The Loneliest Alpha

Rate this book
One look will change their lives forever.

Lingerie designer Alicia Clarkson just had to open her stupid mouth. Now thanks to trying to defend a fellow pack mate, Alicia’s been blindfolded, tied up, and carted off to the new alpha of the Oregon pack—Gavin MacKellen.

However, the blindfold doesn’t come off so soon as Gavin reveals he’s searching for a mate. But Alicia’s curiosity gets fired up when Gavin refuses to reveal his face to her. Just what happened to him? He talks to her from shadowy corners and behind closed doors. The man is as illusive as a squirrely fox. But Alicia doesn’t play games and the quiet spoken, hoarse voiced alpha doesn’t stand a chance against her. They settle on an agreement, thirty days for them to get to know each other because that’s the only way this cowboy alpha will have it.

Gavin MacKellen needs a mate. But he knows no good woman would ever want to look at his face after the incident he suffered. After one look at Alicia Clarkson all his plans fly out the window. The woman’s beauty has stunned him damn near speechless. She torments his thoughts and Gavin finds himself yearning to know everything about her. He admires her creativity and intelligence, the cool way she handles herself in stressful situations. Most of all, he aches deep in his chest to taste her lips. Those beautiful sweet lips, but in order to kiss her without showing her what a monster he was, he has to get creative.

A relationship forms and as love threatens to grow between them Gavin struggles to cope with his physical appearance in the face of the beautiful Alicia. Will she be the one to stand in the face of a monster and accept or will she turn her back on him as everyone else has?

3.8 Stars - a lovely Beauty & Beast story with minimal paranormal elements

I have always loved these Beauty and the Beast stories. There is some extra romantic over them. Is it possible that a beautiful woman chooses one (on the outside) really ugly man? It immediately becomes a large and so heartbreaking drama of it all.

We want so much to belive that magnificent beautiful love - to a beautiful soul and not just a beautiful appearance - will overcome everything. And precisely this offer actually this pleasant and entertaining novel us to experience again. It is tender, very romantic, funny and steamy - and I've got another fine Beauty and the Beast story to remember.
 photo soul_zps78c05039.jpg

The new alpha of the Oregon pack Gavin MacKellen needs a mate. But he knows no good woman would ever want to look at his face after the incident he suffered some months ago. He asks his alpha colleagues from other territories for some women to choose between to see if anyone wants him, and every alphas send him a female from their pack.
'People didn't much like looking at him now.'

Alicia Clarkson is an pretty and ambitious lingerie designer living in Arizona. Her alpha Josiah chose to send just her to Oregon and Alicia isn’t even asked and has not in any way agreed to be sent over as a possible mate. She just gets blindfolded, tied up, and carted off.

Arriving in Oregon, she is left and locked in a dark room without lights. A moment later, a man comes into the room. He stays in the shadows and start asking questions. Alicia is scared, angry and upset and want to see the face of the man she is talking to. But he would not even show it to her yet. First, they get to know each other.

Will Alicia be the one to stand in the face of a monster and accept or will she turn her back on him?...
 photo image_zps88a9c5a7.jpg

'It became difficult to breathe. This close, she caught his scent. It was fresh, masculine and smelled of something rugged and outdoors.'

This B&B theme is made for a hero who tries not to be visible to the heroine, some fear, a lot of misunderstandings, an heorine who trying to escape, talk behind closed doors, a growing attraction and kisses in dark corridors and at last big LOVE. But we'll have to wait. (I like that too). Of course there is also an enemy of the unknown perpetrator who destroyed Gavin's life (face) and his chance to be loved by a woman. Lot of steam, nice lovely romantic moments and some suspense. I enjoyed.

Really positive is that these two main characters are both experienced adults - I love that! It is also noteworthy that the paranormal elements are minimal. The lykaen's here don’t even shifts shape into wolves (or big cats…) as in most PNR novels. As my sweet friend Mo said ”It could have been a contemporary romance labeling.”

I suffer and cry with this lovely big strong hero Gavin, he is so anxious and has so hard to believe that he can be loved.
'She was everythig he could ever hope fo in a good woman - all fire and intelligence and strenght and creativity... and hell, she cooked. Fuck. He was screwed. Halfway in love with a woman who didn't even know the horror of his face.'

Alicia is a tough and funny girl and a heroine who is so easy to like. Here are two, to my taste, really lovely main characters. Also there are several second characters who are really nice to meet and hopefully we get more of their stories in the next book in the series. (Oh, Hanna, I hope you choose the tough biker guy. I must read your story...)

A quick read, easy to like and a good entertainment for the moment - for me anyway.

I LIKE - sweet romantic

“Sweetheart, I’m gonna f*ck you till you can’t see straight.”

So before I begin, "The Loneliest Alpha" takes place shortly after book six of the Kategan Alphas. Remember Vanessa Kategan and her marriage to Alpha Joseph Harrington? Well, this is the aftermath of what happens to his pack after he is murdered.

...............
Alicia Clarkson is a passionate lingerie maker who dreams of expanding her business. After opening her mouth by trying to save a female pack member she is then taken to another pack as a possible mate for the newly crowned alpha in Oregon.

Enter Gavin MacKellen. As an alpha, Gavin needs a mate to rule by his side but after a horrible incident that left permanent scars on his face who could even want to look or consider him? He scurries the country for possible brides and is instantly taken with Alicia the moment he lays eyes on her.

Now the question is, how to woe Alicia into staying and becoming his mate and queen? How will she react to his horribly disfigured face? And with tensions on the line, old rivalries resurface, and a new enemy that threatens a huge betrayal to the pack and threat to Alicia's life, how will it all turn out?

Go to my blog for the review and pics of Alicia and Gavin: http://kawehisbookblog.blogspot.com/2...

My thoughts:

HOLY SH*T can't even comprise of what I'm thinking after I finished reading "The Loneliest Alpha."

Normally even though I may be a fan of a writer or some of their previous works there's normally a book or two that will fall short for me. Well, not "The Loneliest Alpha!" I swear, T.A. Grey knows how to write some addictive story lines with new and refreshing characters. I was literally turning the pages at a rapid pace because I was so engulfed and captivated by what was going to happen next in the story.

I liked how this series tied into Ms. Grey's previous series on Lykaens, The Kategans. It was a nice touch and I really appreciated it since that is my all time favorite book series from Ms. Grey thus far.

Everything from the plot and characters in this story to the placing were flat out amazing and just right which is NOT OFTEN for me. There was never a time where I got frustrated with unnecessary plot gimmicks, character issues/personalities, or even problems with the pacing being too fast or slow so I really commend Ms. Grey on that.

My heart really broke for Gavin after he learned some hard truths within his own pack. He already suffers major esteem issues from his appearance, personality (which I found funny since he's so much like me except for the alpha/dominating trait! lol), interaction with women, and his public dishonoring of his youngest brother in the alpha dual (which he of course won). Then he had to encounter a MAJOR betrayal by someone who he trusted wholeheartedly? I wouldn't have known what to do in his shoes. Some of the events I could predict but this one was heartbreaking.

Trust me guys. This is a WORTH READ. Gavin and Alicia's relationship was so plausible and complimentary to each other that I could see how they could "work" together as a couple. I also found it so endearing that Gavin really wanted Alicia to come around on her own terms to want to mate with him and fall in love with him for him (scars and all).

"What if you’re the one?”
“The one what?” “The one woman who can stand to look me in the eye. The one who will give it a
chance. I need you to get to know me so you can see past my face."

And YES GUYS, there is definitely some steam factor in this book!! I often had to fan myself from the sizzling chemistry they have for one another and the "smex" scenes. *wink wink* ;)

"Don’t know if I’ve ever felt anything this good,” he said roughly.
“Wait ’till you’re inside me.

“Holy hell, I have to get inside you,” he said against her lips.

“A lot has happened... but I don’t wanna talk about that right now. I just want my mate, naked, in my arms.”

I'm now a little curious as to where Ms. Grey is going to take the next installment, Hanna and Alex's' story. I read the teaser at the end and am exhilarated. Ms. Grey you are such a tease! *sticks out tongue*

This is a Beauty and the Beast story. Alicia is a beautiful lingerie designer. Gavin is the alpha male of his pack with horrific scars on his face. He needs a mate. In order to find a mate, the alphas from other territories send him a female from their pack but the alpha from Alicia's pack sends two of them as Alicia was trying to stop them from kidnapping another female.

Gavin is ashamed of the way he looks and wants someone who can look past his face and love the man he is. Alicia is scared and confused by all of this and just wants to see the man who keeps to the shadows with the intriguing voice. After a failed escape attempt, she agrees to stay with him for a month to get to know him. The more he gets to know her, the more he is conviced that she is his.

"The one what?"

"The one woman who can stand to look me in the eye. The one who will give it a chance. I need you to get to know me so you can see past my face. Give me a month," he said in that scratchy voice.

Once Alicia finally sees his face, she isn't repulsed as he feared she would be. The chemistry between them is off the charts!

"You ask an awful lot of questions for someone who's been bad."

"Sometimes a bad girl needs a firm hand."

Spanking?

There are many things happening in his pack that are intefering with their time, murders, poisoning........

Will they both be safe?

This was a good read, it moved a little slow for me in spots but overall I did enjoy it.

3.5 STARS... never know whether round that up or down...

This was a sort of re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. He is scarred on his face. She is beautiful – can she overcome his looks and fall for the sweet, tortured man beneath the surface.

I enjoyed this book. Thought it could have finished up a bit earlier than it did – the last part sort of dragged a bit for me.

Was it believable – probably not but then again it is FICTION…

One thing I would say is that this author is doing herself a bit of a dis-service by labeling this as Paranormal – I did not think it was. I don’t usually read PNR but Ingela told me that this was not VERY PNR and she was right. It could have been a contemporary romance labelling. Did not really get the back story of Hanna – maybe a lead up to the next book. Overall, an enjoyable read.

The plot is simple, Alicia has been forcibly sent off to be a possible mate for the MacKellan Alpha. Think of the Bachelor, only werewolf style and you didn't opt in + you don't get to see the bachelor's face. Gavin, the bachelor, is horribly scarred on the face and needs a mate, but it's kind of hard to get a date when women are horrified by your face, hence his dating style of not showing his face. Alicia and her escape antics catch his attention and he sends all the other girls home. He makes a deal with Alicia that they'll try this blind dating out for a month and then he'll reveal his face.

While all this romance is going on, the pack is dealing with finding a murderer. Two teens were murdered and they have a suspect, but no proof. This also puts Alicia in danger.

The relationship between Alicia and Gavin is sweet, as they're both really trying in their own ways. I liked Gavin, he was sweet. And Alicia's antics were amusing. Hannah, Gavin's sister also has a POV and the beginning of her story takes up a few chapters. Her story continues in the next book in this series. In all, I think I enjoyed this book more than the vampire series by this author, but I had really low expectations and I like scarred heroes. I wouldn't reread this, but it was sweet and smutty and I liked the extra whodunit plot. The end.

This whole book confuses me. I love paranormal and lykae pack is one of my favorite. Unfortunately I didn't get this book. This book holds too many different threads from any paranormal books I've read.

First, the alpha of the pack. Being an alpha of the pack means absolute dominant. I know the title is The Loneliest Alpha but I can't get along with the absence of dominance and insecurity of our hero in this book. I can't get connected with him as an alpha of the pack since he couldn't get his lieutenant to follow his order and. His pack is the most fragile pack I've ever read.

Second, the mating thing. Mating is pairing with the opposite sex in the force of nature. It involves the animal instinct in them so powerful that losing mate sometimes means losing the life itself (otherwise what is the difference of mating in pnr with pairing as human). It is something sacred among them. Mates don't cheat each other and NO alpha ever leaves his mate.

Apart from those two things, I didn't get the chemistry between our hero and heroine here. There are scenes I found a bit weird.

What I found really confusing is the beauty and the beast theme here. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind an ugly hero. He doesn't have to be beautiful and all and I still can love him just the same as any God-featured-like heroes. It was told that our hero got himself scars really ugly only 3,5 months before but I felt he had his insecurities long before his scars.

“All anyone had to do was look at his two exes to see the truth in that. The first, Jana, everyone said was too plain, to straight-hipped and skinny, but Gavin had liked her just fine. They’d stayed together for a few years before she tired of him and moved on. As all his exes did.”

On the other hand Gavin got really angry when Alicia found his secret box with his photograph before the scars.

“Tell me, sweetheart, are you happy now? Now you will always know what I had been and wish for that. You’ll always look at me with pity and think ‘damn shame what happened to him, he used to be fine.’ Now what do I get from you but this disgust and this pity as you compare me to my former self.”

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I. Don't. Get. It!

If he was handsome before he should find himself NOT plain women, and then when he got scars after, comes those insecurities.

“He closed his eyes and thought back to when the last time was he had a woman sleeping his bed. Had to be Jane. Damn, how long ago was that? Six years?”

To be honest, the writing is not so bad but since I missed the biggest point I couldn't find anything interesting in this book.

The most interesting part is buddy reading this book with Lelyana, Dhini, and Funzee. ♥ ♥

Whoohhoo...I loved the book T.A. Grey wrote and definitely in love with Gavin MacKellen!Swooooon!!!

Winning an alpha fight over Marcus, Gavin MacKellen need a mate. And he wanted Alicia Clarkson for his mate.
But he's got a problem. He 's got a face of a beast, broken ugly face after the fight.
He didn't want Alicia hate him for his face, so he tried to woo her without showing his face. He's hiding his face under his hat, shadow and door between them.

I loved the chemistry between them, and how the author built the character. I can feel how's Gavin feeling, and how's Alicia's feeling about him.
And loved that Alicia is a brave woman, and really can see inside the beast.
Well it's not easy at first. And the journey , I found somehow beautiful.

Of course from the beginning, I pictured Beauty and the Beast before reading it,and curious about what will I read. I never read about Lycaen, I only read about vampires and werewolf...but this one isn't about the Lycaen thing, but the love story, so I enjoyed it a lot.

Gavin is a patient man. And when it comes to woo Alicia...well, Alicia is the one who's NOT patient.
I loved the kitchen incident ...really hot and swoon worthy....

The lovemaking is definitely HOT.HOT.HOT!

I know...I know, some of my buddies can't found the essential of paranormal and alpha things in Gavin. But I found it's me, somehow, liked the down to earth male in him.
I think gavin tried to live a normal life, he's not that strong and that Alpha.
I was like...Whaaaaat? He's an alpha for f*** sake!
But yet, I can see that the story is about finding a real love, not a macho alpha thing.

At this point, I can accept his vulnerability. He didn't meant to be an Alpha for a first place, it's his love for his baby brother and saving Will's life was his intention.
He never really "into" the Alpha thing.

But yet, i found he has a low self confidence since before the fight and what he did to protect Will, was only make him even harder being an alpha.

I can say, he's a shy guy even before his scarred face, and gotten more shy after that.

That's what I see in him.

What can I say? I have weakness for a shy guy...*sigh*

I loved it.

The end.

This wasn't a bad read. But for me, any rating or gushing over 3 stars concerning this book is overrated.

It started off really well. Quite the teaser of intrigue concerning Gavin & how this thing between he and Alicia could possibly work.

Then after chapter 4 things start to lose it's way a bit. With the intensity going out the window, too much set up for the next book concerning Gavin's sister Hanna, who I wasn't the least bit interested in, so this got on my nerves & caused the book to drag for me.
To the lacking of depth with the overall plot, & Villains.

Don't misunderstand me, this one had it's moments but they were too fleeting with the main plot & main characters. And Alicia really got on my nerves toward the end with her unreasonable actions concerning Gavin & his feelings for her safety. Alot of back & forth with her. She would say or do one thing & literally in the next paragraph she's contradicting herself.

Also the fact that they are Lycans that don't shift. This is all fine and well, but if they are suppose to be stronger & faster than the average human & could hold their own with Vampires, this needed to be shown/incorporated into the story more IMO. If I didn't know this was a book about Lycans it would have easily read as just a contemporary romance/drama with a few erotic tones. It certainly doesn't read like a PNR. You're just told that it's one.

If anything else it had it's moments & things thrown in for shock value. If you're curious I'd say it's worth a shot to take a look but don't expect to be swept away.

Solid 4 Stars!

This book is considered paranormal--which isn't my genre of choice, but don't let that deter you. It was very light on the paranormal, almost non-existent. I believe they are lykaens--which is some form of a warewolf. I will also note that I haven't read any other books by this author. I believe this is a spin-off for one of her other series' but can be read as a stand-alone.

The Loneliest Alpha is the story of Alicia and Gavin. Gavin is the alpha for the MacKellen pack. After a tragic accident left his face scarred, he looks to other "packs" for a potential mate...tired of the pity he receives from his current pack.

Alicia was a super strong heroine. She's repulsed by the idea that she's been sent to Gavin. When she arrives she's locked in a room to be questioned and considered for mate status. Gavin chooses to remain hidden--hoping he can find a mate that will fall in love with his personality and not be turned-off by his disfigurement.

"What if you’re the one?”
“The one what?”
“The one woman who can stand to look me in the eye. The one who will give it a chance. I need you to get to know me so you can see past my face."

My heart really broke for Gavin. He was so sweet. Alicia agrees to stay with Gavin for a month and get to know him. At which point she can decide whether she wants to be Gavin's mate. So Gavin and Alicia slowly get to know each other. It was a slow build between Gavin and Alicia which I liked....lots of sexual tension and chemistry. And once they got together it was HOT! In the shower hot, at the kitchen table hot, in the bedroom hot.

There was a bit of mystery involved in the storyline as well, which was a plus. Two children are murdered and some threats and attacks take place against Alicia and Gavin. That intrigue kept the story flowing and not just about sex. Overall, this was a really good read. It had a strong hero and heroine, some great banter and HOT sex.

I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series--about Alex and Hanna (Gavin's sister).

Ok, first I just want to say this will be a quickie review since I am currently out of town and am short on time on this borrowed computer! :D

I found this book through my news feed one day when a friend liked another GR members' review. I checked out said review and it was great and this book promptly started screaming at me! I was in the middle of another book that was going downhill and fast and was in desperate need of a quick pick-me-up. So I quickly got this book and devoured it! I mean, I started it late in the evening and was up till almost 6 am. Then once I was allowed more reading time (my kids can be demanding ;) ) I finished as fast as I could!

I freaking loved this book! This is my first from this author and let me just say, I am going to dive right in to all her other books! I was captivated from page one. The story grabbed all my attention and never let go! Just how I like my books! :) I was so heartbroken for Gavin and was so anxious to learn what happened to him. I was wanting Alicia to fall in love with him and help him heal his emotional wounds so bad and when it happened I was elated! The supporting characters of Gavin's family were great too! I really liked Jo and hope his book will come out soon; I also can't wait to read about Hanna!

When the 'big bad secret' came out, I have to admit I wasn't too shocked. I saw a few signs along the way but I didn't get any strong suspicions til a little bit before the big reveal, which I think Grey did very well on!

The smexin scenes were pretty grade-a smokin hot and just how I like 'em too! ;) This will definitely be an auto read series for me! I really can't wait for more! Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go devour more of her books!! :-)

This was so good! I really liked it not just for the great story and sexiness of the alpha, Gavin and his lieutenant, Alex, but for the sweetness of the female characters as well. The heroine Alicia was strong and intelligent but vulnerable enough to be believable. I really liked her.

Gavin was the essential alpha of the pack and despite being the leader he had a very endearing and vulnerable side as well. Disfigurement and lonliness have dictated his life as of recent but I loved seeing how it didn't make him bitter or an asshole. His persona actually reminded me of Kristen Ashley's alpha males, but not as limited in vocabulary, lol.

Great suspense mixed in with some seriously scorching sexy time made this a winner! Really liked it.
I'm actually very excited about Hanna's ( Gavin's gilted sister ) and Alex's story. We got some chapters devoted to the development of a possible relationship between them but it was more setting the stage. Hanna is married, mated rather, and her marriage has been heading south for some time due to her dead beat cheater of a husband. Alex appears on the scene and despite her attempts to see her marriage succeed, she can't deny her attraction to the resident badboy.

And because this book only forged the path for Hanna and Alex, it isn't spoiling anything to say Hanna's marriage basically disintegrates and she makes a decision, hence the next book! so excited for that one.

Great start to an exciting series, wonderful!

I liked it

Usually I don't read paranormal romance, unless it has a good story line.

The story was about Gavin, the new Alpha who was looking for a mate.
He had to choose one of several women who delivered to him.
That was when he met with Alicia.

There was some insta-love here. But both of the main characters had issues about trust.

But what I didn't get was his lack of self confidence. And if his woman couldn't accept for who he is, then he shouldn't beg her to stay.

I could not see the paranormal part here other than they could recover quickly and they fought like a monster.

I liked the writing, but I missed the sparkle.

Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney movie growing up and I still watch it occasionally. I love most of the remakes and am obsessed with the new Emma Watson version so when browsing for another shifter romance, I couldn't not not click on The Loneliest Alpha. It has a sassy beauty who would react like any normal girl who gets packed up and held against her will and a growly big ol' softy beast who just needs love and acceptance.

Both Alicia and Gavin has some crazy hot chemistry burning between them and they were sweet once they got over the whole fighting their instant connection thing. There were the usual bumps on the road to their HEA but the love story was cute and I loved the side characters, Kaity, Hart, especially Jo, because there is just something about the antagonistic rough around the edges bad boy jerk face that really gets to me :) I'm torn about Alex and Hanna's story. I kind of lost respect for her with the whole taking back the cheating ex. It seems like there might be too much drama and angst before Alex finally gets the girl and his HEA.

So I'll check the reviews before jumping on book two, I hope the rest of the MacKellen's get their stories told soon!

For those of us that read Paranormal books, and have a leaning towards the lycan themed books, we probably have seen /read many of the plots before. Authors are creative folks, they can create their characters and worlds anyway they want, and its up to the reader to adopt the premises or not.

I want to applaud T.A Grey for putting a spin on the werewolf/shape shifter lycan genre in her first in series book The Loneliest Alpha (The MacKellen Alphas #1). The Lykaen's in this book don’t shift, when I read that – I thought “OK…this is different” and to my surprise it worked out great, in fact I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, and discovering other differences in this world.

When the book started I didn't like Gavin, the pack alpha, he came off arrogant and insensitive to Alicia’s feelings and the situation she had been brought into. As the story progressed, I came to love him, he was a wounded warrior. He used his alpha behavior, gruff actions, lack of trust and evasive behavior to hide his pain, embarrassment, and rejection from women and other pack members.

Alicia on the other hand, was an outgoing, mouthy, feisty, curious, creative, strong woman. She had the capacity to turn a blind eye, or thought to things she couldn't change, and to Gavin’s outrageous attitude and behavior. She was willing to work with what she had. I loved how she wouldn't just accept Gavin’s directives, she would challenge him, and egg him on – at times even force him to look at a situation with different eyes.

The chemistry and connection between Gavin and Alicia was like a pot of water turned on high – it starts slowly, comes to a simmer and once it moves to boiling – look out! The sexual tension between the two was palpable, but Gavin always assumed the worst was going to happen between them. The two had a real push – pull relationship, the pain from past hurt for both of them, didn't make this an easy relationship.

The supporting cast was well written, and many had parallel story lines going on, involving other pack members, that I’m sure will move in to future books in the series.

There were other differences in this pack environment that jumped out at me.
• A mated couples can separate, seek a separation decree from the Justicars (the vampire & lykaen authorities)
• The pack seemed to be in a chaotic state, I was surprised by the lack of respect for their alpha
• A different mating ritual

I enjoyed this book for it’s new lykaen’s, the humor, the way emotions were expressed and felt by the reader, the action, the sex scenes, and the dirty talk. I found that all of the issues brought up in the story were resolved, and was happy that there was no cliff hanger. With the exception of introducing the reader to the characters this is a stand alone book.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author, even though I have several of her other books in my TBR pile. This book was a recommendation by one of my friends in Gotta Have Romance with a Kick group, and I’m glad I paid attention to it.

For me this was 4 star read

“I don’t want you to see my face ‘cause I’m an ugly son of a bitch and you’re too pretty to be lookin’ at that.”
Beauty and the Beast move over there’s a new couple in town. Meet Gavin and Alicia.
T.A.Grey has a habit of making you fall in love with her leading men and Gavin may not be your typical handsome hero but by god I dare you not to feel anything for this Alpha male.
What would you do if you were kidnapped, blind folded and tied up?
Well you would fight to get out, beg to be let go to go home, and agree to get to know your kidnapper and then fall in love with him. This is what happens to Alicia and I loved every damn word, sentence, paragraph and chapter of this story.
You don’t have a weak female character in this story. Hell no.. Alicia is strong and that comes through with the way she stands up for herself to Gavin and his family. I loved all the sneaky ways she tries to get a look at Gavin’s face she even surprises him at one point by jumping him. I mean come on if someone hides their face from you, you will try and find ways to get a look.
Oh Gavin you can’t help but feel for this man all he wants is for Alicia to get to know him for him and if that means blindfolding her then that’s what he will do. T.A did a brilliant job of writing all Gavin’s emotions you feel all of them along with him. When Gavin finally lets Alicia see him all of him it’s done in anger and yes Alicia does react badly and this hurts Gavin as it’s the one thing he is scared of .But Alicia proves her worth and Gavin wrong and doesn’t run away screaming like he feared.
T.A is known for her hotness when it comes to her sex scenes and this book delivers big time. But there wasn’t a lot of sex in this book, I didn’t think it needed any more than it had because the story came through a lot more and actually the suspense had you on the edge of your seat.
I really enjoyed the suspense in this book as you really hate the baddy Marcus he is just a smug so and so and is out to make Gavin’s life hell. But there are a few surprises for Gavin and his family which puts Alicia in danger because the real baddy is closer to home then he thinks.
I loved the side characters .Jo comes to mind straight away he comes over as the hard type but I bet is a softy at heart. I’ve paired him off with someone from a certain scene in the bar and I hope T.A writes a story about him so I can see if I was right.
We also get to know a bit about Gavin’s sisters Kaity and Hanna. We get to learn more about Hanna as it is one of the back stories going on through the book and her story continues in book two.
I loved, loved the ending well I loved the whole book.
Once again T.A has started off this awesome series with a great story and characters you will grow to love. And I can’t wait to learn more about the MacKellen’s.

Loved this book, the first in a series...just think beauty and the beast. I enjoyed the storyline, it made sense, it was fast pace without being ridiculous, The hero/heroine had chemistry and the secondary characters who really stood out as individuals and not faceless people to push the story along.

Story of a Lycan alpha (Gavin) who recently came to power and has been disfigured and is unable to find a mate because of his looks. He asks the other packs to send him a female that he can interview and get to know. He then intends to send them back home. All the while he knows inside he will never find a woman to look past his hideous face. Alisha is a free spirit in the Arizona pack who intervenes on behalf of a shy Sarah who is being taken by the pack's lieutenants with the intent on sending her to Gavin. She get's chosen to go as well and is a spitfire full of anger, frustration and fear as she arrives blindfolded and in a dark room to be interviewed.

That is how it starts and at first I thought, ehhhh a little hokey here but that is where the story took off. There are murders happening, old grudges that get resurrected and in the middle of all this Alisha is doing her best to get away....while Gavin stays hidden from her. Long story short: she starts to feel something for him and he for her. But he is frightened what she will do when she sees his face. And someone is looking to do Alisha in to get revenge from Gavin, who ever that is, is close to him and knows his growing feelings for his possible future mate.

If there is anything I missed it was the weaving in to the story of the Lycan behavior and physical differences from human beings. This could have been a regular human male/female story the way it was written. But that is a small thing and more importantly the story is really good and the pace is nice. No falling instantly in love with someone or after having sex once in this book. This heroine is funny, natural, feisty and not afraid to fight. She questions what she feels for him. Is it pity or the beginning of something solid and deep? Great Story, well written, first I've read of this author, can't wait for the next book in this series....she set it up nicely in book 1 with a budding, sexy romance.

I'm not so sure about this one. I liked it, but there were parts i didn't like. Although paranormal themed, it had minimal paranormal elements and more romance. Infused with a murder mystery and family drama this was a short read for a lazy day.

Gavin McKellar, an alpha lykaen is searching for a mate to complete his rule on his pack. He's looking for a strong minded, confident mate whom he does not necessarily have to love. Sadly, this alpha is not your typical gorgeous man, but, a scarred one- literally that is. He was attacked and half his face was destroyed. Hence, he requests other alpha packs to send in a few of their women for him to choose. Enter, Alicia Clarkson- a sassy, confident, beautiful woman with her own lingerie line. She's reluctantly brought to Gavin's place as she tries to save her young pack member from being hauled to Gavin's pack. Blindfolded, tied up and then kept in the dark, Alicia becomes more curious about the shy alpha who charms her while hiding in the shadows. Without ever seeing his face, Alicia learns about Gavin's true character and starts developing feelings for him. The sex scenes were hot and i enjoyed reading Gavin's POV in the book.

Gavin was a great alpha. Although understandably shy and upset about his face, he remained confident and took care of his pack well. I loved that his feelings for Alicia were based on her character and not just her beautiful face. He made his decision quickly after realising how much he liked Alicia. Alicia on the other hand, now she's the one i'm a bit confused about- i would describe her as sassy, confident and funny, yet i found her quite dramatic. She refused to acknowledge her feelings for Gavin and was never understanding of his role, hence the story had some unnecessary drama.

There was also a side story about Gavin's sister, Hanna which i didn't quite like. Her story took up almost 30% of the book. I know her story is the next one in the series but i got majorly distracted by it. It played no role in the current story. There were also murders of 2 children(??) for the alpha to solve(that was SO disturbing!) and that violent scene at the end when Gavin confronts the killers.. urrgghh! That was nasty!

So overall, I'm still having mixed feelings- its definitely worth your time, but the story and heroine may frustrate the reader at times.

This book dragged like crazy. I was basically interested and then not. I really need much more couple time and less avoidance. Also, the villain was awful as was what happened to the hero in a way that never made sense to me.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A TRULY GREAT READ!

wow, T.A. really handed me my heart with this one! such a great book. it is not often that a book can make me cry, and i bawled like a baby reading this book.
great book 1 in a new series, and so many more characters to drool over until we get their stories.
GAVIN, wow, gavin. i'm almost speechless when it comes to him and his story. i don't think any of the characters t.a. has given us before, touched my heart the way he did, and that is saying alot, because i am a huge fan of t.a. and her many men ;)
such a great story that absolutely had me at page 1 until the very end, this was one i absolutely could not put down, and read all in one sitting because i just had to know what happens.
there are a few mentions of some of the kategan characters, BUT you don't have to have read that series to fall in line with this one, although, i highly recommend them, because they are awesome books ;)

I TRULY FEEL BEYOND LUCKY THAT I GOT TO BETA THIS STORY FOR T.A., AND THAT I HAVE IT LOCKED AWAY IN MY HEART, REALLY AND TRULY LOVE IT!

When I read the immortal after dark series, I constantly checked out author's PNR dictionary just to know what is what and who is who. Relax...this book is a nice contemporary romance with little presence of PNR element.

What does it offer?
No lycan shifting or mating ceremony of "You Are Mine!" under the thundering strike.
A scarred hero is loyal, kind, and vulnerable.
A heroine is not whiny.
Drama that make sense
Great dialogue and strong supporting characters
Very well-paced plot lines

One miss :
Why does Gavin believe Alicia is the one?? I need a strong Lycan style connection!

Overall, if you have little interest in PNR and want to read a good love story, this book is a good pick.

#very steamy # stand alone # love story # suspense # no roll my eyes moments

I really liked this one. Very original. Loved the h and H. I normally don’t like books that are too long but even with the higher page count I never felt it drug out and I never lost interest. I was able to tell who the bad guys were by halfway through the book.

My reason for 4 ⭐️ instead of 5 is because
1. The writing was a little bit tough sometimes. I found myself having to reread sentences/paragraphs because of the way it was worded. So some places could/should have been worded better.
And 2. He sends her away “for her own safety” at the end. Rather cruelly and without any warning whatsoever. She was CRUSHED. Yet when he comes for her she LITERALLY jumps into his arms like he hasn’t shattered her. Like not even an apology. Literally NO APOLOGY and shes screwing him. And he sends her away to protect her but he also wants her as his mate and Luna who he wants to stand beside him. He can’t have it both ways. Either he wants her beside him to fight together or he wants to hide her away any time he’s worried about her. What happens next time something happens? Is he just going to send her away and hurt her every time? Also no epilogue. Sucky.

I did skim the few chapters from his sister Hanna’s POV because she is super duper pathetic. Like really pathetic. And a doormat. 🙄🙄

Safe. She has been celibate 6 months. He hasn’t been in a relationship in 6 years but that didn’t clarify celibacy. But for sure 4 months since his face was scarred.

Would definitely read this author again. But not Hanna’s book 🤣

Edit: sad day. None of her other books are safe. Will not be reading any other books by her.

A beauty and the beast story with two flawed characters who find something worth fighting for in each other. I enjoyed it.

I'm definitely interested in reading the next book in the series with Alex and Hanna.

“Why won’t you let me see your face?”
“I don’t want you to see my face ’cause I’m an ugly son of a bitch and you’re too pretty to be lookin’ at that.”

Once upon a time, there was a man name, Gavin.

Winning “the new alpha” for the pack by defeating – what was his rival name ? Marlon ? Marc? Michael ? Oh, well… - Marcus ? - and soon he must looking for woman who wants to be his mate, to be the “queen” for his new pack.
But with scary scars on is face ?
Will there be a woman who willing to be his mate ?

Then, one day he met Alicia, one of some women brought to him from others pack.
Alicia is a brave woman, and that’s why Gavin fallin for her at first sight !
But the problem is, will Alicia want to be his mate ?

And then the story begins…

Actually, I have BIG expectation about this book, really BIG !
With that “Beauty and the Beast” kinda story, well…I think its gonna be “something”…

Half first of the book – I admit – is “interesting”, BUT second half of the book, well…uhm…yeah…just…like “that”

With those lykaens, alpha, pack and vampires things ?

Hell-O ??
This is supposed to be “the paranormal” genre, right ?

But, I just didn’t get any of that things I usually found in any other supernatural-paranormal-romance stories I ever read.
I can’t even feel the “supernatural” things in here…
Well, except for “the healing” part, but even “the pack healer” seems more “human like” than supposed to be.

It’s feels like reading any other contemporary romance, then you add – read : mention – those pack – vampire and so on – things and…. - voila ! - We get “paranormal story” – with not much “paranormal” things in it !

Gavin’s didn’t fulfill my expectation. I know, he have self confidence issue after his face brutally ruin after “The Alpha duel night”, but don’t be too over lah…
For an “alpha”, he’s too “weak”, too “human”, too…”stupid” ??

Hell yeah !!! Like Monika’s said, he is “Insecure / unconfident Alpha” !
I think, even Jacob is younger, but he more suit those “alpha” things rather than Gavin’s.

description

Oh, and the “mating” in here seem too ridiculous, the cheating between mates seems weird for me…
Mating things supposed to be “serious” and “sacred”… - where the hell – “You are my one and only till death do us part” - things anyway - well, except for Gavin’s and Alicia’s of course…

Aside, am feel Hannah – Gavin’s sister - lil bit too “stupid” too, is that “stupid’ behavior runs on MacKellen’s clan anyway ?
And Will ???
Arrrrgh !!!!!!!
I hope Hart and Jo not include…

At 50% reading, I’ve decided how many stars will I give for this book, cuz I do like Gavin and Alicia, but…when what I’ve been waiting for from the beginning didn’t fulfill my expectations at the end… I deduct my stars from 3 to 2.5…

So ? Sorry…this book didn’t work for me… ;)

BUT…am lil bit curious bout this “the Justicars” vampire name “Brayden” anyway…

Wanna know more about him and his mate – Vanessa…

oh, and Alex had successfully stolen my attention too…
Hope their story gonna be much better than this one…

Buddy read with these beautiful ladies - Lelyana, Monika and Dhini.

I'm a bit conflicted with my rating for this. I'm an absolutely sucker for Beauty and the Beast storyline, therefore during the first half of the book when the hero tried to hide his face from the heroine and dealing with his insecurities, I was totally sold. It was really that good, the kind that my lady parts tingle and warm. But during the second half, after everything was lay on the table, the story started to lose a bit of steam.

description

Alicia, a lingerie designer was kidnap by her own Pack to be deliver to Gavin, the Alpha of Oregon to be his mate. For once, we have a heroine that doesn't kickass and is kind of refreshing in a way. Though she did had a bold and no-nonsense attitude in dealing with the mysteries Gavin. The man who hide his face from her. I was speechless during her many attempts to steal a glance at the man.

Gavin had lost his confident in dealing with women after being disfigured during the night he became the alpha. When Alicia was brought to him, he knew he wanted her. The way he tried to befriend her and get to know her without revealing his face makes me felt all mushy inside. Who knew a shy guy can turn me on.

After a failed attempt at escaping, Alicia and Gavin strike up a deal for her to stay for one month to allow them to get to know each other better. After that she can decide either to stay to mate with him or go back to her Pack. Soon Alicia learned to see the man hidden behind his scarred face.

The romance department was very well done, the slow burning and yearning, the sexual tension in the beginning. At the same time, we have a mystery subplot of dead children, the truth behind Gavin's disfigurement and Alicia's constant accident. However, I find this subplot was kind of weak and I don't feel invested in the mystery. Mostly because the investigation work was done by Hart, Gavin's brother, instead of Gavin himself.

Although it is label as paranormal/shapeshifter, this book felt contemporary to me. First of all Alicia is a lingerie designer and Gavin had some sort of construction business. It seems like everyone in the Pack had a day job. Second of all, there isn't any mentioned of them shifting, even during the end battle.

Another thing that felt out of place is Hannah, Gavin's sister POV. There was mentioned of her issue with her scum of a husband, Tom and the ensuing romance with Alex Thompson. Hannah's POV just didn't connect with the grand scheme of things that was happening between Gavin and Alicia. I can see that T. A. Grey is trying to tease us with Hannah's story for the next book. However, I felt that these information should be told from either Gavin's or Alicia's POV instead.

Overall I still feel that this is a pretty good read for the romance itself. Especially those who loves Beauty and the Beast kind of storyline. Both hero and heroine are likable characters. We also get to know the rest of the MacKellen clan that each had their own unique personality. I had a little crush on the grumpy Jo and can't wait to read his story.

I read this as a BOM read with my reading group, and had seen it had such a fan club of reviews so was very positive and looking forward to reading this. It was a long read, and thankfully a free read, which was probably intended as the intro freebie to T.A. Grey's series.
If Ms Gray thought it would entice readers then it won't me, plainly based on error ratio, it drove me nuts, and spoilt what could have been a reasonable read.

The story, is unusual as not werewolf, but Lykeans and have pack instincts, Alphas and so on but no physical changes. An unusual paranormal, where they have their own justice system outside of the rest of the society they live within. Can't see that working somehow but I won't pick bones over that.

On the positives, a variant of Beauty and Beast theme which is enjoyed by many.

At times I liked the characters and others they didn't come across as quite right...and I think it was the chemistry, which seemed a little off, but they aren't humans after all;)

On BDSM, I think the fact of natural Alpha dominant is there but its more than any intention to elicit any sexual response for any of the elements of Bondage, Discipline, Sadism or Masochism, it is so borderline I would prefer to classify it as erotica with elements of bondage. So not BDSM as I had seen claimed.

Notable content: the feather design of Alicia's lingerie product for her budding designer business... I could imagine it looking cute and sexy, itching and tickling like hell to when moving, totally impractical for wearing use, and just sitting down it would damage the feathers. So nice idea for posing and removing, but nothing else. Plus, feathers need washing of mites...just crossing my mind hehe...as the itch builds!

The one thing that gave this story a saving grace and why I have put it at border three star not border two is one thing only, I loved the way TA Grey shows that people can get beyond the physical, but sadly in real life often don't. The person beneath the scars, Gavin is male, t'would have been far worse if it had been role reversal here. It isn't often that people give someone with disfigurement or severe disabilities the time to get to know them...the person, the personality and character, and see the kind, caring soul beneath that Gavin is, despite his control as pack Alpha. It does happen occasionally, but there's a lot of people in Gavin's position where the Alicia's of the world are missing. Or if female for that matter if role reversal. This saddens me, we spend far too much importance on the visual and far less on the beauty of the personality beneath the skin. That in itself was worth the third star.

So why no more?
Virtually every page has a booboo, typo, error call it what you will and supposedly was edited. And yet, of the many, many reviews none mentioned the errors. Most self published books I've read have been better than this. Ms.Grey, this lets your book down badly, sorry. Borderline 3 stars from me.

I just wasn't feeling anything in this book.
This was basically no shifter element except from the word 'pack' being used until the veryyy end of the book. The romance felt dead and I skimmed the sex scenes. I SKIMMED a sex scene. Yup. Gavin lacked confidence, which is a characteristic I really value in a man, so I found myself rolling my eyes a lot when Alicia and he interacted, or when I got to read his inner thoughts. Alicia.... Meh. It got a star bump at the end for semi-surprising me about who was behind trying to hurt Alicia.

This book had a beauty and the beast theme (which I love) with werewolves.

The hero was really insecure about his scarred face and talked to the heroine through doors and blindfolded her, etc. so she couldn't see his face. It was pretty entertaining.

Heroine insisted they couldn't move forward without her seeing his face and kept coming up with plans to see it without his permission.

Negatives: When I read a book about "mates" I know that there is only one mate for each werewolf and there is no cheating, because they've found their mate. Not in this book. Here, mates can cheat on each other and there is no one perfect mate.

The last thing I want when I'm reading a werewolf mate book, is cheating on your mate. It really pissed me off and ruined my enjoyment of the book. (The cheating was a secondary couple, not the main couple but still pissed me off)

Another negative: The werewolves don't have an animal shape. They just kinda get stronger and smell better when they go into their other self. Weird.

I liked the author's writing and will try more books of hers in the future.

Give this book a try if you are in the mood for a good beauty and the beast themed book.

WOW! What a way to start a spin off series. This book takes place after the last book of the Kategan Alphas and its with the pack that Vanessa Kategan was mated into. There's a new alpha and he's looking for a mate. This is a classic story of seeing someone for what's inside and not for how someone looks. I loved every moment and its one that I would definitely reread. I also loved how we were introduced to members of the pack and I'm already dying for their stories especially Hanna and Alex, she need to be shown how a real man treats a woman and Alex is just that man.

I love a good werewolf shifter romance and this one is pretty good. I enjoyed the characters and while it was fairly predictable, I didn't mind. Why mess with greatness? I look forward to reading more from Grey.
