Long before Angelina Jolie made headlines with news of her double mastectomy and other surgeries related to her genetic mutation for Breast & Ovarian Cancer, Lisa Jey Davis was heralding the cry for at-risk women everywhere to be screened for the BRCA genes. She'd undergone similar procedures just two years prior and had appeared on The Doctors television show talking ...more

I just spent the last hour or so eating up the first 73 pages of "Getting Over Your Ovaries," which I was fortunate to get a sneak peek of. Being on the cusp of "Orchids" myself (what Lisa calls "the change" since menopause is such an ugly sounding word), I was eager to learn about Lisa's experience, especially since I'm fairly ignorant about what's to come. Now, I feel a bit more prepared (YIKES!). Lisa's candidness and wit had me simultaneously giggling and on the verge of tears. Only she ...more

'Getting Over your Ovaries: How to Make the Change of Life Your Bitch' is informative, inspiring and entirely hilariousI grinned, I giggled and then I laughed out loud. Written by an über talented, healthy, insanely busy, sexy author, fitness instructor and publicist in an entertaining and practical style, the book is entirely relevant for every woman expecting "orchids" AKA the change of life (and those expecting menopause in the next decade or so).

Terrified by the idea of this future flower

Lisa Jey Davis has created a mandatory read for every woman over 40, and I dare say, required reading for every medical doctor on planet earth. A rare gem of knowledge to prepare every female for the facts about what will eventually happen to you as your hormones change with aging. Lisa clearly outlines these specific affects on your mind, body and spirit they never told you about in school or mainstream media, and how you can turn the tide of each in your favor. Filled with brutal truth and ...more

Lisa Jey Davis is my hero! How I wish I would have had this book when I was going through all of the weird, wild, whacky stuff that she cleverly describes as the "orchid phase (menopause)." Lisa's gritty optimism, practical wisdom and juicy wit all combine to make it a MUST READ if you are a woman living and breathing on planet earth. Buy this book and learn to step into your own flowering orchid with some grace, grit, and attitude!

I have now read the book and I thought it was wonderful, so useful and superbly written with a real 'can do' attitude which is very helpful and inspiring. It's great there is all this info for teens concerning bodily and emotional changes during puberty but why should menopause remain such a mystery??? The process is clouded in a veil of secrecy which is ludicrous, all female creatures go through it should we be blessed to live that long! I didn't realise how badly my emotions and coping ...more

I am SO getting a copy of this when I can find one. We've all heard the hushed tones over the years coming from older ladies explaining a woman of a certain age's personal issues, appearance or behaviour as "she is going through the change" which casts an air of frightening mystery over what will happen to all females eventually. It's hard to find practical advice in what to do to prevent, protect or deal with various menopausal and age related changes if possible, now FINALLY here is a book ...more

“I call the Change of Life "Orchids" because menopause is such an ugly word. It's got men in it for goddsakes.” 8 likes
“When I was suddenly thrust into what everyone calls menopause (Orchids) earlier than my body planned, I decided someone needed to take charge on so many levels. It was time to not only change the vernacular, but to speak up and say "Hey! This isn't an old lady's disease! We aren't old! We are strong and dammit, we are beautiful and sexy too!” 4 likes
