I am not sure that I would consider this book a "Romance Book". I just couldn't connect with the characters of this book. First of all, it was too in depth and I wanted to put it down before the two characters even met. I must say that the author has considerable writing skills, and a writing style that most novel readers will enjoy.

What a great pleasure it was to slip into a world this author created. The characters and their emotional conflicts are so clearly defined, the relationships are wonderfully conflicted and arc satisfyingly and the vivid adventure of the escape is a nail-biter; very very scary and completely alive. I also love the way he keeps adding complications to the Longstands increasingly dysfunctional family problems. This was an OK read, but I found myself skimming large parts of it. I think it was well-written and will appeal to a certain sort of reader, maybe those who look for historical fiction more than romance. It was different enough from what I normally like to read that I just didn't fully engage. I wish I could give it a better rating because it felt like the author put his heart into it and I hope it will find its way into the hands of readers who will appreciate it.
