3.5 stars

1.5 stars taken off for writing style and grammar mistakes, but an overall good story about Edith Cavell. And yes, I cried at the end.

Update: the author has informed me that these errors have been corrected.

A wonderful short historical novel. DeAngelo does a wonderful job of depicting the horrors of war during the occupation of Belgium.
While these Germans were not the Nazi's of WWII, they were in many ways as brutal in WWI.
In a short amount of pages DeAngelo brings us into the life of Edith Cavell, the martyred nurse, her thoughts, her exploits and the lives she touched and soldiers she saved from German hands.
Highly recommend this for all history and historical novel fans.

The Germans invade Belgium to begin WWI and have taken over. A band of men and women have formed an underground railway out of Belgium despite the threat of death for doing so. Scary, well researched and a great, great read.
