Leagues apart in society, they can have only one possible future, that of protector and mistress...

Jeanne Darling spent her adolescence coping with her father's increasing illness and insanity. Left alone by his death and plunged into poverty, she did what she had to do to survive. Now still reeling from the overwhelming physical and emotional demands her father's care required, she values her peace above all. She doesn't need anyone or anything except her writing and the safety of her rented garret chamber. She's about to rise above her past and create financial independence for herself. What she absolutely does not need is the mysterious and possibly insane stranger who walks into the coffee shop and into her life.

David Somerville, the Duke of Hartley, has known pain and betrayal from the people closest to him. Born to privilege, power and wealth, and filled with idealistic vision for humane change, he gives all of himself to his political career. He keeps his life circumspectly under control. But one day, all the carefully arranged threads of his life unravel and his life intersects with Jeanne's in a way that challenges his view of everything he thinks he knows.

Leagues apart in society, they can have only one possible future, that of protector and mistress. And neither wants to risk deeper connection. However, their overwhelming attraction and resulting sexual games provide them with pleasures neither of them has ever known. Will their sensual journey lead them to discover a more emotionally profound side to domination and submission? Or will their seemingly insurmountable differences and passionate personal goals drive them apart?

I liked how the author addressed these issues: a) Is love enough to sustain a romantic relationship? and b) What does it mean to truly love? Turns out the first question depends on the answer to the second: accepting someone for who they are seems the key to sustaining a relationship. David accepts that loving Jeanne means loving her unconditionally, while Jeanne finally realizes that she will do anything, even face her fears to be a true partner for David. Their relationship progressed in believable stages, with the highs and lows expected between two people with noticeable differences in their attitudes, social status and age (17 years).

Compelling as this was, I felt the writing lacked some emotional depth. I knew Jeanne and David loved each other, but I didn't completely feel what they were feeling. Access to their inner feelings (compassion, tenderness, longing, angst) seemed sparse. The sex, on the other hand, was not in short supply. It was frequent yet not consistently steamy. After a while some scenes, especially the spanking ones, even became a bit tiresome and repetitive because they didn't seem to develop David and Jeanne's relationship further. Of course, that could just be my bias speaking as I'm not a big fan of spanking as foreplay.

My least favorite book by Natasha Blackthorne so far, but still a satisfying read.

Dead gods,I hated hated, hated this book!!!!

Did I say I hated it ?
Well then let me say it again !
I F’ing HATED IT !!!!!!
Do I consider myself a feminist ?
No. No,not really but I respect strong women and while I know strength comes in all shapes, sizes, forms and ways, I don’t call a woman strong who’s smart but brittle one minute and falling all over herself to get some dick the next.

Ok,we have this girl who’s ad a rough go of it in her short 21 years old life. Lost her mother young, then had to spend years nursing a narcissistic father while he went slowly insane. Then she had to use her body to get by in the world .
We’d like to think that type or story lie was only for the olden days way back when bad sadly that type of story line plays out for both men and women, girls AND boys all around the world .
Sadly, their might be a child having to live that out in you neighborhood or living in your apartment building.
So when this story starts I had a lot of compassion for her overly compassionate heart ♥️ wanting to help this crazed and fevered stranger who in his state thinks she’s someone else and causes her trouble. The supposed “H” brought back some really horrible memories and near,y froze her with fear at first . I was touched by her caring. To bring a stranger into your home when your a,ready poor as a damn church mouse and try and nurse him back to health after what you’ve already been thru?
Damn, except for the carnal thoughts after she strips him down to care for him,it’s a bit beyond what even the good Samaritan from the Bible did.
But then barely on the mind it turns kinky into mild BDSM,with spanking, and being tied up.
Seriously??!?!?!
I’m thinking ,this girl doesn’t know Jack about this guy and she’s not wanting a relationship with anyone after the life she’s led but hey, give her a sexy body to look at and a commanding voice and she’s suddenly submissive.
WTF/WTH!?!?!?
No discussions . No limits. No rules. Just ,yes please.
Then of course , when it’s time to go they have one last F for the road abs he’s gone. That is until he feels the need to play savior on his terms . You know gotta Dave her from herself and the cold cruel world . Ignoring the face he’s a proud card carrying member of said cruelty . Sends a man to her with an insulting offer. Come be my kept woman but never try to know me or contact me. I get to tell myself I’m a hero helping the poor girl, get a play toy when I want and all is well with the world . That is tell she’s has the balls to refuse and wounds my pride and I run to a hore house. Later I offer again. Wound pride and all. We F. She still says No!
She loses her job as a writer because of our association with me,then I trick into going into the house and try and F her into submission.
Seriously,WHAT . THE. F!?!?!?
Lil woman isn’t allowed to NOT want to be a mistress. Not allowed to want to run her own life. No!!!!!!
Stupid lil B, has to turn into a mindless manipulated pile of goo with doormat printed in her forehead because he pulls ur his dick. He’s giving her commands in that voice and suddenly she has no will of her own and is just ripe to be F’ed into doing what ever he wants.
F that sh t. I can’t stand books where you tell me the woman is strong but she only is til the duck of the story wants to use sex to bend her to his will to fit his wants and his needs. Then I’m what supposed to find it unbearably sexy or something ?
Yeah,no!
She’s a ho but he’s her savior for manipulating her into this.
No,just No!
I got to 46% and I was soo angry I stopped . I wanted to shake some sense into her and I wanted to throat punch him after I’d hit him between the legs with a baseball bat. Use you magic dick now you S.O.B.
Skipped to the end where he’s now married to her but she’s recovering from a beating someone gave her because he’d gotten pissed and gone off abs left her somewhere abs jealous a holes from his life has attacked her.
Her savior my A.
I thought I’d read this crap before and liked it,either I’m dumb, naïve or forgetful, not sure which.
This might be your thing but fickle manipulative jerks with savior complex’s don’t do it for me.
Can’t wait to delete .

Jeanne Darling was an amazing and strong female character. She did what had to be done to support and treat her insane father, including using her body to pay for rent and treatment.

After he passes, Jeanne is left alone in the world. A struggling and inspiring author of children books, she tries to make ends meet to the best of her abilities.

While out about in town, a man approaches her calling her by Therese, at first she believes he is insane, much like her father had been, but she soon realizes he is with fever and takes him back to her place, to nurse him back to good health. She finds this burning in her skin, this want for this man, as she is wiping him down with a cool cloth to ease the fever.

A sexual encounter with this sick man called David, turns Jeanne's world upside down, she has never needed or wanted a man so much and she learns that he too, wants for her.

The story started out great but at about halfway fell flat, got slow and rather frustrating. When two equally jaded, disillusioned people come together in lust, things don't really go well for me as a Romance reader. Even though they were in lust, at times, I saw the flickers of hope for them which made me keep reading. But the more pages I read, the more misunderstanding happened. More confusion, hurt and more awkwardness, hence I couldn't enjoy this as much as I hoped I would. Even till the chapter before the last I didn't know if our H and h would have a HEA. The writing also bothered me, which IMO needed good editing. Disappointing.

I have to be in the right mood for books like this- otherwise it's so cheesy I just can’t take it seriously. This was by no means terrible, but I wouldn’t read it again. I prefer to have the characters offer some self-control, otherwise it’s too easy- no challenge between them makes for a boring read. The stubborn aspect gets old too quickly and doesn't really qualify (for me) as a challenge- its an easy out....

Her Mystery Duke, by Natasha Blackthorne. This book gave me pleasure to reading a very erotic romance book. The leading characters, David and Jeanne has such strong and powerful roles. They will leave you begging for more. The drama.
The passion and the raw erotic love scenes plays out with wicked pleasure. How these two meet is all to romantic. David comes to Jeanne, believing her to be someone from his past. Jeanne tries to avoid him through the streets of London, but fate has other plans. Suddenly, David has been taken to Jeanne's home and their world wind love takes flight.
Through their relationship, they tread through rough times, that challenges them selves and the love that they have for one another. I would have liked for Jeanne to be a little older. There are some scenes from the book that I felt she played the immature woman. I also would have liked a little less of Jeanne being on her knees giving David pleasure. Other than that, I enjoyed this story. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

I just loved this book. I was browsing around & came across this historical gem. It is set in the ealy 1800's.
I loved Jeanne Darling (she was a darling!) An authoress of children's stories on her own, poor and surviving due to gentlemen's favors (after her care and then subsequent death of her insane Father.) I also love David Somerville, the stuffy, alpha Duke of Hartley who also turned out to be such a tender soul.
Jeanne was finding out her passion for writing "children's fairie stories" was about to be published after one more story, when David appears on the streets of Whitechapel (not his part of town for sure!) due to what we are led to believe at first is Parliament intrigue (the Duke is is member) but later find out it is something else entirely (I can't say!) The Duke appears with a feverish amnesia calling Jeanne by the name of Therese (his previous mistress) and what can a girl like Ms. Darling do but to take charge of his well-being and nurse him back to health?! This book had quite a few twists. Love that!
I also love the BDSM elements which were told in a couple's exploratory fashion which I thought was quite believable. It was nice to see Ms. Darling admit her sensual nature to David. He doesn't shame her for this of course! Oh no, he wants to train her! With her approval naturally!
The ending was sort of unexpected (at least for me) so it made this story even better.
Tender moments, HOT BONDAGE, feisty heroine, A Duke who realizes just in time hat an exemplary woman he has. Everything a good erotic historical novel should have. 4 thumbs up! I want to see Ms. Blackthorne's other offerings! ;)

3.5 Insane Stars

description

This was a Historical Erotic Read with elements of kink and BDSM. Quite liked the story line for this one. I was abit impatient at the beginning wishing it got to the heart of the matter and I left it on hold twice before i picked it up again and read through it. Jeanne was a poor girl trying to make ends meet and the story follows the topic on mistaken identity, lust, insanity & acceptance.

Recommends it to those who like erotica in Historicals!

It was a good book, but nothing else. There wasn't any serious problems, but it felt too average for me. Okay, the sex was pretty good, but I need more. I need more personality, less brat (Joanne). Still it was good.
It's more like a 3,5 star, but I'm in a good mood.

DNF at 82%. I feel like I should skim this to the end but I cannot remember what is happening.

The meet-cute is quite outlandish. High and mighty lord is in a flu fugue state and mistakes the impoverished heroine for a past mistress. He ends up fainting or something and she takes him back to her place to nurse him back to health. Upon his recovery, they slide into an affair. Like he is on the sick bed and they do it like what sir. But she was down. Some of the angst is erotic but it felt similar to and a pale imitation to Blackthorne's other works.

Toovey or not Toovey

Great storytelling lovely characters hard to put down book concerning a Duke a writer and some slightly deranged people including a publisher a writer and a Lord. I love Natasha Blackthorne's work and look forward to the next one.

It's well written and the sex scenes are spicy, but it's not a fun book to read. The heroine is so depressed, insecure, and anxious that it really brought down the plot. This is a hard erotica, but everything outside the sex was so serious and not enjoyable.

A very steamy, passionate and emotion filled romance. The story flowed well and I was definitely on the side of David and Jeanne finding their happy ending. I enjoyed their journey, finding their way to happiness isn't easy, you could say a very satisfying happily ever after.

Smokin' Hot Regency!

A cruel trick followed by an act of compassion and fear for his life brings Jeanne Darling into the life of a man named David.

It's the early 1800's London and Jeanne is a struggling writer, making ends meet and supporting her insane father's confinement with the "help" in return for sexual favors, of a few men while she writes. She has the promise of a publisher, and extremely modest life but an independent one. Then she stops to help a man who could be either deranged or ill. Not knowing and fearing for his safety she takes him to her garett room. Thus begins a tender, extremely sensual relationship with a man who draws lines in the sand that Jeanne eagerly welcomes as she learns what true sexual freedom means for her.

The book shows a wonderful progression of an unusual relationship between Jeanne an David, especially with the social gap between them. He begins to want more than to put her in the jewel box of a mistress, and to be with him she eventually accepts. But she resists his desire for her to change and be more involved in his life, especially his political crusade on behalf of the insane. This almost breaks them apart. The ending is a lovely one, and it doesn't tie up all the issues with a halcyon outlook. It's pretty clear they will still have challenges to work through, but together.

The sex was seriously erotic and totally appropriate. David was a very thoughtful and firm dominant lover to Jeanne's flowering and opening submissive. For me the best dominant is an observant and thoughtful one with, and a good BDSM story has to have this type of dominant man, in control of his own desires, highly aware of and responsive to his submissive's needs and cues, and insistent on honest communication of feelings from both sides. After reading A Measured Risk and after Reading her Mystery Duke, I had the same desire - I want a man like that for my own!

A very entertaining, surprising, touching and addictive erotic historical romance that even readers that do not enjoy the historical genre much, or even at all will fully enjoy! Especially with the perfect touch of BDSM that Natasha has wound in the pages. Erotic indeed!

Jeanna is a very independent woman. She had to be due to her father’s illness. She writes (among other things) to live and survive. She’s been alone and fine with it for quite a while. That is until the day she meets a mysterious stranger that thinks she is another and shows her things she finds her body yearns for.
David is a handsome, intelligent Duke that luckily was in the right place at a very needy time and happy beyond words with his savior. There are quite a few things going on in his life that prevents him from taking on a woman full time or even considering marriage. But for some odd reason, he cannot picture his life without Jeanna in it. The question is, how?

Together there is a passion ignited like no other and an amazing completion that is felt throughout the pages. As well as an ending that will leave you with the very happiest of tears. I LOVE Natasha’s writing! So vivid and exciting it keeps you turning the pages until, before you know it. It’s the end and you’re left wanting more in the very best of ways ;)

Her Mystery Duke is a fantastic historical romance, it is also an outstanding erotic romance together they are one of the better books out so far this year. Ms. Blackthore as always provides a pretty accurate historical while ramping up the romance to the hotter end of the spectrum.

Ms. Blackthorne gives us a wonderful independent heroine, Jeanne, who wants nothing more than to take care of herself and not lose her identity by becoming someones wife or mistress. David is everything you expect from a Regency era Duke but so much more, he is aloof and demanding at the same time very protective and understanding. By allowing the characters pasts to be unfolded throughout the story we are drawn deeper into them and understand there motivations and fears.

The BDSM in this book is of the light variety more bedroom bondage and some spankings no protocol, humiliation or Master/slave situations. We are treated to many extremely seductive sensual scenes throughout the book as we follow the relationship, political intrigue, class struggles as well as the forming of a unique bond between David and Jeanne.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

HER MYSTERY DUKE by Natasha Blackthorne is an exciting Erotic Regency historical romance set in 1813 England. Follow,David Somerville, the Duke of Hartley and Jeanne Darling on a journey of passion, sensuality, and love with a side trip of mental illness involved. While "Her Mystery Duke" is filled with explicit sensual scenes it also deals with mental illness, its effects on those who love them and the need for change. I enjoyed the fact "Her Mystery Duke" was not all about the sex and passion but about love, compassion, and tenderness. A quick read. *But be warned it does have BDSM,Explicit erotic scenes, anal play, spanking, domination, subsmission and some voyeurism.* Be prepared it is a scorcher. I would highly recommend "Her Mystery Duke" to readers of not only erotic romance, but those to enjoy a good romp through Regency London you won't be disappointed. Received for an honest review from the author.
RATING: 4.5
HEAT RATING:
Extremely Scorching: Frequent love scenes are extremely explicit, using graphic and direct language. May contain subject matter some readers may consider objectionable.(With BDSM, D/s)

Her Mystery Duke is an excellent novel with a believable heroine and good plot development. I enjoyed the erotic aspects of the book, and found the characters to be human but romanticized. The heroine is not a waif, but a full-figured young woman, who's life experiences before meeting the hero shape her, eroding her confidence in her own talents. The hero's interest in BDSM is appropriate to the time period of the novel. And never fear, there's a happy ending waiting for you.

I love Natasha Blackthorne's books. Her work stands out among historical erotic romance writers. I highly recommend this book.

This was a scorchingly hot read, however, it was too drawn out. I liked that it wasn't just erotica. that there was a story, a lesson, a plot. The love scenes were a 4 star. The dialogue and writing was good. It just started to bore me towards the end when it should have really captivated me. There was a lot of repeat descriptions and feelings. It got mundane reading how Jeanne didn't want to be a whore or how she had closed feelings. It felt like filler.

I give this one 3.75 stars. I didn't enjoy it as much as A Measured Risk, but I did enjoy it.
I loved Jeanne's character. I liked David's character, however, I thought that him being older and wiser, he would have helped Jeanne deal with her feelings/emotions quicker than he did. There was a twist in it that I kind of suspected something, but not what occurred. I would recommend it. :)
