Heroine Charlotte Michaels tries to get revenge on her boss, hero Daniel Wolfe, because she thinks he’s responsible for her step-brother’s death. But, as she gets to know him, she begins to fall for him. An okay read, but not much revenge in this book. I liked when Daniel showed Charlotte the sights of New York City. The story took place around Christmastime.

The h is, 25-26 year old, Charlotte. She works at the H ,Daniel Wolfe’s, office as some sort of market analyst.
It’s insta love/lust from the H’s side. But the h thinks he’s responsible for her stepbrothers death on an overdose. According to the gutter press, the H and the stepbrother got in to a fight over the stepbrother’s fiancée. The h was on vacation when all this happened and only found out after the funeral.
The H invents a job opportunity in NY (she lives in London) and hopes that the h will take the bate, witch she does.
He also hopes that she will ask him about his involvement in her brothers death, so he can explain and get past that hurdle (the h doesn't know that the H knows that she’s related to the stepbrother).
The h considers her beauty a curse and has learned to hide behind a cool facade. But now she intends to use it to attract the H and make him fall in love with her as revenge for what she thinks he did to the stepbrother.
So at the beginning both of them have ulterior motives for getting to know each other.
The h has to stay at the H’s house when the apartment in NY she’s suppose to be staying in isn't vacated yet.

At this point I'm still waiting for the revenge. Or at least a prelude to revenge. The h seems oddly ambivalent about it so far.

After they end up in NY the book basically becomes a travel guide to New York. Not much happens, except that their relationship is establish. The H starts wooing her gently and h starts liking the H. This is about half way into the book.
After a night out they end up making love (there is taking of virginity, but no hymen braking or pain witch is unusual in a HP). Afterwards the h gets a guilty conscious because she’s suppose to hate the H but now she realizes she’s in love with him.

What about the revenge? isn't this what she wanted? Now I start to suspect that this isn't a real revenge book!

Anyhoo, She gives up on the revenge and sneaks out and get help from a relative of the H. While waiting for said relative she sees the stepbrother’s fiancée. The fiancée had disappeared after the brother’s death. Now the h thinks that she is the H’s lover.
The h ends up in a funky apartment and is sad that she’s spending Christmas alone and cold. ( a Dickensian tail anybody?)
Don't worry tho, she doesn't spend long in the funky flat. The H turns up and is all ”what the hell woman!?”
He “convinces” the h to accompany him to his country house. He tries to question her about why she ran but, she just gives evasive answers.
The h’s traitorous body gives in and they end up making love again that night. The next day the h feels more guilt and the H continues to try to get some answers from her.
After they spend a day outside on a snowmobile, the h ask to be return to New York. The H says fine, but first they have to hash things out. He reviles that he knows that she’s related to the stepbrother.
He tells her that the he never had a relationship with the fiancée. He only help her after she had a row with the stepbrother and said stepbrother misconstrued the situation and thought that they were having an affair. The fiancée is in NY because she couldn't keep working in the London office when the other staff members thought that she had an affair with the H. He help her get a new job in NY. The h is still doubtful. They go to dinner and the H invites the fiancée an leaves the h and her alone (I forgot how she came to be in the restaurant in the first place). The fiancée reviles that the stepbrother had a drug addiction and that is why they argued and the whole mess started. The H and h go home, talk and declare there love. HEA

This book reminded me of Sandra Field’s books, in that the characters talk a lot and the main focus is on the h/H. And that the H is trying to figure the h, and her motives ,out.
The blurb makes the book sound more dramatic then it is, but I still liked it.

Original: Surprisingly good with wonderful, loving H. Reread: Reread, or tried to reread. Didn’t like at all and lowering rating to 2 from 3.
