My Review: 5 out of 5 Stars. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!

Let me first crush on the cover just a bit. It fits the story P-E-R-F-E-C-T... perfect! It draws you in and makes any music lover swoon to read this story. After reading the book, and then I look at the cover, I see Lacey. I can picture the moments in the story where her and Trina dance in the doorway while the band performs, waiting for the rush to sell the merch. I will admit, when I first got a copy of the book for review and read the description, I thought it was going to be similar to "Almost Famous". But it wasn't. It showed a totally different side of the music industry, a band starting out, and the people who help bring it all together. On that note, I will say, I could not have been happier with the way the story unfolded. I thought it was fantastic. I loved loved loved it!

So let me tell you why I absolutely loved this book. First, I love music. I am a huge fan of rock bands (Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Daughtry, Theory of a Dead Man... just to name a few) and I thought back to some of the concerts I have been to over the years. It made me completely nostalgic. It made me jealous. Second, it was a fun, easy read. I got through it quickly. It would have been read and reviewed in one day if not for my JOB, grrr. Once I started reading I was drawn in. It was a believable story with truly captivating characters. I loved Lacey. I thought she was a strong, confident, loyal protagonist who reminded me what it feels like when you start to fall for someone. I enjoyed Trina's sassiness, but she was kinda mean to the fans, but I am sure this happens all the time in the celebrity world and is probably one of the biggest downfalls of dating a non-celebrity. I'd probably be the same way as Trina... I could never watch my boyfriend let girls hang all over him, kiss him, or throw themselves at him. Especially if you no one knows he's spoken for. That would be horrible. Nice touch though Rebecca! I cannot say enough how gratified I was to see Jenna get what was coming to her. I loathe... loathe, girls like her!!

I Liked how the author was able to show us this unknown side of the music world (the "Merch Girl" world) while also giving us a glimpse of a band starting out. At first I thought that maybe Lacey and Trina's luck was too good, too coincidental, but then I stopped and thought about a friend of mine from high school who is in the music industry. I have gone to some of his shows, spent time with him in the midst of his music career and he continues to be down to earth and maintains real relationships. I also reminded myself that these guys were young and just starting out - they had yet to be tainted by the industry yet. Which only made me swoon even more for the relationship between Lacey and Logan. As many readers of my blog know, I am not a fan of over the top, erotic love scenes or relationships that go from "hi, nice to meet you" to kinky S&M sex in 24 hours. Merch Girl was NONE of that. It was real. It was honest. It left me wanting more.

Yes, I said it again... I want more of the band, more of Lacey and more of Logan. I warned all of you that I love series and I can only hope this isn't the last time we see Lacey and Landsdowne.

I loved Merch Girl, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves music and contemporary YA!!

WOW! Lacey and Trina had an adventure people many think of having. As one who loves books just as much as music, I felt like I was reading a tour in a book. Feeling the rush from going to the concert at the nightclub to when they met the band afterwards. I think its safe to say I need to go to a concert, like NOW.

When Lacey and Trina snuck into the nightclub to see their faveorite band Lansdowne, little did they know they`d end up being their merch girls for their summer tour. I`m just glad they WOW! Lacey and Trina had an adventure people many think of having. As one who loves books just as much as music, I felt like I was reading a tour in a book. Feeling the rush from going to the concert at the nightclub to when they met the band afterwards. I think its safe to say I need to go to a concert, like NOW.

When Lacey and Trina snuck into the nightclub to see their faveorite band Lansdowne, little did they know they`d end up being their merch girls for their summer tour. I`m just glad they asked their parents before going. Ok, temporary parental moment over.

Working for your favorite band has about as many perks as it does advantages. For one, you`d get to hear them for free. Could you imagine how many fans wouldn`t be concert broke all the time? What a concept! Being VIP when you go to the after parties is a great thing. Trust me, I went to the after party with Down With Webster in Saskatoon and ended up getting VIP with them. Felt like royalty. Side note, don't mix Champagne with Screwdrivers, that stuff is nasty. Then there is the flip side; fan girls, crappy sleeps in hotels and buses, and let's not forget showers in random places. The girls endured that and more.

What's a story without romance? This one had its typical girl loves lead singer, lead singer falls for the girl and everyone lives happily ever after. But there were twists with this romance, starting with the fact that the band didn't know that Lacey and Trina were fans of the band. There is some hostility when the guys figure it out, but they quickly get their shit together and stop letting it bother them.

The relationship between Lacey and Trina go through some rough patches throughout the story. When they start dating a band member, both take opposite sides of the girlfriend of a band member role. Lacey takes on the more supportive role to the fans, she doesn't mind them hanging out with the band and such. Where as Trina didn't like the fans and was slightly disgusted by them. This hate and tension in the relationship led her needing to leave the tour partway.

Oh Devin, what do I have to say about you? I will say I subconsciously thought she had an alternative motive throughout. She runs a fan blog and in my head, I thought something would get exposed and somehow get Lacey in trouble or something. But when she turned out to be a better friend than Trina, those thoughts went away.

This was a great read especially as one who loves music and books. I loved that Lacey grew as a person and that she had a had ending relationship wise. It may not have been the most ideal relationship outcome, but that comes with the joys of dating a rock star. ...more

I met Rebecca here on Goodreads, and I knew immediately I HAD to read her book, Merch Girl. My sister has said in the past that if I didn't have writerly stuff and music, I'd never have anything to talk about. This book was everything I could ask for in a book - music, rockstars, and romance!

I love that Rebecca Lewis didn't make everything out to be super glamorous. Lacey & Trina have to adapt to life on the road, without access to a shower at times, which humored me. They had to deal with fans throwing themselves at "their" guys. And both girls dealt with the many insecurities that come with falling for a rockstar and having to keep your distance from him in the public eye. However, sprinkled in between those dramatic moments, there were secret kisses, heart-to-heart conversations, and the many perks of being "with the band."

I particularly liked the character of Devin and how she originally looked like an obsessed fan but really was in love with the music as much as the boys. I worried early on about how she'd impact the story, but she was one of my favorites. Logan was dreamy and super sweet. He softens the awful stereotypes that rockstars tend to get, and I liked that about him (because not all rockstars are self-absorbed jerks, people).

The only thing that bothered me was Lacey's constant self-doubt. It was realistic, yes, and it was very fitting with a normal 17 yr old dating a rockstar, but sometimes I wanted to shake her and scream, "Lacey, you're awesome! Get over it!" She and Trina were the kind of girls I'd like to hang out with (which says a lot because I rarely ever hung out with girls in high school). It's rare that I enjoy female characters this much, so props to Rebecca for writing cool chicks! :)

If you're a music lover (or fan girl lol), this book is for you. If you're looking for a fun romance, this book is for you. If you like contemporary YA in general, this book is for you! Basically, READ THIS BOOK. You won't regret it! ...more

As a Boys in a Band fangirl myself, I knew that I was going to enjoy Merch Girl. And I did. I enjoyed it so much, in fact, that I read the entire book in one sitting. This is a fun, fast-paced read about Lacey and her best friend Trina, who score the ultimate summer jobs: selling merchandise for their favorite rock band. I've been searching for more music themed YA novels recently so I when I came across Merch Girl I actually got in touch with the author who very kindly sent me a copy to review. Merch Girl follows Lacey and best friend Trina as they head off on tour with their favourite band.

You know when you finish a book and end up overwhelmed by all of the feelings? That was me after finishing Merch Girl! I loved this book so much, but we better start at the beginning. Immediately I was drawn to main character Lacey. She starts out shy and awkward which I can totally relate to. She's never had a boyfriend and is kind of carried along by her best friend Trina, who's the more outgoing one of the two. The book is set during the summer before Lacey starts college and I think that's the perfect time to explore yourself and have fun, so it was great to see Lacey experience that and gain some confidence.

Needless to say with the characters hanging around with a band made up of three good looking guys, there's plenty of romance to be had! Lacey finds herself drawn to lead singer Logan, and I have to admit, I am completely with her there. I don't often get fictional crushes but Logan is totally swoonworthy! I absolutely loved him. He had great chemistry with Lacey and I really enjoyed their scenes together. Despite Lacey being shy, she just seems to be so comfortable with Logan and he was such a caring and thoughtful character (which made for a nice change!). They have a fair few barriers up against them, mainly the attention Logan gets from fans and the fact the record label want the guys to appear single, so it was good seeing how the two of them coped with those obstacles.

Now I wanted a book about music but I never imagined I would get such an experience! Reading Merch Girl left me feeling like I was right there on tour with Lacey and the gang. I could feel the atmosphere of the gigs and got swept up in the celebrity, rock and roll lifestyle of the band. I absolutely love road trip novels as well so having that element of the story was an added bonus! I enjoyed reading about all the different places they get to visit (and I was only a teeny bit jealous...).

The friendship between Lacey and Trina was a real backbone to the story. I adored the relationship the girls had and how they were always on hand to give each other advice, whether it be about matters of the heart or what to wear the next day. They really balanced each other out as well being quite different from each other.

There were more great characters to mix up the story a bit, from bitchy Jenna who causes a whole load of drama, to superfan Devin who gave that insight into the band's fans. I loved all the little sub-plots going on alongside Lacey's adventures because it meant there was always something happening.

I couldn't put this book down. By the end I'd surprised myself with just how emotional I'd become about the story coming to a close! I was just so invested in the characters and the plot and didn't want that journey to end but when it did I was blown away by what a perfect way to leave things it was.

I honestly can't recommend this book enough. It's fun, yet filled with drama and has a fantastic love story. I think it will appeal to a wide range of people, from lovers of YA contemporary to die hard music fans. If you've obessed over a band at any time in your life (and let's face it, who hasn't?) then you'll find something to relate to in there. And it really encapsulated that time of life when you're finishing school and heading out into the big wide world. The writing completely caught my attention and I can't wait to read more from this author!

Merch Girl was like a walk down memory lane. I still clearly remember being seventeen and going to see my favourite bands each time they played. Music was such a huge part of my life. It was such a carefree time, being with friends and getting lost in the music!!

But by the end of the night they've not only managed that, but have met the band and been invited along on tour to sell merchandise. Is that not every seventeen year old girls fantasy? But will life on the road be everything they hope it will be?

Merch Girl was such a quick, easy and fun read. It is quite faced paced and events tend to come to fruition quite quickly. Told from the point of view of the main character Lacey we get to experience all the excitement of travelling on the road and touring with a band. Lacey has a thing for nineteen year old lead singer Logan Shire. Logan is focused on making the bands first tour a success and while his other bandmates are interested in having girlfriends, Logan lets Lacey know that he doesn't need or want the distraction. But he doesn't count on his attraction to Lacey being so strong.

I stared at him in awe, taking in his beauty. I was still in shock that someone this gorgeous would want to be with me.

Lacey was exactly how I would expect a young girl to act when facing the prospect of spending the summer with their favourite band and crush. She was giddy with excitement, tongue tied when she first met Logan, and beats herself up for saying something silly. Since she was so down to earth it was hard not to like her and get swept up in her excitement. I liked the slower progression of her relationship with Logan compared to how quickly things moved for Trina. And speaking of Trina, I had a hard time liking her. She came off as a bit snarky and rude at times. For the most part she was a good friend to Lacey though.

I loved that the author wrote Logan the way that she did. There were no temptations of the trappings of fame for him. He could be the swoony lead singer of a band with girls vying for his attention in every town but still be good, caring, considerate and loyal.

Whilst this book did feel young at times it does discuss sex, but it is all done in a way that is not too wordy and when things did get a bit hot and heavy the scene would tend to fade out, so it ended up being a really clean read.

I know that I've really enjoyed a book when I get to the last page and I have a real genuine smile on my face and I'm left feeling happy with the way things were wrapped up. ...more

I have to say this book was amazing!! I was so glued to the book, I couldn’t stop reading it. I loved the characters and the drama. Also, in some parts the book was funny.

Wow, that was fun! Merch Girl is fast-paced and so full of drama, which typically wasn't my kind of thing. For once I didn't mind all those typical teenage drama about boys and annoying ex-friends, but the author really made it worthwhile with Merch Girl. I feel like I was seriously misled by the blurb provided for this book. Rock Stars? seriously, where?
The entire thing read like Jonas Brothers/One Direction fan fic and was so seriously juvenile it made me cringe. The characters didn't feel like they were 18 or 20 (?!). It was more like 13 -15 y/o's and that's the suggested demographic for this book imo.
Maybe if I hadn't expected something more edgy and Rock n Roll I wouldn't be so disappointed. But there were no glimpses into the world behind ...more

Very cute well written book. Lacey is your average a bit insecure 17 yr old soon to be 18 yr old young woman. Logan is the 19 yr old hot up and coming lead vocal rock star.

This book is very entertaining an realistic. The struggles Lacey faces and the doubts she has about herself an her relationship with Logan are all very realistic. "He loves me, he loves me not." That's literally what the whole book was like. That and a dash of mean girls.

I wanted this book to be good. I liked the whole idea of it. A fan gets hired to be her favorite band's merch girl? Ends up dating the lead singer? Heck yeah, I'm down for a book like that! The only reason why I read to the end is because I wanted to see where she ended up. I should have known when I saw the book was a self published title. I've work in enough libraries and bookstores to "He loves me, he loves me not." That's literally what the whole book was like. That and a dash of mean girls.

I wanted this book to be good. I liked the whole idea of it. A fan gets hired to be her favorite band's merch girl? Ends up dating the lead singer? Heck yeah, I'm down for a book like that! The only reason why I read to the end is because I wanted to see where she ended up. I should have known when I saw the book was a self published title. I've work in enough libraries and bookstores to know generally if you have to self publish your book, there's a reason for it. But regretfully, I gave it a shot. There were just so many problems with this book that it's just not a good book.

First off, I hated that there was no setting. Yeah, she named the cities they were in and described when they were in and out of the bus, venues, and hotels - but there weren't any description at all of what they were like. The book is told from the narrative of the 17 year old merch girl who is traveling the country for the first time in a bus with a bunch of extremely hot rock stars. She's a first time on tour girl - where are the descriptions of the venues and the different cities? What is it like living on a claustrophobic bus and not being able to have a decent meal every night? What about those late nights after the shows and having to shower at the venues, or not being able to shower when you want? I wanted to be on this amazing ride with her and instead I'm in her head about whether or not Logan likes her. Gag.

There were also problems with the character Lacey herself. I don't know anything about her other than she likes Landsdowne and she has a crush on its lead singer. She mentions she's going off to college at the end of the summer, but didn't mention what school she's going to or what she's majoring in. She doesn't talk about what she likes to do in her spare time or what her hopes and fears are in life. It was "Logan this, Logan that, Landsdowne is amazing," blah blah blah. Not to mention I just really dislike the name "Lacey." Is it shortened for something? What was the reason why her parents gave her such a puke worthy girly girl name "Lacey?"

Then there were problems with the secondary characters, for example her best friend Trina and her ex-best friend Jenna. Trina was a mean girl, just as obsessed with the band as Lacey was. The fact that Trina was mean to other fans is literally the own fact that separated her from Lacey. Other than that they were the same exact character. Jenna is their ex-best friend - why? I don't know they never said why. And there were no attempts to even get along, discuss what happened etc. For all we know, Jenna is the stereotypical high school Queen Bitch, but no we don't get details like that. From the second Jenna, Lacey and Trina see they're all pining for the same band, it becomes a bland cold war of secretly trying to get the other kicked off the tour. Eventually, Jenna gets kicked off when Trina and Lacey come forward to Jenna's boyfriend of the band, Ryan, to let him know that Jenna has been cheating on him with the band's website designer, Jeff. In retaliation, Jenna releases pictures of Lacey and Logan at the club together and sneaking off on to the bus alone - but barely anything happens from it except a tabloids drags their name through the dirt. Even then, Logan - who pushed on Lacey so hard to keep their relationship a secret from the public eye for publicity reasons, just completely brushed it off.

Then there's this girl named Devin, who could have been an interesting mix into the band. She's a fan that drove all along the east coast following the band for her fan blog. That takes dedication, and a good amount of obsession to do that. She could have been so disastrous for the band, writing about all of the secrets behind the stage curtain that the band didn't want to be known to the public. But she doesn't. She plays the nice, respectful fan who doesn't post anything scandalous without permission. Yawn.

This adventure should not have been as easy for Lacey as it should have been. Any good author knows that they shouldn't give their characters what they want right away, at least not until the end. I don't even know what the climax of the story was here. The ride wasn't as smooth as Lacey wanted it to be, but even still, things weren't as hard for her as they could have been. Especially with the relationships. Once Trina and Lacey came forward with the news about Jenna and Jeff, Trina's boyfriend Griffin became so angry with her for not telling the truth about one of their band members that he broke up with her. And Trina went home - for literally a few days and then flew back to surprise Lacey for her birthday. In my opinion I don't think that should have been a reason for them to break up. Trina was being a whiny brat who couldn't handle when things went the slightest bit wrong and flew home with her tail between her legs.

And Logan - oh, the ever understanding Logan - wouldn't ever really get that mad at her. I wanted at the end, when Lacey was told, and not by Logan, that the band was moving to L.A. once the tour was over, for them to get into a fight. Cause now Logan isn't the one being honest, and what was that supposed to mean for their relationship? That Lacey was a summer fling and that's it? That he was going to leave her high and dry and move on with his music in L.A.? He said right at the beginning he didn't want a relationship to interfere with his career. That would have given every right for Lacey to be upset with Logan and start a fight that would have ended in a break up and then a possible make up after she returned to college. But nooooooo. It ends with them staying together still and Logan surprising her in her college dorm room.

If the author actually put the effort in to have descriptions and really screw things up for the characters. Because we, as readers, don't want to read a book where the character gets what she wants each time. We don't want smooth sailings with a bit of scenery and little spats about the gas and where they're going to stop to eat. We want them to get lost on a bumpy, winding road in the middle of the night and have the car break down, only to make these tired and hungry walk a mile or two down the abandoned road to find that hidden roadside hotel that doesn't come with internet. You want them to work for their happy ending, or not even a happy ending, a hopefully bittersweet ending where the character doesn't get what they want, but there's the hope that they will.

This could have been a good book if the author actually took some writing courses, but it's unfortunately clear that she did not. ...more

The story-line was exciting and something different from the other stories I've read so far.

The protagonist, Lacey seemed slightly annoying in the beginning. I don't know whether it was her demure personality or just the helpless way she carried herself but as the story moved on, I actually started liking her.
However, the opposite happened with Lacey's best friend Trina. In the beginning, she seemed upbeat and so supportive. She dragged Lacey around with her to all of Lansdowne's events as she got closer to one of the band members of Lansdowne and I felt that that was actually very sweet of her, but slowly, she just became exhausting to read about. Her jealous, snobby attitude and insecurities were super irritating and the abrupt way her relationship started, then ended and then started again was a little too fast for my taste.

Thankfully, Lacey's relationship with Logan was much steadier. Initially, I'd thought that Lacey might turn out to be the dumb-protagonist after all but no, that didn't happen. She turned out to be quite level-headed and clear on what she wanted. I liked how she remained calm (or atleast tried to) as Logan's fans fawned all over him.

As for the guys, well, Ms. Lewis did an amazing job there. Logan was definitely swoon-worthy and I loved the way the story ended. (view spoiler)

All in all, Merch Girl was pretty good. I would've given it 4 stars had it not been for the part where I initially didn't like Lacey and the part where I almost wanted to throw eggs on Trina's obnoxious head. And by some lucky chance, they managed to get in with the help of their friend. Lacey and Trina achieve their goal which is meeting their favorite band and getting to know the guys in that band. There are a lot of dramas that happened in this book but I like it, it just seems realistic to me. And let’s face it, being in showbiz especially in the music industry is a one heck of a drama filled experience so it’s no wonder there are a lot of those in this book. I really admire the author for making this book true to the reality and for not creating or adding over the top scenes or details in this book. Ms. Rebecca showed us what kind of dramas that can possibly happen from onstage up to behind the stage. The lying for the sake publicity, the fake smiles given to the fans for the sake of keeping up appearances, the media circus, the crazy fans, the groupies and all other whatnots.

Also, I love the characters! Lacey’s really an understanding and friendly girl. And she loves her best friend too much that she even defended her against Logan. The only thing that gets me pretty miffed is her lack of confidence with herself and she always think about what the opinions of other people about her. Now, let us talk about Logan. Well, what can I say about him? He is so perfect! He’s hot, will sing you to sleep, will even fly off from a far place just to visit you and he’s in a band. What more could you ask for, right? I want a boyfriend who will sing me to sleep. Eeeeep! >.<

Merch Girl will undeniably make you smile and wish for a hot rock star boyfriend for yourself. This book is a great read for this summer. I urge you guys to go read it.

And honestly I loved it! I had trouble putting it down. It was fun and carefree but not without some obvious teenage drama because hey they're teenagers.

I really liked the main character Lacey. She was fun and caring and sweet and she really grew throughout the story.

Merch girl was a cute story. The main plot-line was interesting because it was different. Not many people can say they've been on tour with a band before. So that setting really drew me in. I loved seeing how that life is, even if it was just from the point of view of a "merch" girl.

The main romance was sweet. I like the fact that it was gradual, and slowly they cared more for each other as the story went on.

This was such a fun quick read. It has hot rock stars, 2 friends, a tour bus and a bitch all the ingredients for a great read. Tina and Lancey both fans off Landsdowne sneak into a nightclub to try and meet them. One thing lends to another and they are both hired to become merch girls.
I really liked to romance building and the characters were nice, insecure and real.

I started this book at 11pm last night and did not sleep until I finished it, which was at 10 am this morning. I have bags under my eyes but this book was so worth it. This book was great. I loved fantasizing about the rock stars. However, Lacey wouldn't put up a fight. Even if it wasn't her fault, she had to crawl back and apologise.
