Set is Lisbon and translated from the Portuguese. A stay-at-home dad, taking care of his son, is an aspiring playwright and occasional bit actor in local TV soaps. Fortunately his wife has a high-powered bureaucratic position and a serious income. While he waits for the phone to ring, he tends to get in trouble, by going to a prostitute, for example. And the prostitute ends up dead with him named a “person of interest” in her murder. A good read with a lot of local color of modern Lisbon.

This novel tumbles through its salacious plot, spending as much time in the protagonist's dreams as in his life. The murder mystery pales in comparison to the book mystery: What is real and what is imagined? I read all but the surprising last chapter in one sitting.
