Lola Basyang was the pen name of Severino Reyes for the 500 short stories that he wrote for children. My review of the first volume is Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang (3 stars). I am reading the second volume because the very first short story that started the 499 others is in this volume.

There are 12 short stories included in this collection and I liked 9 (75%) of them. I found the original story, the one that started them all: "Ang Plautin ni Periking" (#2 below) just amazing.

The "PRINSESANG NAGING PULUBI" is the English version of KING GRISLY-BEARD of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Some of the stories in "Mga Kuwento Ni Lola Basyang" are the same in Grimm's Fairy Tales or Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales. I think the author translated those European fairy tales to Tagalog because Filipinos during that time were not yet fluent in English.
