When we read an English translation of the Bible we define the words within it according to our modern vocabulary allowing our culture and language to influence how we read and interpret the Bible. The Bible was written by ancient Hebrews whose culture and language was very different from our own and must be read and interpreted through their eyes. When we define the names of God using our culture and language we lose the Hebraic meanings behind the original Hebrew names of God. Consequently the true nature and character of God is hidden behind the veil of time and culture. By understanding the various names of God through the vocabulary and language of the ancient Hebrews, the nature and character of God is revealed to us in a new light. The prophet Zechariah described the character of God with the words "sh'mo ehhad" translated as His Name is One (Zechariah 14:9). This phrase beautifully describes the character of God from a Hebraic perspective that is lost to us through translation and unfamiliarity with ancient Hebrew culture.
I love the book. It opens the door to the reader to the ancient Hebraic world of the writings in the Scriptures. Through the meaning of the words and the understanding of the Hebraic thoughts, I was able to understand the real meaning of the passages presented, the character of God, who we are in Him and how we should walk in life.
I recommend it to anyone seeking more knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures as a starting point in the way to discover what’s in it that we must grab to then share with others. Let it penetrate our Western minds and let it reach good ground for the seed to be planted and grow in us in a way that serves as the tree giving good shadow to the ones in the way...
I recently came to realize how much I have missed as a Christian for the last 47 years by not understanding the scriptures from the Hebrew original meanings. So, this book has really supported my own research which includes my study of Hebrew and even some initial introduction to paleo Hebrew. I have ordered the physical book so that I can serve as a resource for future research and learning. I am very grateful to understand even more from this book that I had yet not been exposed to. I know that I will be reading this more than once.
The organization and formatting of the book leave something to be desired and this book feels like a text book at times. However, the information therein helps me see God more clearly.
This is the best book I have ever read that helped me to better understand the bible. To see it the way the ancient Hebrew people understood it . The book is written simply and is easy to understand and I believe every Christian should read it .
This was an astonishing teaching and it shed new light on my learning. English translators do their best but the Hebrew language has so much in store for us. Thank you Jeff!
Seperti sub judulnya, membagikan sudut pandang ibrani kuno tentang Nama Elohim Israel ini. Penerangan kata 'Nama', dan nama-nama Tuhan yang pernah di sebut di PL sampai kata 'Satu' dikupas detail sampai pada kesimpulan akhir. His Name is One(unity).
This book was fascinating and radically changed the way I view God and the Old Testament Scriptures - I can approach them with much more of a Hebraic mindset, and now I'm seeing things that I would never have previously seen. Great book
