Allie has held a brightly burning torch for Wade since college. They were part of a writing group together, and everything about those days with him and their friends Kitty and Cameron fills her with longing. When their former Professor leaves them his rambling mansion in his will, it's a chance for them to reunite. But there's more than friendship bubbling beneath the sur ...more

My second read of 2016, and it was another deliciously hot one. I love Charlotte Stein's writing, especially her meticulously crafted first person narrations and thrilling, kinky erotic scenes. She has a thing for writing tense, repressed subby men, and sort of fumbling-into-dominance women. It's endearing, and at times funny, but never in a "laughing at them" way. Instead, Stein takes everything uncomfortable and awkward about sex and makes it all part of the erotic thrill. She's a unique voice ...more
Covers similar territory as Control (first-person heroine falling into the dominant role, extraordinarily repressed hero, and other people adding emotional/sexual complications) but with additional post-college friendships emotional minefields. I was engrossed x1000000, but I kept tripping up on some clunky writing and a couple times, my primary thought was, "Okay, this is just porn now. Get back to the emotional complications!" (But, also, the scene crammed with more sex than one can shake a st ...more

"He did say that thing about preferring giving over receiving- probably because he's a god sent from the heavens to stun us mortal women into submission"

Unfortunately I was not stunned into submission by this book. I loved the first book I read by Charlotte Stein (Control) and thought this would be a good book to get me out of my reading funk. Sadly not.

It has all the markings of a good erotic novel, particularly its similarities to control in that the male lead is shy, relectuant and

I enjoy Charlotte Stein's writing. Her narrators make me laugh, descriptions are fresh, and the love scenes are always filthy hot. Plus, she does beta heroes well. I will say this one read more like erotic fantasy than a full romance as probably 80% of the book was the sex. And usually back to back sex scenes in my erotic romances lead to me skipping pages because it can be overkill, all the scenes blending together. But the tension and angst between the characters is kept high in this one, whic ...more

Escapist erotica that still manages to pinpoint those very real post-college feelings and attempts to navigate relationships as a young adult. As in, this totally happened to me and I felt the same way! Except for the foursome part! But THAT would have been really fun too!

If you want a book filled with sex, including three-some & four-somes, this is your book. Very shallow characters and very little character development.

Allie, Kitty, Wade, and Cameron are all members of the Candy Club. A long time ago, they used to spend long weekends at Professor Warren's mansion. They would spend their time telling stories (all good but naughty). So it was not really a surprise when the professor died and left the mansion to the group. The Candy Club decides to go to the mansion for some story time and maybe more.

I have read many, many erotic novels. While all of them pretty much have the same theme, there are always somethi

I should have reviewed this as soon as I read it, but the truth is I have re-read it several times. As ever, top notch erotica from Charlotte Stein. An interesting premise and four well formed characters. Woven within the main story is the characters own erotica, almost like a book within a book and in a subtlety different voice. It's a clever book. Her mastery of language and metaphor and humour is also second to none. And, naturally, absolutely off the charts sex. Long may she continue to writ ...more

The first 10% was hard to get through. It's taken me several tries to make it past that point and continue. But, happily, I will report that after 10% it takes off like a shot and it's a complete fuck-fest. Ho-ly Shit! This is pretty kinky. We've got a little masturbation scenes, voyeur scenes, M/M, menage, dirty talk, reading kinky fantasies aloud, D/s and some f/f elements. Kinda hard to be bored with all that going on. Still, not my favorite C.S.

Well, certainly one of the dirtier of Charlotte Stein's repertoire *thought I still think Make Me was the best* but some of the characters here were a bit flat for me. Luckily Cameron and Allie saved it, and I'm pretty damn sure I read most of it with my mouth hanging open, so there's that.
DNF 20% taking characters too long to get to the sex (Chapter 4). ThIs book has 14 chapters and five people, all I ask in a good mature audience book is...GET to the COPULATION by the second chapter.

I saw someone describe Stein's particular brand of erotic romance as neurotic romance and yes that is an excellent description I'll go with that.
This review contains vague spoilers about sex content, but no plot spoilers. Also note that the book itself has a big spoiler about the Earthesea Cycle series, which took me off guard.

This was a kind of "literary" erotic story, about four college friends who are reunited when a professor they liked dies and wills them his house. I say "literary" not because of its vocabulary or prose style, but because of its themes and because the backstory is about how they experimented with writing erotic sto

My heart was pounding to near bursting at the end of this incredible, delicious, dreamy, and creamy story!

Charlotte Stein is a master of her craft. She is in a league all her own...All of us should applaud her and her prowess!

From the get-go, I was held entranced. Each word spoke to me and while there was the story-within-a-story bit, I found myself falling into this profound world and desperately wanting to be Allie. Allie is our he

Telling Tales read like the precursors to a lot of Stein's later, groundbreaking work.

There were bits of Addicted in there with four friends who are budding authors writing and sharing smut. My issue with Addicted was that the stories being written were hotter than the story being told. Same issue here. There were shades of Make Me with college friends, all secretly attracted to each other, being thrown together and sexy times ensue. There were even tidbits of Control, which I adore, with one o

Charlotte Stein is known for her deeply emotional, unbarred perspective on passion and sex in her stories. TELLING TALES follows along the same lines. Allie and a few of her college friends go to visit a mansion that their good professor passed on to them in his will. Reunited with her friends puts her in close proximity to the man she has always held a torch for.

Wade is the kind of man who always gets what he wants. But perhaps it is a case of being too late when Allie finds an interes

Audio version.

This has been my week for former favourite author disappointment.

This story is exceedingly contrived.
Stein's other stories were always grounded in the plausible, the credible, the realistic. And I like realism in my Contemporary works. If I want Fantasy I'll select that genre.

The work is disgustingly meta.
Seriously, editors should tell writers tempted who take on this tactic to take a rest. Writing for writing sake about writing and having the writing reflect the writing immersed

One of my overall favorites. I've read it countless times! I love her descriptions that take place 'in the moment' and the stories that are tucked into the story are great, too. In fact - I wondered if her book Guarded was written with one of those concepts in mind. If she'd just take that little story that's tucked away in there and write it into it's own short people would love it :) With Stein there's no questioning her logic and reasoning when it comes to her premises. She's infallible.

There were times where the MC's inner ramblings got on my nerves but this is a short story so it doesn't take long to get to the good parts. Holy dirty, steaming hot sex scenes that had me dropping my jaw! *fans self*

This is a short book but man is it hot. Four friends return to a house owned by their professor. They stay for 1 month and they stay busy, with each other. The story and characters are hot and fun.

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for ARC.

I was told to read this because it was "hot and dirty". Which is true. It had a lot more heart than I was expecting. But yeah, def hot and dirty. In all the best ways.

Oh my, oh my, oh my :D such a crazy whirlwind of a story that took me by surprise because hey, best friends can touch each other, can't they? :)
I could not care about anyone or anything in this book. In the past, I've liked Charlotte Stein because of the her quirky characters and humor. I was pretty bored.

Do you like your romance stories on the steamy side? Well, friend, this is the book for you.
Allie (whose POV feeds the book), Kitty, Cam, and Wade were friends in college. They loved to get together and tell sexy stories to each other. Their favorite place to do this was their professor’s mansion. Years later, the professor has died and left the house to them in his will, so they decide to gather once more. Not everyone thinks this is a good idea, including Allie, but off they go.

This story was so engrossing. It's told first person and it's so full and intriguing. There's a lot of things happening inside the heroine's mind, she's so complex and confused. Although the romance is technically between two people, there are four individuals working through this single relationship. That makes for a lot of creative sexual exploration.

Allie was in love with Wade all through college, but hasn't seen him in five years. When their old college professor leaves
