Separated from her escort during a storm, she is discovered by Angus MacNeill, who is tasked to return her home. Only Edana has other notions - and convinces him and his companions to allow her to use her abilities to locate her brothers who are manacled in a dungeon somewhere. Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.

She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

Taming the Wild Highlander is Edana and Angus’ romantic adventure. Edana has a touch of the fae in her. She has the ability to hear the people she cares about when they are in danger. So when Edana hears her brothers call out to her she runs to her father. Unfortunately he does not believe her and so she leaves with an escort to go after them.

Angus has been giving the task of bringing the wayward lass home. But Edana convinces him that her brothers are in danger so they come up with a plan to rescue them. Not a bad plan since this means Angus can spend more time with the lovely Edana…

Well I have to say that this one is one of my top favorite stories in this series. Love the mixture of paranormal with suspense and romance. Ms. Spears really knows how to craft a story and this one is a winner in my book. Taming the Wild Highlander is the fourth in the Highlanders series and I am so looking forward to the next book!

THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE AUDIOBOOK EDITION
Original Post:
http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

Audiobook provided by author for fair review. No remuneration was exchanged, and all opinions presented herein are my own unless other wise noted.

I am trying to listen to more audiobooks this year. It seems the prevalence of assorted personal electronic devices and a lack of time have combined to make audiobooks more popular than ever. In general however, I can’t just sit and listen to a book, I often feel like I need to read a book (kind of defeats the purpose), or at least do something with my hands or exercise.

So, Friday, after reading so much last week my eyes were ready for a day of rest, I was offered Terry Spear’s TAMING THE WILD HIGHLANDER, and I grabbed it. I enjoyed the story of a young, telepathic, beautiful, Highlands woman in an undesignated time in the past; a time when Scotland was still ruled by Lairds and Chieftains. There are elements of danger and even more of love.

Spear does a great job describing the characters we need to know: Edana (ee-dahn-ah) and Angus. They are both young, and although they had been attracted to each other even as children they do not know each other well. I like how the narration, through Borah Coburn’s speaking in the character’s voices, gave me even more sense of the characters. Edana sounds younger to me that the woman depicted on the book cover. And, while not a violent woman, she is fierce in the defense or protection of her loved ones, but not insensible to danger. She’s brave but not without fear.

And, he, perhaps because of the fact that his voice is being spoken by a woman and has feminine undertones, sounds young, but not immature. And, I could only imagine how handsome he would be. And the narration, as well as Terry’s writing, gave life to the developing relationship between them.

In general, I like this form of audio book more than the one I looked at several weeks ago which was performed like a radio drama. Especially when there’s sex involved.

What was hard in this book in particular, without a text to read or look at, is the use of words from the Gaelic describing articles of clothing, and just looking at the book description, I see I had her maiden name completely wrong based on the pronunciation. For example there is an article of clothing that sounds like “lane.” Is it “lane” or spelled completely differently? While this is occasionally troublesome in a printed book, at least I have something I can look up and know I have it right. Fortunately, in this case it came up when I searched on another article of clothing mentioned (a brat) and what I thought was “lane” is actually "leine" (http://www.clans.org.uk/kilts_2.html).

In this case, I think I would have preferred to have had a companion text (a new feature being offered for an additional amount when you buy an audible audio book), or even a note attached to the file would work for me. On the other hand I often wonder how the Gaelic words are pronounced in Highlander and Celtic fiction. Hearing right from the character’s mouth clears it up!

I enjoyed this story even more than I have Terry Spear’s wolf shifter series. While there is an element of the paranormal in the story, and it is an important part of the plot, it is not overplayed. It was more matter of fact than mystical. It was important because even though it is useful, some people wouldn’t be able to understand it as natural and might denounce her for it and it does turn out as very useful. Angus could be perfect for her, has a family full of "freaky" women so it doesn’t bother him.

There is a somewhat funny bondage scene in the story. I prefer to think of it as a tongue-in-cheek statement about the prevalence of BDSM in almost all romance these days instead of a token BDSM insertion.

The test is whether I would have read the book and enjoyed it. Yes, although I believe this book is enhanced by the narration and the narrator. If you like stories set in the Highlands, filled with hunky warriors and brave women, then this book, filled with those elements plus a little ESP, may be a bonny idea. I recommend this audiobook for its excellent story and narration.

The youngest MacNeill brother, Angus, comes into his own with "Taming the Wild Highlander, the fourth book in author Terry Spear's Medieval-Era "Highlanders" series. As a youth, Angus MacNeill had become enchanted with young Edana Chattan, who was said to have been "touched by the Fae"--the sum of her powers unknown. The Chattans and MacNeills were friendly clans, and the sons and daughters of the clan families would gather together, although Angus was too shy to speak to Edana. Years later, as a man battle-proven in the Crusades alongside his brothers, Angus will be called upon to find and bring home the missing Edana. Both blessed and cursed with the power of mental telepathy, Edana had received a plea for help from her brothers, who had gone to visit a cousin. Something was desperately wrong, and none of her five brothers had returned, so they were all in peril. Due to a misunderstanding with her father, she could not tell him of the messages she was hearing from her brothers, and she set off to rescue them herself. When Laird Chattan realized that all of his sons and his daughter were unaccounted for, he asked the MacNeills for their help. Angus set off to find Edana, beginning a fateful journey which will change their lives forever. When Angus and his men find Edana, they insist upon returning her to her father and then going to search for her brothers. After much pleading, Edana convinces Angus that they must not waste time, and she must go with them. More than ever under the spell of his attraction to her, he enjoys the time spent with Edana. She also finds Angus quite appealing--she has never known the attention of a young man--they were all afraid of her supernatural abilities. Angus puts together a plan to seek entry to the castle where they think the Chattan brothers are being held. He and Edana will pose as husband and wife, travelers seeking hospitality from the laird of the keep. Their plans go much astray however, and eventually they must marry for real, something to which neither one truly objects. Angus has long held Edana in his heart, and she cares deeply for him as well. Not everyone is happy about their union, and there is one who will not rest until he has Edana for his own. Angus will let no other man claim his wife--only he will be the one to tame his "Wild Highlander Bride". A rousing historical romance with added elements of suspense and the paranormal. Another entertaining saga featuring the MacNeill brothers from author Terry Spear.

This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will say with a promise that it will not be the last. I realize I started the series from the end but the book did well in standing on its own. It only made me want to go back to the beginning and begin the first one.

The hero and heroine were perfect for each other. A touch of paranormal filled with intrigue and romance with feeling and emotions. Humor, passion, romance, and suspense all in one book.

The heroine is a strong take charge person in a time when this was an oddity. Add to that her special gifts and a neighboring clan who thinks they must stop her to protect her and you have a very interesting adventure.

The hero meets the heroine when they are children but she really never leaves his mind, although he doesn't like to admit to it. He is a strong and perfect match for her character.

The adventure begins early and continues throughout with the couple having to pretend to be man and wife, which says enough within itself. Add to the adventure humor, steamy passion, humor and romance and you have a satisfying read. I didn't want the book to end and I really look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Although I read this book first there was no confusion within the story from not reading the others in the series first. But it without a doubt made me add the others to the top of my to be read list. This is one author that will be added to my favorites list.

Edana Chattan has been touched by the fae and knows when people she cares about are in danger. When she hears her brothers’ whispers in her head about danger and dungeons, she tries to tell her father, but her attempts fail and she sets out to save them herself. She is separated from her escort during a storm, and found by Angus MacNeil, who’s been tasked with returning her home safely. Angus met Edana years before and had been intrigued by her, but never approached her.

Edana convinces him and his companions of her abilities, and her need to accompany them in order to find her brothers. Angus never expected this adventure to lead into a faux marriage with Edana, and spending time in a dungeon, among other adventures. Angus is in over his head, but it doesn’t stop him from truly trying to win the lady’s hand for all time.
This is the fourth book in the series of the Highlanders. You do not need to read the stories in order, but you won’t want to miss the other tales.

I loved the banter between Edana and Angus--so cute. Ms. Spear does know how to make you fall in love with her characters, and her descriptions put you right there in the highlands with her characters. This is the fourth book in the series of the Highlanders. You don't have to read the stories in order, but you won’t want to miss the other tales.

Book 1 Winning the Highlander's Heart - Anice and Malcolm MacNeill
Book 2 The Accidental Highland Hero - Eilis Dunbarton and James MacNeill (This one is my favorite.)
Book 3 Highland Rake - Alana Cameron and Dougald MacNeill
Book 4 Taming the Wild Highlander - Edana Chattan and Angus MacNeill

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***Received a code from the author to listen to and review the audio version of the book

The cover is beautiful, but Terry’s covers are always awesome :) I’ll take one Highlander please :)

I got this quite a while ago, but I hadn’t had a chance to listen to it until I was stuck on a mower for 6 plus hours doing two overgrown fields on my property. I am not one for historical romances, and I usually avoid them. I should definitely know better when it comes to Terry Spear because she always makes it exciting, fun, and sexy. This is the 4th book in this series, but the only one in this series that I have read (well listened to but same thing)! This is for adults only due to the steamy content.

Edana is a loyal and feisty woman which I love because I want to love my main characters :) Angus is the typical alpha male trying to be in control, but he folds like a table with Edana, and I love it!! There is tons of action, twists and turns, and treachery to keep you entranced whether you are reading or listening.

The narrator was fantastic, and I especially loved that she spoke with the Scottish accent!!

I highly recommend Terry Spear as an amazing author no matter what genre she writes because I haven’t found anything she’s written that I didn’t totally enjoy. I especially recommend trying this book even if you usually run away from historical books like I usually do. Now I’m sad because I have run out of Terry audiobooks, I really need to put audiobooks in my budget!!

Good read, could've done without the last chapter even with it being different from the other scenes. Mostly because it was still basic as if missionary and finger play were the only forms of sex then. I'd really like to read about the surprise in different forms seeing that the series has been pretty much the same.

The story might be great but the narrator is intolerable. Her main narration is in her American accent and the rest is in Scottish. That is enough to take me out of the book, but her Scottish accents are terrible!. THe male voices are especially bad. I can't tell who is speaking and no one has any emotion in their voices.

***THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE AUDIO VERSION OF TAMING THE WILD HIGHLANDER***

Taming The Wild Highlander was a yummy Highland romance that kept me riveted from beginning to the end. Listening to the Highland brogue as opposed to reading it for the first time was a delightful treat and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves reads featuring Highlanders. It will add a whole new delectable dimension to your repertoire hearing the Celtic lilt vocalized. Warning! You may find yourself picking up some of the dialect afterwards. I personally like saying arse now instead of ass. :-) The narrator did an excellent job and this has been one of my very favorite audio reads. I didn't want it to ever end.

Angus' and Edana's story was tender, heartfelt and moving. Angus was a yummy hero, strong, honest, loyal and wholeheartedly luscious every inch a Highlander. I loved the Fae and Celtic folklore interspersed within along with the depictions of the region, the castles, the clothing, and more. The romance positively sizzled while the plot boiled. Add in a faux marriage and dungeons and the fiery, determined lass and this book was utterly bewitching.

With this story, I found new ways to listen to audio books. Before, I was only listening while running/walking a local intercoastal waterway. I couldn't stand, though, to only listen every other day to this book so I started listening while driving and found that even short commutes became pleasurable! Then... I found I could enjoy it while gardening and cooking and showering. So... this book helped to open my eyes to new ways to listen to books!

Terry Spear's books are all must-reads for me. Every one of her books have been wonderful and this one is a another winner!

I found a couple of her books on the clearance shelf at the used book store, so I decided to give 'em a go. The plot seemed promising and I was intrigued by the characters-- for a few pages. The pacing of the over all story was way, way too fast and didn't give the reader time to really connect. Sometimes there are even entire jumps where days pass in a single line and it just feels unsettled. And the back and forth of certain issues (the marriage) was just annoying and frustrating and didn't seem at all plausible. The entire romance wasn't all that compelling in general.

I might end up reading the other book I actually own, but this book is definitely going back to the used book store.

Likable protagonists and the plot moved at a good pace. I could have done without the final love scene as it added nothing to the story.
