of loser cowboy loves and she is ready to run for the hills when Wade decides he wants her in his arms and his bed. Will Wade be able to get rid of the chains of the ranch from around his neck and start anew with Nikki? Will Nikki stop comparing Wade to all of her past failures and actually realize she might THE one right in front of her? Well you will just have to grab SLOW HAND by Victoria Vane to find that out.

SLOW HAND by Victoria Vane is a sizzling beginning in her Hot Cowboy Nights series. A great story and even great characters make this a must read, in my humble opinion. I love how Nikki's misconceptions about men get totally blown out of the water when she meets Wade. From the first, Wade is an honorable and good man on one end of the spectrum and a totally to die for lover on the other. He brings emotions out of Nikki she had no idea she had. These two are on fire, and it's that fire that Nikki is afraid will burn out when Wade inevitably will bore of her and that is one of her biggest fears. SLOW HAND will keep you turning the pages for more and then cursing because the next story isn't out yet. It's a wonderful, well written read by an author who is now on my auto-buy list.

4 Stars…Sizzling Chemistry!


Some families make sacrifices for one another while some members walk away.

Nicole Powell faces her fear of flying to lay a bitter past to rest. Her plan is to get in and out of Montana, wrap-up business, face ghosts, and make her way home to Georgia in a few days. Bad weather and a missed connecting flight throw a big kink in her plans. What’s even more aggravating is the sexy cowboy who is staring at her…and he’s not staring at her face!

Wade Knowlton understands sacrifice. He’s the son of a rancher. Yet ranching is not the career path he chose. Practicing law is the only thing keeping his family’s ranching business afloat during a depress economy. Convincing his family, especially his brother, to sell the Flying K is not the only source of friction. Yet guilt and family loyalty keep him bound to a small-town practice. Now, he’s given up his plane seat to a pretty woman who caught his eye…and she’s giving him the evil eye!

Women have always come easily to Wade. Cowboys have always broken Nicole’s heart. This time will be different. Nicole gave up cowboys a long time ago, but this particular cowboy is about to show her chivalry isn’t dead.

What are the signs of sexual chemistry? Let’s see. There’s an electric current that zings between two people, with a hyperawareness of one’s glances. There’s an overwhelming need to get physically closer. The eyes are drawn to the lips as they move followed by a shocking urge to kiss. The myriad of feelings are hard to ignore! This is what I felt between the hero and heroine of “Slow Hand.” It was hot!

These characters had mind-blowing chemistry, which I haven’t felt in a novel in a very long time! Ms. Vane easily steamed up the pages! And it isn’t the sexy times that are surprising. It’s how vivid the main characters are.

Wade isn’t a stereotypical cowboy, although his heroine lumps him with all the others. He makes a credible lawyer and default rancher. Nicole, while interesting, isn’t the most compelling heroine. Her reticence is understandable, but I wish there had been more to her character than a history of bad relationships. Yet, when the characters are together they are magnetic! It doesn’t hurt that one of the sexiest actors (to me) – a smooth charmer with a Texas twang - was cast in my mind as Wade. If all Ms. Vane’s books brim with the chemistry found in this contemporary romance I do look forward to more in the Hot Cowboy Nights series!

I'm a fan of Victoria Vane's historical romances. This is her first foray into contemporary romance and the same sizzling sexual tension applies. I'm hooked! Vane brings alive the cattle industry in glorious Montana with vivid imagery. I felt sympathy for Nikki who has had a rough trot in life. She has come to Montana to make some sense of her past. The lawyer cowboy, Wade, has his problems too. Vane writes about life warts and all, her characters are flawed, their past relationships are messy and she doesn't try to tie it all up in a pretty ribbon. Nikki has been hurt and is afraid to risk her heart and her future to another cowboy. But this cowboy proves to be a cut above the rest and very difficult to resist. Wade's not only hot, he's sympathetic and chivalrous.
His big warm arm came around her. "Wanna talk about it?"
"Not particularly." she sniffed. She never talked about her screwed-up family. "You don't want to hear about my childhood any more than I want to talk about it."
The ending leaves you with a sigh of satisfaction, and the beautifully written sex scenes will curl your toes!
SLOW HAND is the first in the series. I look forward to the second book which features Wade's brother, Dirk.

Characters and interactions were good, but the plot planning needed help.

The beginning was fun. Damsel in distress, loses her wallet, misses her plane, might lose her job. Sexy cowboy lawyer doesn’t know her, but can’t resist a great ass and helps her out. Their relationship was fun to watch. Sex scenes were hot and intense.

I was annoyed with the reason for the separation. I don’t mind authors using this romance novel formula, but if you can’t come up with a good reason, then don’t separate them.

REASON FOR SEPARATION:
It was obvious they were madly in love. He clearly expressed his desire for her. But she left him because: he’s too good to be true, and why would he want her when no one else had?

There are times you just want to pick up a book, get caught up in the sexiness and sweetness of it all and not have too much angst and drama. Well, that’s what we were in the mood for after a few ‘head messing’ books and what better way to find some sweet and sexy than with a cowboy! And Wade Knowlton fit the bill perfectly.

‘Wade Knowlton was everything she’d sworn off – all in one big hot cowboy package.’

Wade’s a smooth as silk, sexy as sin cowboy, with impeccable manners and a cowboy drawl that melted our knickers! We swear we were goners every time Wade so much as uttered the word darlin’….swoon city!

“Hate to burst your bubble, sweetheart, but a Stetson and a pair of Tony Lamas doesn’t make a man a cowboy.”

We’ve never read anything by this author before but after Slow Hand we intend to remedy that! We loved the setting, the characters were fun, their banter engaging. Wow! Those sexy innuendos had us fanning ourselves a time or two.

“Miz Powell, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were undressing me with those pretty blue-green eyes of yours.”

Wade Knowlton is a lawyer and part owner of Flying K, though the ranch is a burden he’d rather not have. He’s not had a good run of relationships and has a pretty miserable past where women are concerned. We could understand him being a little gun shy of relationships.

When Nikki enters his life, the protective nature in Wade is brought to the forefront and feelings for Nikki go well beyond lust and mutual attraction. Wade wants more with Nikki but this lady has seen more than her fair share of players and bad boys, especially those of the love ‘em and leave ‘em cowboy variety and doesn’t believe Wade is any different.

“You sound like it would’ve been a bad thing but I promise you darlin’, you’d have awakened with a smile on your face. I know I would’ve.”

We felt the instant attraction, the lust and sexual chemistry between Wade and Nikki as it sizzled. This was one sexy couple. Wade completely and utterly stole our hearts. Really? What’s not to love about this guy? He wears his heart on his sleeve, never shies away from expressing his feelings, his wants and desires Nikki and he is a walking hunk of gorgeous male!

Wade couldn’t have made himself clearer, nor been more upfront and honest with Nikki from the start when he made it apparent how he felt towards her and what he wanted from their relationship.

"You devastate me, Nikki. Do you know that?”

Now herein lies the problem. Nikki did grate on us somewhat. Her lack of trust in Wade was unwarranted. This guy never did anything, never acted in any way to make her so distrusting of him. Oh sure, she’d been burned in the past but it was very clear Wade was cut from a different cloth than her previous boyfriends. Just when she was starting to grate on every last nerve though, thankfully the author pulled it back and we settled in to enjoy the story.

We’re certainly looking forward to picking up further books in this series. As we said, sometimes you just want an easy, entertaining, fun, sexy and sweet read. If that’s what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with this one! A hot contemporary cowboy romance series set in Southwestern Montana, what more could you ask for?

Slow Hand was my first book by Victoria Vane, and now I'm hooked. Her writing style was fluid, she described the settings so well that I could picture them perfectly, the voices of her characters showed character development, they had realistic and often hilarious dialogues, and they were sufficiently put through the emotional wringer and allowed the necessary room to "find themselves".

I liked Nikki, but my feelings for her throughout the story would end up looking like a sinus curve. In the beginning, I liked her vulnerability and seeing her at her lowest point. I was able to get a good feel for her character - cynical, lonely, crappy job, no father, estranged from her mother and a screw up for a sister. There was no mention of any friends or close ties to anyone or anything where she called home. In her personal life, she'd made numerous mistakes, six in total according to her. The last one was the most devastating. She'd been dating Clint for six months before she found out he had a wife and kids. When she met Wade, she acknowledged their instant and intense connection and chemistry, but learning to trust him ended up being the major hurdle of this story.

Wade. Sigh. I want him in the worst way. That charmingly sexy cowboy lawyer was pretty much the perfect male specimen. While he'd been dealt his fair share of disappointment in his love life, which also damaged his relationship with his brother Dirk, he did want to fall in love again and settle down. I loved his cheeky side the most. He was so good at making her feel at ease, lowering her defenses and making her laugh.

This couple had undeniable chemistry, and not all of it was purely sexual. Nikki managed to open up to Wade about her past, and when she didn't think she needed comfort, he was always there for her. There were a few sexy times before their first time at the halfway point. Despite the amazing sex they shared, Nikki was of two minds about where they were headed, and her fear lasted up until around the 91% point. Their last sex scene broke my heart because it underscored the hurt, anger and frustration they were both feeling. My heart broke for them in that moment because they were both at fault and responsible for the impossible ultimatum. I was frustrated with her, but I understood the importance of their separation for a few months. The indecision, the heartache, the realizations, were all worth the wait for the ending. The person who made the first move towards reconciliation was perfectly chosen and executed.

I look forward to grabbing a copy for myself and eagerly await the next book in this series.

Needing a break from a lot of the darker books I’ve been reading lately, Slow Hand was a welcome change. It was light and romantic and the characters were sweet and interesting.

Wade is my new cowboy book boyfriend. He’s the gentleman rancher you can take home to your mama. He’ll pull out your chair and open your car door. He’s the sexy attorney that can handle your problems. And he’s a stallion in bed (or truck or cabin floor or…). He comes to Nikki’s rescue time and time again, and aside from being sexy as hell, he seems like a genuinely good guy. I love his aw, shucks demeanor and his Midwest charm, and he shows that chivalry is not dead.

Nikki took me a little more time to like. She complained about not wanting to get involved with cowboys time and time again, and I wanted her to give Wade more of a fair chance than she was wanting to give him. Actually, what I wanted to do was shove her aside and take Wade for myself, but if that wasn’t happening, I just wanted her to stop lumping him in with all of the other losers she had apparently chosen in her life. But she was a sympathetic character, and she grew on me.

With a charming cowboy and a damsel in distress, this book was a nice escape from reality. The supporting characters were just as interesting (if not more so!) than Wade and Nikki, and I feel as if the author is setting them up for stories of their own.

The one thing that I will call out, however, was some of the sexual banter. I love a dirty talker, but I was literally cringing when I read some of this. I will never look at cattle the same way again after reading Nikki’s argument to have sexually satisfied cows as some sort of sexual innuendo, alluding to Wade’s performance. So wrong.

But, cow porn aside, Slow Hand was a pleasure to read. It was sweet, romantic, sexy and gives me a hankering for some boots and spurs! Looking forward to reading about Wade’s brother, Dirk, Nikki’s sister Shelby, and even Allie, Wade’s former lover who I expected to hate, but had to admire for her ambition. Any books with these characters will be welcome on my “to be read” shelf!

This book contains explicit sex scenes so it may not be for everyone. Nicole Powell has sworn off men especially sexy cowboys. She is on her way to Montana when she misses her connecting flight. Her father has passed away and she is an only child so she is going to go get him buried and settle his estate. She hasn't seen her father in years, so she really wasn't sure why he mentioned her in his will. when she misses her connecting flight a handsome cowboy gives up his seat to her, when he sees how upset she is that she can't get to Bozeman. Wade Knowlton is the handsome cowboy who gave up his seat and he is driving to Montana. He is a lawyer in Bozeman. When Nicole gets there she realizes she has lost her wallet with her ID and money. She doesn't know what to do. The only number she has is the one they gave her for her father's lawyer. She calls it and he tells her to wait where she is but he will be a couple hours because he is driving there. When he gets there she realizes that it is the handsome cowboy form the airport. Wade is also suppose to help her settle things with her father's estate. He takes her under his wing and takes her home to the ranch. Donna, his mother, puts her up until she can get things straighten out. This is such a great story and of course it has its ups and downs, but I know you will love it as I did.

A love story so captivating you'll never want it to end!

Sassy and sexy never looked so good on pages of a book before. Slow Hand is not your typical western, as a matter of fact, Vane entwined the old west with the new west and gave us a whole new contemporary romance cowboy that most romance reader would appreciate.

The story set you up with some great sexual tension right off the bat. Between Nicole’s sassiness and Wade’s cowboy coolness they grab you from page one and keep a hold of you all the way though the book. Vane adds just the right amount of bartering between these two without going overboard. You can also tell how much research she put into the book as you read about the unfolding family ranch story.

You get a good since of the surrounding in the story and you really get to know the other side characters along the way. This is an excellent start for an upcoming great series.

Romance first and far most along with a great HEA ending for the main characters and a great look into the next books characters. I highly recommend this book for any romance reader.

Yums Cowboys. Really...that should be all that's needed. Sexy cowboys. *nods* Slow Hand was a dreamy good time

The quick of it is that Nicole is making her way towards Montana to settle her father's estate and her trip...pretty much disastrous. Anything that could go wrong...did and more often than not...she landed in the hands of one sexy cowboy lawyer named Wade who just can't seem to help himself when it comes to this, well, kinda sorta train wreck of a woman. A woman who happens to be his new client seeings how he handled her daddy's estate. Oh the dilemma!.

Alright. So ,Wade...he's got some swagger. Whewboy! Yes. He is a threat to panties with his cocky little smirk, smooth chivalrous good-all-the-way-down-to-his-boots ways. Plus...some make a girl pant moments in the bedroom...or car...or rustic little cabin in the mountains. Yeah. *slow nods* Yeah. I was liking me some Wade. He was just a good man all the way around that tries to do what he can to help others.

And Nikki. I liked her but lordy the woman could be a handful. She could be a little nutty and head strong and do that thing that makes me want to pinch a heroine where they force the hero's hand then go all flaily 'how could he?!' when he does as he's been told. Really girl? Yeah. Nikki and I were about to have words a couple times. But I managed to still like her and gotta say she does have some spunk to her.

Things were nice and steamy between them. The chemistry was explosive. Hot and sultry and had a little fun to it too. The two of them really knew how to push each other and tease which was entertaining.

Other than the oh-so-unfortunate use of the word bulbous the sexy scenes were hella hot and delicious. It was a good time watching them heat things up as she dealt with saying goodbye to her estranged father, settling his estate and learning more about him and healing some old wounds from their estrangement.

Overall, Slow Hand was a sexy fun read that left me curious to see what'll happen next with the series. It was just an easy read and a nice distraction on a winters day and one any cowboy lover will adore.

Nikki can’t believe that she is doing the one thing that scares her the most, flying. It was the fastest way to get to Montana. She has never been and will probably never leave her home in Georgia again for such a far destination but she is low on time and in need of closure. The stress of flying and the hurt of her father’s 20 year absence from her life bring her to the brink of breaking when a handsome cowboy gives up his seat on the plane for her. Good thing she has sworn off cowboys.

Nikki is a heroine who has not had every luxury in the world, she has had many challenges in her life and at this time she is just getting by and is not close to call herself happy. I liked her backstory and that it came out little by little in the plot. Her reluctance to recognize the attraction with Wade was slightly annoying, and I felt it needed a better resolution that what happened. I truly liked who she became at the end of the plot; I wish she found that confidence sooner. I liked Wade the minute he hit the page, a cowboy lawyer – what not to love! He hides his pain well, and I thought the scene where he tells Nikki of his past was one of the best in the book.

The plot is quick moving and spans only days until their “conflict” that tears them apart. After that I got foggy on how much time passed, and when it was told how long they had been apart I questioned it. The resolution of the conflict was satisfying and had me swiping the pages fast. I am looking forward to book 2 in this series.

Vane’s descriptions are the type that make the entire story easy to picture. Vane really brings her world to life. She gives you a beautiful view of Montana and a real look at ranch life, both from the point of those who love it and those who feel trapped by it. And this is just the backdrop for her emotional and revealing story that had me on my toes.

The main characters in this novel were extremely well developed. I really enjoyed how we got to know their pasts gradually. Each piece of information gives you a deeper understanding as to the conflict in this novel. The female lead’s conflicting emotions, beliefs, and prejudices are presented in such a manner that the emotions jump out of the pages of this novel. I simultaneously felt empathy for her, jealousy of what she had, and the need to yell at her for walking away. The male lead was an entirely different story. His attempts to rectify the past and to finally take what he wants, all the while being the perfect gentleman, make him the type you can’t help but fall in love with. The supporting cast, although small, was quite well developed and rounded out this story quite well. The conflict and support that they provided really brought this town to life.

This was definitely an enjoyable read. Vane had my emotions and my heart tied up throughout. I’d definitely recommend it to those who enjoy a good romance.

Slow Hand is a warm, fun, feisty rural town romance. It even got me into the holiday spirit even though it’s not meant as a holiday based read.

Nicole Powell has just found out that her estranged father has died. Heading to rural Montana is the last thing she wants to do but she feels she owes her father and herself closure. With a serious of unfortunate events, Nicole finds herself stranded with no ID or money, when a sexy cowboy arrives to save the day.

Wade Knowlton is a successful lawyer as well as helping his family maintain their cattle ranch. It’s taken a toll on Wade’s love life but he’s not looking for serious relations until the day a sassy but distraught Ms. Powell wanders into his life.

Nikki was a southern bell that has been burned one too many times by sexy cowboys. She is highly resistant to Wade’s charms but resistance is futile when you are stuck together 24/7 or so you’d think.

Wade's goal is to ensnare Nikki while Nikki just wants to run the other way.

I did find Nikki’s head not in the right place and Wade’s about face a little abrupt but in the end, I enjoyed reading this heartwarming, slow building romance.

Slow Hand is a perfectly delightful, hometown romance with a swoon worthy cowboy in boots.

Wow! I really enjoyed this great story. Contemporary romance is not my first choice for reading pleasure, but I've enjoyed all Victoria Vane's books, and this one did not disappoint. I fell in love with Wade from the first page when he gives up his seat on the plane to Nikki, a woman he doesn't even know. What a gentleman! Got to love a man like that, and a cowboy at that!

Victoria has a smooth and flowing writing style that keeps her pacing even. I love how she puts me in the moment giving me the sense that I'm part of the scene. Her vivid description of the scenery and landscape makes it easy to imagine what it looks like.

I've personally never spent much time around horses, but it's evident Ms. Vane has. I feel like I know more about the fascinating animals after having read this book. It makes me want to go to a dude ranch out west, so I can experience the feel of a horse under me, riding across the terrain.

This story is steamy hot with well-drawn out sexual scenes that allows the reader to use their imagination, yet still gives enough detail to satisfy. If you're looking for a beautiful love story with unforgettable characters, then this is the book for you. Happy reading!
