Browbeat into agreeing to serve as the liaison between the Bath Hotels’ Association and the police, hotel owner Honey Driver thinks she’s merely adding a bit excitement to her pedestrian life of catering to demanding tourists and frequenting antiques auctions. Instead, in the usually quiet resort town of Bath in the southwest corner of England. Honey’s first assignment is to looking into the disappearance of an American from a down-at-heel bed and breakfast with pretensions — “A guesthouse! We’r ...more

'Something in the Blood' is not Agatha Christie. The pleasure does not come from working out whodunnit (or at least it didn’t for me). There is a mystery, and there are clues. Some are subtle while some are not. (The piece of wood with a six that may be a nine and could have come from a door post does tend to batter the reader about the head as well as the victim.) I didn't really care. About a quarter of the way through the book I realised that I wasn't going to work out who had done what to wh ...more

A very weak mystery. After a few pages you know whoddone it and you keep on reading hoping you were wrong in the beginning for the sake of not being disappointed in the end. Honey is one of the most unlikeable women I ever encountered in a book and I can't see one quality in her that justifies the interest the men in the book seem to show apart perhaps the fact that men are...well, men. I didn't like it and won't read the next books, but since i're read far worse in the past few months, I give i ...more

This book was readable, but not a page turner.

I am not quite sure where I found this one from but my note shows that I was expecting a British 'foody' detective story. The description was not quite correct for at least this series first didnt have the foody connection. That being said, it was nice to read a novel set in Bath, a place that I know.
I didnt registered the characters as well as I would have
liked although that may have been down to my own movements at the time of reading.
Perhaps of more importance was that I didnt get the princi

Unfortunately, I had to mark this one as “did not finish.” I read half the book, and then very quickly skimmed the last few chapters to find out how the mystery played out. Even when all the right elements are there – a cozy mystery, English setting, quirky heroine – sometimes a book just doesn’t work for me.

I was intrigued by the premise of an American tourist gone missing on his holiday in Bath, England, however the plot was difficult to follow and just wasn’t interesting enough to hold my att

I have received a copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads, and again I am thankful for it.

I have to say that this book, although I usually enjoy mysteries greatly, was just plainly boring. Even through I liked the heroine and her sarcastic comments from time to time, the plot was confusing, rushed and annoyingly illogical. Nothing was explained properly, for exemple how she comes to the solution at the end. As I said, the whole plot is illogical, and at the end you just stand there and

I picked up Something in the Blood, a Honey Driver Mystery, with high hopes. It is a British cozy set in Bath with a middle aged female protagonist, Honey, who works in the hospitality industry. I just couldn’t get into this one from the start, I didn’t find Honey Driver to be an appealing character. I just didn’t like her. She was very heavy handed in her search for clues and dealing with suspects. The clues were too obvious so I figured out the “reveal” relatively early on. I have had other bo ...more

I thought the plot line was good, but I really didn't care for the author's writing style at all. Also, I have a hard time believing that a police detective would be ordered by a superior to work with someone just because she's the hotels association's liason (to the point of calling her when he's going to interview a suspect, etc).

I won a copy of Something in the Blood on Goodreads. This book didn't hold my attention at all. I tried and tried to get into the story but couldn't. The mystery needed to be a lot stronger. I didn't get a whodunit feel from the book. The ending was easy to figure out. Could have been a much stronger book.

Reads like a cozy.

This is what I like to read. Funny characters. I realized at the end that all the clues were there from the beginning but I was too interested in the goings on that I didn't put them together soon enough. Will download the next one now. I think it's going to be a good one.v

This is a GREAT English cozy! Loved it so much I immediately wanted the next in the series - unfortunately, the next book is not out on Kindle yet so I have to wait.

Funny British novel. A little dry at times, but it is funny with the family dynamics and driving all over. The descriptions put one right in Bath, England.

This author is new to me and I'm really enjoying her style and her characters! I've already ordered the next 2 in the series.

Kurzweiliger Krimi mit einer sympathischen Hauptfigur. Hat noch keinen >besonders< großen Eindruck hinterlassen, aber genug, dass ich wohl mit Band 2 weitermachen werde.
