Rise From The Ashes: Lena's Story:
Laura Franklin

When the world is about to shatter, the lives of so many taken and the ones responsible just beginning how can anything or anyone be saved? Terrorist attacks are not uncommon but when the Taliban take it too far and bomb the US with a chemical agent the end result is more than just catastrophic. Killing, obliterating and decimating entire populations of so many states and leaving the US in more than just disarray, those who are left are dumbfo

This is the sort of post-apocalyptic drama that is right up my street so I gladly accepted the offer of a complimentary copy for review. Most of the world has been hit by multiple and simultaneous chemical strikes that has killed 50% of their populations and left them without functioning government or an kind of structure.

We follow the titular Lena (Lean-ah not Lane-ah), an otherwise unremarkable 19 year old PR student from small town Massachusetts as her diary begins three days after the attack

Several explosions have detonated along the eastern seaboard. News comes of similar attacks all over the country. As confused citizens and officials attempt to fathom what caused the calamity, a strange sickness overtakes a large chunk of the population. Like a plague, the sickness sweeps the country quickly killing a large chunk of the populace. Those left behind soon determine that they are immune to the sickness, but it's too late to restore order. Gangs of opportunistic thugs have begun stak ...more

Rise from the Ashes: Lena’s Story is the story of the survivors of a terrorist attack. After the Taliban bombed the US with a chemical agent everything is destroyed and only few were left to fight for their lives in the new world.

This is a fast and changing story with interesting characters, great scenarios and believable situations. However there were a few things I didn’t enjoy that much.

Let me start with the plot, in a world where we live with the permanent threat of the next World War, is

I have always loved a good dystopic novel, haven't you? I have to tell you though this book is short (its only around 50000 words or 162 pages), it was well written and captivating. We are thrust into the middle of the chaos, but we still get to know our characters and admire, respect and love them. They show courage and strong will in times of great distress when everything they know is being tested, which is something many people probably wouldn't be able to do if we were faced with a situatio ...more

I brought this book on the recommendation of a friend. It reminded me a great deal of the film Red Dawn. The scenarios in the book are believable with looters and opportunists. Dirty bombs have killed the majority of people and had a different effect on the survivors that we find out later in the book. Of course I will not mention what that is as it would give part of the plot away. The story focuses on several people, although it starts as being a first person view to show that the story is mai ...more

A book about a hot girl and Private from the Army fighting their way to near Canada to link up with a group of soldiers preparing to take back the country (piece by piece) in true post apocalyptic fashion is very very enticing. If there was a code word for the book it would be Phoenix (since they rise from the ashes of their earlier ancestor).
